Yeah I thought that was interesting. I guess they are both open to lockdowns, but at least its something different as ctf3 has had all the play it probably deserves. I'm at least interested in seeing what happens when two really good clans fight for control in center on ctf9.

Actually no, we'll (most likely) have new overtime rules that should make things more interesting and not as drawn out.

ctf9 has no place there, terrible map for competitive play.
Barely tolerable for pub play.
CTF3 is way more entertaining then CTF9 due to layout, flow, and the fact that it can be a very fast paced game if both teams are fighting over powerups constantly.

qzctf9 could be good 4v4, or atleast better than 5v5, but I'd still be resistant to playing it. It has serious design flaws imo. Travel time from flag to midfield is way too long, allowing for easy intercepts. Coupled with that there are two choke points in base with no easy way to change between high/low - further making intercepts very easy.

Also, siberia/courtyard conundrums could do with more midfield spawns. At the moment there are too many respawners in base making them very, very defensive.

that maplist would be tolerable if each player could remove 2 maps before picking one, t9 and ca2 (and t6) are not good enough maps for competitive play, imo

what do the us player who actually played the map in competitions think about t9? it looks so boring. and adding it definitely is a disadvantage for the european players...

although im a big fan of new maps i dont think that adding ca2 is good idea. i was all for trying it out in the online duel tournaments when it was new. but the map doesnt work in duel, so why force it on the players now? or is it actualy played in the us? rather make a new map that designed for duel.

Picking maps instead of dropping them in the selection process increases the randomness factor of the tournament. It also favours one map wonder players.

Map dropping and no classics? I suppose if you had watched ESWC Athens, you would not have mentioned that. Athens had a ton of amazing matches.

Since QL duels are 10minutes they can just be played best of 5 and have picking instead of dropping.

the players might probably love the drop map rule, but from a spectator pov it sucks. Its much more interesting to see players on their best maps, I just want to see the highest level play possible. If a player is a genius on a particular map then I want to see them work their magic on that map. Also it can be extremely exciting if a player not known for being so good on a map manages to beat the map specialist

It is NOT TRUE that players don't get to play their best map in a map drop system. When someone agrees to play Jibo on ZTN, THEN you will get an exciting game. Not when Jibo picks ZTN vs. someone that doesn't want to play it.

Map drop system = more exciting games. But I guess you would actually have to have followed Quake 3 last year to know that.

I didn't speak with any admin regarding the map pool since like March when I was just checking out the maps for the first time. So I like t9 and ca2...this means [chance and] I were the main reason these maps were added?

As far as I know ID wanted to show off a ton of maps, hence the 7 map pool. Since they run the show, what they want is what they do. If these two were not added, then which ones should be?

My main focus for the Qcon this year is CTF, I don't particularly care what the duel tourney map pool is.

Edit: I'm kind of neutral on tourney9 after playing it for a bit more. It's too hard to break control, and the map geometry is too simple, however I like the additional momentum feel to the map. By any means, though, it's not a great map.

YEH so let's remove the dm maps as well, since they were made for deathmatches not tourneys.

T9 is garbage but CA2 might not be that bad and I'm interested to see how it plays (I highly doubt every game on it will be low scoring/defensive, but I'd rather see that than the boring rush fest maps like T9 offer).

tbh seriously... most ppl here should not whine and actualy play t9 and ca2 a few times. The maps are not bad.
CA2 has a very interresting and fresh kind of gameplay which tbh has a few elements in it from most other maps. It's not half as bad as most think, you can pressure the opponent from offensive and defensive possitions on the map, and one rail can turn the whole game around.
And tbh t9 is fun as hell? it's like... the replacement of hub but without the rail rape, you can pressure the opponent so much when you have control it's insane :D + the tables can turn really fast on the map.

and to all whining ****: if you can't handle a changing maplist, you're not good at quake, but you just have too much spare time.
