Why would anyone buy this other than for the VR?

I remember Carmack said in a video not long ago that D3 BFG edition will feature 120fps engine. Seems like it was a plain lie. I have to say nothing surprise me anymore with idsoftware nowadays sadly. First Rage, now this. I could find the video if anyone is interrested.

Is this about the graphics? Or have they copy pasted sections into what they call new levels?

Yep pretty much they got caught cut and pasting.

Maybe it was a 'revisiting the same place' kind of thing? or it is in another whole different levele?

You can select 120 fps and it shows as 120 fps and feels smoother.
But its wasted by screen tearing, 60hz and the fact that mp is virtually unplayable.

You wont get rid of the tearing, its just something you have to get used to, getting used to bad things is the price you have to pay if you want to play it.

Vsync will get rid of a lot of it, but then you have input lag which is worse, though it might be ok for the single player.

The mp is also unplayable due to ping and no options for custom servers and no voting etc.

I am attempting to get a refund from steam and will buy colonial marines in 2013.

colonial marines is really fun, low fov (not sure if you can change it, we were on beta client) but apart from that ridiculously awesome.

Is this worth a playthru? I've never actually played Doom 3, so this might be the right time to, but I'm not sure if I should bother.

Doom 3 SP is damn righteous, despite what some people might say. Definitely worth at least one playthrough.

For what it's worth there was a patch to D3:BFG yesterday, along with A GPL source release, so maybe we will see some engine mods appear over the coming weeks / months.
