So I always played with just basic sens and looking for some feedback on base settings for quake champs RE: accel settings inc offset + sens cap asI missed the boat with all the debate when this stuff was being put into quake live. I don't want to use 3rd party apps like Povohats. Everything must be legit.

current settings.
win 7x64+markc accel fix applied.
logitech g403 @ 400 dpi @ factory default surface type.
QCK+ Heavy
Enhance pointer prec = off + mark 6 on the windows sens.
3.6 inside quake champs. (no accel or other settings set)

Currently getting around 25cm for 360.

Based on that info; anyone have any good settings to start off with?

I'm pretty sure not using accel+offset+sens cap is costing me frags.
So just looking to nail down these settings so I can just get on with playing.

144hz/1ms 24 inch monitor @ 1920x1080

Any good aimers which just use basic sens?

I was under the impression most people are using accel now as the arguments for not using it were based bad implementations from years ago.

I dunno if there is any general sort of answer for this, but maybe this will give you a feel.

This is assuming the accel settings work as they do in QL, which is most likely the case.

At 400 DPI and 3.6 sens, you should have a 28.86cm 360. If it is different, you've got some scaling happening outside of the game, or your effective DPI is not quite 400.

Your 180 would be 14.43 cm. If you wanted enough accel to make that 10cm under a flick you perform in 0.2 seconds, you would use an accel of 0.203. If you wanted to make sure you could never do it in less than 10cm, you would use a sens cap of 5.195.

For offset, an offset of 1 means you get no accel for movements slower than 6.35 cm / s. An offset of 2 is obviously double that.

If you went with 1, then the accel I previously gave becomes 0.232. If you went with 2, then the accel becomes 0.272.

serious doesn't use accel and uses 20cm

toxjq doesn't use accel, or if he does, it's just a tiny little bit

szr doesn't use accel

i don't use accel

accel is good in some situations like flick rockets or mini flick rails or doing 180/360 faster if very low sens, otherwise it's inconsistent and sux

accel was introduced back in the days where we had ball mice or mice with crappy sensors that couldn't handle fast mouse's movements for 180/360 without malfunctioning/cursor going crazy + crappy and very small mousepads

You still get the benefit of not having to move your mouse quite as far for the movements that need to be done the quickest, if you use a low sens, so it makes low sens easier and faster to use.

If nothing else, it is more comfortable to play with.

Plenty of good players use accel. For the slow mouse movements used in tracking, it has its least effect, which you can easily adapt to to the point it feels strange without accel, and you can use offset to disable it at those speeds anyway.

Imo thats best settings u can have

If it feels too slow, rather than use accel, simply try to double your dpi and half your sense, it should feel quite abit faster while technically sense is thhe same, and if thats not enough double it again.

Accel could be good choice only with sens cap and offset. However while it's only available in Quake Live I wouldn't consider using accel at all. I think it's better to use the same mouse settings in every game to stay consistent.

Back in the days I was using some small accel with Razer Diamondback for like 2 years. Then I occasionally tried out my old mx300 without accel (since the mouse was lighter to move fast) I was completely devastated how well my aim improved in just like a couple of minutes. I told to myself: "man, you wasted 2 years playing on shit settings and mouse not designed for your type of use".

imho with offset, cap and other options it only gets even harder to have consistent aim. And what if the next game isn't coded by sync and sponge? Will it have the same options? Probably not.

Exactly. That's why I don't even bother trying offset and cap myself.

I just think that accel makes flicks inconsistent, but in theory it can be solved by sensitivity cap. It's not that you cannot hit great flicks with accel, but in my opinion it's only viable option if you play a lot every day.

Try this: double the value of your sens, and set your mousesenscap to your actual sens. So, if you're currently using sens 4, set it to 8 and then put 4 on senscap. Add a tiny bit of accel and enjoy. I don't know the inner workings of this, but I'm sure it does something on how accel behaves. I did this in QC because I couldn't translate my sens from QL correctly, and adding 0.1 accel felt too much. It's okayish now, or maybe it's just a stupid idea and a giant placebo.

Edit: just tried this in QL, you're right. It's a nothing burger. Maybe I felt a difference in QC because I'm playing at 35fps on my core2duo machine and the game runs so bad I actually have no idea what's up.

Haha if it does do something, the game is not working properly.

The way it should work is that your base sens gets an amount added to it from accel and then that value is capped.

So if you started at say 8, and you then get a little added (depending on your mouse speed) from the accel to get to say 9, then it will apply the cap and get to 4. No matter the amount of accel added, the result will always be 4.

So it may as well have just been 4 all the time.

The only exception would be a large amount of negative accel, but no sane person would do that. :D

If QC allows it, change yaw and pitch so they are not the same. moving your mouse upwards and sideways are different motions, it makes sense to have different sensitivities for each.

Mouse accel don't have to be inconsistent, you need to play around with it a bit and sens cap can also help you to get the right flicks and right tracking..

But I would recommend anyone to not use accel who don't know how it works and just find a sens that fit you! You can't ask around what sens you should use, you will go nowhere, find one that feels great and just stick with it and never change.

I have always used accel and have a hard time playing without it, that's just me.

I think I'm as good as I'll ever be, I was expcting to get 45+% shaft and a few times I was losing LG battles against anarki despie being stacked with SB, but the reality is, anarki /nyx is fucked up and SB (my main at the time) has a big hitbox, and the netcode isn't great and most good duel players are not even hitting 40% from my observations so all of a sudden my 28-32 percent does not feel so bad.

I have taken my LG up about 6-7 percent from playing 2 days of FFA, mostly camping the LG room on sarnath and just getting a better feel for how the LG works, eventually concluding my issue was I was aiming too much with the mouse, and not using strafe aim and micro mouse movements to lock onto the opponent. Lowered sense a bit, reduced FOV by 5.
