I guess it' person to person. I would not really care if they did not seed, random the brackets is something I would not complain about. Imagine beeing seeded amongst the lowest all the time. Then you always play toxic/rapha etc in the 1st round. How are you going to learn? :)

My personal thing is though, I usually don't care if I finish 2nd, 6th or 10th. I really want to win when I play. I guess thats why I say things like 'seeds does not matter'. I do however understand what the majority seems to believe though. That seedings should be 100% perfect so everyone gets their fair chance.

That's exactly the point though surely: seeds don't affect the person who wins, they affect the people who could place anywhere from 2nd to 6th etc depending on who they have to play and at which stage of the tournament.

I don't really think your comparison is fair...there were more good euros there than americans, and i highly doubt players like stermy, fox, spartie, k1llsen, av3k, etc didn't practice at all

Imho lets see what the future brings for the next events, hopefully some in europe and we see eg, emg, the raphas, griffins and destrukts flying over the athlantic.

For esports in a whole, this battle is counterproductive over all. We need awesome matches with great personolatitys and good sportsmanship.

I don't really think the rivalry is serious enough to have an impact on esports. These players all respect each other a lot, they don't seem to really consider nationality important as most random ESR trolls do. Many times before we have seen americans and europeans bootcamping, and players from all over the world flying to everywhere else in the world :)

I bet if the euros had a better event you'd be all like "OMG EUROPE BESTEST IN QUAKEZ!"

Too bad that emg didnt want to listen to other wishes and make this more enjoyable.(Afterall it was but could have been more)

lol about the emg trolling comment. i didn't think the interviews would come out this way, i did all of these on the same day before reading any of the previous ones, just wanted to get more information behind the whole lobbying players/seeds/structure controversy. came out the way it did, oh well.

also, i normally don't comment on any news post i do, etc, but i just wanted to comment on behalf of chance. yeah chance did say the things he did but the interviews were all done on audio. text only captures words, not tone of voice. chance is probably one of the nicest guys i know in this community.

they're ok but the point is more to do one or the other. if some emotion/joking attitude has been lost here its because of this translation. if the audio was released instead then we could detect sarcasm. if the interview was written to begin with then the player would probably include some smilies in his answer which indicates the mood

i do it for a bunch of reasons. first, i do the interview using audio because it's easier for both people involved at that exact moment in time, imo.

as for the format of the final interview, i do things based on how i'd like it. granted, i wont shy away from audio, i just primarily like to read rather than listen.

plus you have to take into consideration the fact that when you're reading you can go from place to place quicker (look for it or ctrl/cmd-f and type that bad boy in!) than if you're listening and have to click to the precise moment in time. if you don't click exactly where it is you're wasting time hearing stuff you don't want to hear.

i mean i really have a shit load of reasons for why i prefer doing it this way. if youre actually curious about why i do it this way then contact me on msn or w/e. if youre just being sarcastic then uhh do the opposite of contact me :O?

well if you choose to waste your time writing a transcript then thats your business, but the fact is if you have the audio then i see no reason why you wouldnt provide it as an option too. it'd upload to youtube & get approved long before you finish typing

I know exactly what you mean about Chance. He is a very mature player and people are a bit too rushed in judging him without knowing enough about him.

Never was one to whine, criticize yes but not really for his own good.

A bit history on chance to explain why I view the guy in this way:

He played on a 100ms connection (and this was during osp) for a very long time and duelled in that way. Not once did I see him rage or whine like others do when they lose and start blaming anything other then their own self. He put in a lot of dedication and patience in his playing and it still reflects on his behaviour today.

So yeah, thats my answer to the people whining about his supposed "ego" in this thread. Atleast base your assumptions on some facts before you go apeshit all over.

Chance is just the typical mediocre American player whose ego got hurt after getting owned several times on home soil

at least he doesn't make people wait hours & then claim press releases will be out the next day only to then release them 30 mins after the waiters go to bed `-`

I have not read the interview. But chance is a nice guy the few times I've come across to speak with him. He seems to be very genuine, with a good balance of confidence and humbleness. Hopefully he is still the same...

Considering this, many also thought the match between you and fnatic was actually the “real” finals of the tournament. What did you think about this match?

DaHaNG: I thought this match actually had the highest caliber of CTF that I had ever played and Viju, a veteran, pretty much agreed that it was one of the most intense games that I have ever been a part of. And they were at Quakecon semifinals; it was just an amazing experience. I do feel bad for fnatic. Both teams, fnatic and us, wanted double elimination. We both knew we were basically playing for first, right there in the semifinals. And, if you play double elimination, that weeds out the variation and both still legitimately have the shot at first after that game. It was an intense game, I feel bad for them, but we took it away. It wasn’t easy, but compared to the Europeans it felt like that should have been the semifinals.

My intent was to give credit to team fnatic more than anything. Based on the performance of Who Run It! throughout the tournament, it seemed clear fnatic and EG were the two best teams.

You probably don't know the rivalry between EG vs eMg for a couple months leading to quakecon, so perhaps what I said wasn't the most diplomatic :P.

looking from a spectators point of view, purely based on CTF gameplay and the strength of teams, I can't really agree on what they are saying.

I do agree that a double elimination should have been in order, I mean seriously you fly all the way over to the USA to face a single elimination tournament and getting the favourites to win it all in the semi's is kinda tough.

However stating that fnatic's CTF team is better than 'eMg' is from my PoV a flawed statement. Why? EG played fucking bad against fnatic and made huge mistakes and left so many chances open. Ironworks would have been a 4-1 for EG if they had this 'good communication' which fnatic thought they had. and CTF2 was tough on EG, because linkin is simply good enough to solo that map, because he barely misses those rocket jumps. Viju played like he was uninformed about linkin's playstyle, while EG watched fnatic's game before which also included a CTF2 game.

Then watching 'eMg' play I must really say that EG played so different and really showed the teamplay that I expected from them to have in the fnatic game as well. 2-3 man escorts, amazing tactical play, adapting to situations and clampOK being a solid force in defence. I really lacked these things in the fnatic vs EG game from EG's side. That must have been the reason why EG have found fnatic stronger and had such a close game. Therefor you can't say fnatic and EG were the best teams, because the circumstances were really different.

I think in the end it all comes down to everyone insisting on a EU - US final and with the somewhat avarage game from EG against fnatic, it looked like based on the scores it would have been a great final. I was mostly dissapointed in the lack of a potential 'rape' when having the same performance as they had in the finals against eMg.

Nice games though, just kinda dissapointed in the expected excuses that were predicted already. Impressed by link1n's play though, that it actually caused an upset against EG, eventhough they had the advantage of spectating him in their previous game.

According to EG, they played their best match ever against Fnatic and played bad vs eMg. But you know their play better than they do I see.

I expected a more intense and argumented reply, but I guess that one sentence will do just fine to try to let me look like I have no clue what I'm talking about.

Of course a CTF match is more intense with those close scores and one team playing worse than they actually can. Hell I think I would find it more exciting to play terrible against a worse team and win it in a close game, than winning 2-0 or 3-0 over a team that's the same level. Wouldn't you?

fnatic didn't LET EG get in situations where they could attack with 2 or 3 man teams, which is why you probably didn't see that during the match. Doesn't mean coordination wasn't there. It means the opposing team was smarter on defending those types of attacks and cutting it down.

I think you are missing that fnatic'S plan was to pretty much destroy the opponent at mid, relying on their superb aimers. Never letting them get into their flow.
Kinda like a catenaccio for ctf.
