Its generally good to bring back some attention to Q3 world, where users not limited to baseq3 - so many mods can surf this wave ;-)

Would be interesting if this anticheat actually turns out to as solid as described, and would be able to ... god forbid... be implemented into QL :x

Turk, you might want to invest some time in building profiles in the following social media sites:

Twitter - an equivalent of facebook, and in terms of networking and profile building it's better due to the character limit: digested news basically.

Youtube - After own3d.tv was shut down, there are no alternatives to twitch for game streaming, however Youtube dwarfs twitch's overall userbase and is more likely to gain attention for your project by people randomly stumbling on q3r promotional videos (nobody randomly surfs twitch for VODs, yet billions of youtube videos are clicked on spontaneously.

Videogames subreddit ( a.k.a. /r/gaming) - widest portal in regards to all things games-related, however prepare for negative criticism if you aren't sure how to approach them ( PC gaming is a niche in videogames, First Person Shooters are a niche within PC games nowadays (in comparison with LoL/DOTA2/SC2), Deathmatch FPS are a massive niche in a a genre dominated by realistical tactical shooters and COD/BF clones, and Quake 3 is a niche due to its age and the age of certain competitior Deathmatch games, while instagib is somewhat of a niche within Quake3).

When you have a specialised product, it's better to take the time to learn the community you are selling it too and their demographic to avoid providing a negative view of yourself. A good example would be this thread. Although I was biased against you and your organisation at the time of writing it, having looked at my response #48 now, when after a few months I don't have any negative or positive opinion, I would still agree with the context of the statement (the only 2 words I would change would be "idiotic" and "retarded" and change them to a much more mild "misinformed", but the point still stands... I as a Quake 3 player disagreed with your logic and reasoning about bringing all quake 3 players. If you took a more humble approach of "hi, we're bringing competitive noghost back" instead, people like me wouldn't have a reason to whine. (people would still write things such as "lol noghost" but those kind of messages are universal no matter what mod or gametype you are advertising, and should be ignored to start with.), which would give you an opportunity to start slow and gradually build a fanbase or positive exposure for your cups.

p.s. Oh, and I'd advise to either kind of stay away from or not to put too much hope into excessiveplus... the only thing advertising or liasion with those people will give you in the long term is an aneurysm.

You can stream with Youtube, Ustream, Livestream.com, etc..

You could also hypothetically stream content on justin.tv, Omegle, CAM4, MYFREECAMS, chatroulette or whatever you wished for. However it would make as much sense as announcing FACE IT cups on The Huffington Post.


No point breaking the mold when the ground has already been broken and I wouldn't advise anyone doing live video streaming content on a portal other than Twitch or YouTube (which I forgot to mention also has live streaming capabilities in my previous post). Twitch is the best hands down at potential exposure of live streaming for all computer gaming and esports related content, and youtube is the only real option for VOD exposure.

I've done a lot of independent research on streaming styles, trends, communities, and such (both gaming and otherwise) for my own personal conclusions, and afaik the only person to not immediately use the Twitch platform immediately was Bro Team Pill (attempting livestream and youtube, but switching to twitch in the long-run), and I can see why: other platforms are not as likely to attract potential new fans that would stay in the video room, and the people attracted to the start of the stream are normally the already established fanbase which would view the stream no matter where.

This is exactly the opposite with VODs... it is very rare for people to constantly access VOD after VOD on twitch.tv, unless they are 1) looking for something specific (i.e. a particular event they referenced and now wish to prove) or 2) looking for tits, while the majority of internet users that are not affected by work or educational browsing restriction, have constant youtube video browsing sprees.

95% of the former ql playerbase and the remaining pub playerbase..

will it have new graphics?

Are q3 re-textures any good so they can be included with this or as a separate add-on, all in the same site?

Whats the point? Edawn is already smooth as. The only that needs to be done to get people playing Q3 is making a browser-based launcher ala QL so it's easy access. No one is going to bother downloading anything these days.

it exists already, from many years ago. Forgot the name because literally no one in the world used it.

That sucked. I remember it wasn't as easy as QL to use

download one file,.unzip content, double click, see what servers are up (images and all) and double click. Almost as easy as QL.

That's pretty easy compared to q3, which is download a million files, unzip stuff correctly, run into silly problems, double click, close the game because of forgetting to check server ips before hand, browse the interwebz, copypaste, run q3 again, the server requires more files or there was an installation error, solve it after lots of hours, go back to ql after getting tired of playing instagib or excessive plus against noobs.

I like the concept, but fear the implementation from past anticheat laggery. I am more than a little wary about leaving q3e though..

There is no cheater detection and banning system on q3r because we follow a pro-active approach against cheating. We focus on removing the possible backdoors that the cheaters could utilize rather than detecting the cheaters and banning them. We think that if we make the current/future cheats useless by using some techniques we develop, there will be no need to detect the cheaters as they won’t already be able to cheat.

just add hud_showinput like in Quake4, u can see the W,A,S,D keys and duck+jump with an attached mouse1 button, so you can see if the dude actualy hits the mouse1 to shoot a rail :)
