Event: QNC'09

A few months ago,

Sombra was found guilty of cheating in the Euro Open Cup with proofs he provided himself. This year we had to go over this kind of situation again in the Quake Nations Cup Q3 TDM. The captain of the Russian team,

Zubich, was proved guilty of cheating in the match against the Austrian team.

The whole admin team carefully checked his demos and we are now all convinced that he was using cheats. Therefor we decided to give

Austria a default win (worth 3 points) for this match. Since the Russian players (from team fall1) also watched his demos, approved of the cheating and apologized to me, I won't penalize the Russian team but only its captain,

Zubich. He is now banned from the quakequickcup.com and quake.cz tournaments. Team Russia will remain in the Nations Cup and its new captain is now

Zhibo "Jibo" Fan.

Don't quit man, you are doing a great service to the community by holding these cups, and you are doing a great job of it. It's obvious to most that a fuckton of work goes into organising that kind of thing and kudos to you and your team for taking it on.

Expect that there is always a silent majority who enjoys following and spectating the tournaments, who appreciate what you are doing but never see a reason to inform you of that. And while you may not be noticing them, they would surely notice if the cups vanished. Keep going!

Whenever he draws out machinegun or railgun, the autoshot is obvious (try timescale 0.1).
We (me, legie and others) spent several hours watching his demos and discussing if we
we can actually prove that he used wallhack as well. We concluded uniformly that he did.
If someone has doubts, watch the demos carefully and make your own opinion.

you are right, this is autoshoot.
autoshoot is automatic shooting when crosshair is on nmy.
autoaim do lock the target only, and both can be used in the same time.

So, he used:
- autoshoot,
- wallhack.

and perhaps a timer thing, but didnt watch the demos =)

It's a sensitive issue. I don't like to see people getting stigmatized with terms like "for life" pushing them into the vicinity of convicted criminals. Abuse of power, I would say, or at least a mistake which should be corrected. An apology to the player would be a decent move too.

Why wasnt the Russian team thrown out of the tournament as well? Was this the only game he played or what? It doesnt really seem fair to me that a team affiliated with cheaters can still participate in the cup. I do realize they may not have known about it but it is still their responsibility to ensure that they do not have cheaters in their line up.

This was their first match in the cup.

The match has been forfeited and the offending player has been ejected from the tournament. I don't see why you'd want to punish people who didn't cheat, most likely didn't know about the cheating and have gained no advantage from it.

Well the decision is more understandable seeing as it is their first game. But as somebodyshootme brings up they trusted him and voted for him which makes their trust grossly misplaced. Another point being that if one player is cheating in their team whats to say that another one isnt? Or that another player knew about his cheating and didnt care or looked passed it since it benefited them? If you feel the need to cheat you are not going to win many matches in the first place so what does it matter if they forfeit one match and lose one player? From the team�s point of view they could see it as either 1. win the match ( nobody notices ) 2. A player gets caught and they forfeit a match they wouldnt have won either way. I see it as a win win situation for the team and makes it a viable tactic for bad teams to have one player cheating.

My clan once had a cheater in the lineup, and we played with him for months without noticing it ourselves. Should we all be punished for that, too? There's been cheaters in the german community, does that mean we're all cheaters because, you know, we share everything within a community? It's fine to have a discussion about the further participation of the russian team in the cup, but simply rendering the other players on the team suspects to cheating is a bit too simple minded and unfair towards them.

I understand what you are saying but I find it perfectly reasonable for everybody that stands to benefit from cheating to get called into question. You also think that you should not get punished for playing with a cheater, but do you think your opponents should rather get the punishment? Understand that I did not say that team Russia should get banned ( since there is no evidence for them to get banned ), but they should at least be thrown out of the tournament as a precaution.

Hehe, well maybe Im being to mean in my analysis :) But It�s just that it is very easy for them to say that they had no idea ( They probably didnt.. but does it even matter ? ). There should be some accountability since it is a team competition. Its just easier for everybody to have the team thrown out as it rules out any possibilities and it also sees to it that players make sure that there are no cheaters in their teams lineup.

You cant really know or make sure for certain, but the problem is there is also no way to know if they actually knew about it and consented to it ( or were even cheating them selves ). Which is why I think the team as a whole needs to be removed from the competition. It may be unfair to throw players that had no actual part in the cheating out of the tournament, but it is also unfair for other players to be subjected to playing a questionable team. As I said I realize it is unfair, but Zubich does call his teammates into question and since there is no real way to be certain of their part in his cheating they should be removed. For me it is just the way it has to be when you team up with a cheater. Not necessarily their fault, but as it is a team competition the burden should be equal among teammates.

Maybe they were not at fault but I just find it a bit ridiculous that a team can have a cheater on board without any repercussions . Few reasons when I think of it;

1- The community is small enough as it is. The admins probably thought the problem was fixed after they saw the team had no clue about him.

2- The admins werent so lenient with austria when they fielded someone from france and people in the team knew about it, guess this is a less of a offence.

3- It's the beginning of the cup, very first match. If it was any further in the tourney then I would say to hell with it and ban Russia, but for the reason in #1, it might be fine.

I'm not sure if they actually did any proper voting for the captain.

Someone applies and gets to do it, I presume if enough people complain then they would get changed. But it seems most captains have done their job fine (Organise/select the teams).

this guy apparently hadnt used a cheat for very long...he wasnt good at hiding it, at all.

theres alot of others out there that are better that get away with it though. especially on pub servers. (crom being one of them...and no i dont care who any of you know, they cheat on those servers..the admins know it and do nothing to stop it. ive taken so many demos of cheats on the crom servers its just pathetic...even the crom members using alt names)

gj catching one of the obvious cheaters though. just wish more people would open their eyes to the rest of them so people like me can play in peace.
