Yes you are right. QL pro and premium accounts can only be bought for only 12 months. ReLoaDeD do not buy them though. They are offered by our cup sponsor id software. They will be redeemed to winners' player accounts as tokens by id Software.

Well, it's obvious: huge influx od 1.16 players will save QL.

Too bad there's now some kind of anti-cheat in QL. And 1.16 players don't play games with anti-cheat.

1.16n has had a working anticheat in place for at least 2-3 years now

I wouldn’t call it support. Giving 1 / 4 * 3 + 1 / 12 / 2 * 3 = 3 / 4 + 3 / 24 = 6 / 8 + 1 / 8 = 7 / 8 of a pro subscription to be shared among 6 players, seems more like a shameless promotion to me. Even if only 1 of those 6 players subscribes after the end of their promotional token, they get their subscription back and earn on top the missing 1/8th.

You're right, but still, it's sort of unusual for id to get involved in an amateurish cup like this, especially for a game they have stopped officially supporting. Seems weird to me, is all. Trying to win over the vestiges of Q3 playerbase? Probably. But i can't recall any instances when they'd get actually involved with tourneys not hosted by themselves.

Still, it might be a sign of things to come? One can only hope.

The funniest thing is 1.16 is all the people who pirated q3 and never advanced to 1.32. I'm sure they will turn into paying customers in quake live.

Somebody asked syncerror if he can provide some subscription tokens for prizes and he said yes. That's their involvement, no big deal tbh.

Here are the instructions for the interested people who want to see id's official confirmation.

1. Go to official QUAKE LIVE page on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/quakelive)
2. Find the box for Likes with "Quakecon" , "The Elder Scrolls", "ID Software", "RAGE"
3. Press "See all" on the top right of that box.
4. Check the top of the list in the window opening and write here what you see there on top.

So because the random marketing person who manages the quakelive facebook pages "likes" your page you think that's proof.

Love the trailer. Hate the game mode.

why not. quakers are so divided into different scenes like no other game series. its nice that id software do a handshake with a subscene.

What QL needs to succeed:

- Rocket Arena-like mod with RA3 maps.
Rocket arena was 100x more fun than QL's CA, for those that just want to casually shoot around.

- Convert some of the subscription money into prize money for Weekly online tournaments organized by id itself.
Charge a bit extra if need be.

- Free player weekly tournaments with subscriptions as prizes.
Get more players into the premium bizz.

- Proper anti-cheat
To make it all work.

This seemed like an interesting idea, so I registered as soon as I hear (I mean, I do like instagib and even a noghost team). With a lot of enthusiasm I started gathering my friends to compete in noghost since my clan (13) had people go inactive or join teams just for cup!

Well, the cup administration is probably the worst I have seen anywhere online (XBOX live PRO EVO SOCCER tournaments and even the clusterfuck that is Q3 EXCESSIVEPLUS included)


The whole cup runs on a forum, in order to be eligible to play you have to write a "quake 3 memorial" (the ideas is that "id software will sponsor a publish of a book of noghost players", most likely in hardback lol), and the only cup admin approves or denies those memorials on a whim and on "how serious they are").

All posts are approved/denied on the basis of what the admin feels like, and he is delusional to the point he takes this thing seriously and won't let outsiders stream games (he requires them to join the streaming channel he made at to not stream any of his "events", and implied that even if a participating player invites a friend to stream a game, the team the player is from will get banned.

As a supervisor of clanbase, community promoter for Edawn, member of the QuakeLive UK national team and admin of kuh3liga CTF I advise people to stay away from this joke of a cup.

Well I watched a few minutes of their stream and well... As much as I was looking forward to it, I can't really find anything positive to say about it at all. I was rather dissapointed - I don't mean to be critical as it was a good initiative. All I can say is that it might have benefited from experienced involvment from other parts of the community...
