really nice riding! where'd you learn to ride so well? i want to get some track time and training, but the best i can find nearby (i'm in Ann Arbor, MI) is Grattan Raceway.

I raced sprint karts for many years and got a lot of high-level training in that so i'm thinking the same would be good for moto (even though i don't compete on moto). do you race?

I learnt by selling my car and living in the middle of the woods. If I want to do anything that doesn't constitute of me sitting in front of the PC I need to ride. School, work, errands, shop, leisure...

..and because I kinda fell in love with riding few years ago so I just spent all my time doing nothing but going up and down some twisties like a teenager who just discovered the female anatomy.


It was my first day on the track and honestly, I'm absolutely rubbish :D
Embarrassing as fuck, although the more laps I did, the better I handled the corners and track owner later said that I'm crazy for pushing that hard for the first time.

Seriously do yourself a favour and hit the track, you come home exhausted and filled with a lingering sense of accomplishment.

I don't race just yet and racing takes its toll on the wallet, I am interested though. Keep checking out my channel, I might even do an official race soon :)

Sadly not an isolated case. For some reason there's stil some stigma regarding two-wheeled vehicles in traffic. On one hand I completely understand how and why this dissonance between two vehicle operators occur - for one there's a vast amount of bikers who are plain ego-tripping dicks.

Not sitting in a car makes them feel superior in some unfathomable way. Certain riders often take a lot of risky manoeuvres and those are often the ones who paint the picture of this "subculture"- however, the vast (silent) majority are just people who enjoy riding and doing their best to be as safe as possible. I'm talking hi-viz clothings, Sport-Tourer bikes with all the new tech as far as safety measures go, fully geared and riding in their own lane exclusively.

Once you realize owning a bike is not a privilege and that pretty much everyone can own one, it's really hard to point fingers at "bikers" because you're trying to put a lot of people inside a group which is pretty damn hard to generalize - it's like saying "damn those shoes-wearing people, always getting in the way!"

I have no idea what's his daily job got to do with the fact that he got knocked off, would it be any different if he was a student? Why did they point out that a soldier got hit? He wasn't wearing a uniform, how could the driver know? Why is this important?

Anyway it looks like they were on a nice straight with good visibility of the road ahead, both the VW driver and bike waited for the perfect opportunity to overtake the car in front. The driver was reckless, didn't signal his erratic move and by doing so endangered the lives of others.

Mistake: No shoulder check, fast violent change of lanes

Now on to the biker - if you ride Rapha style you're always thinking 5 steps ahead. If you see [in this case VW driver] driving very close to the car ahead, you can expect that he might just do the overtake before you do. Is it right? Not at all. But once you're sliding down the road @150mph you don't care about who's right, but whether you're still alive before you hit something. (actually you get kinda panicky about the cost of bike repairs )

There's plenty of road rage and ego-fuelled car owners that seem to have a gripe and always want to race you. The shinier your bike, the more you are perceived as an enemy :/

Honestly I'm trying to be as nice as possible when I'm on the road, just to create some dichotomy between Sunday drivers, angry moms, adrenaline rushed teenagers and all other ill-tempered vehicle operators. When I do something stupid I apologise, when someone accidentally jumps in front of me I just wave back like it's no big deal.

There's a strange psychological effect when driving a car, we are constantly under impression that this is our single player game and others are annoying NPCs with little to no driving knowledge. Fortunately we are there to let them know they are both inferior and unwelcome by constantly honking, shouting at others, judging their every move. The problem arises when each drivers thinks of themselves as the protagonist in this game.

..once people step out of their cars they suddenly become much more humane. You don't see many people walking down the street and shouting profanities at others, flipping them off etc.

Might have gone a bit too deep with this reply but there's so many readily available public sources on video hosting websites including road rage and bikers vs cars footage that it's just something a bit too big to string together in a few sentences.


so tl;dr bikers are can be dicks but in this case the driver made a fast, reckless move without indicating it first and by doing so endangered others. Was it intentionally? I don't think so.
