The biggest teachers in sports were most of the time just average themself as athletes. Want an example? Mourinho. Sucked as football player yet he is without a doubt one of the beast coaches of all time. Heck, why should someone as gifted as Ronaldo listen to him?

Bad example, Jose is TWICE as old DDK for start and has been through much training at certified schools. Its also a 1000 times harder to make it as professional footy player than a quaker. And even harder in spain or portugal where the football/competition is AAA+.

Comparing a quake player to ANY footy manager is retarded, I still maintain Jose M has had it easy with the clubs, players money made available to him.

I also see Michael Laudrup, Michu, and various spanish, dutch, Korean internationals train several times a week as I live 5 minutes from Swansea city training ground and follow the PL fairly religiously.

Laudrup just schooled the champions of Europe on a team that cost over 10 times less, where I come from, that means far more than winning a title with a £300 million team.

there's no talent in esports(just as in real sports)

- improvement speed/ability(proper practice using brain, aftergame analysis and stuff)
- amount of practice
- physical capatibilities/abilities(i.e reaction time, hand-eye coordination, etc.) just like in real sports(i.e. gorilla like michael phelps, unbeatable jamaican sprinters' muscles, etc.). Those can be trained to improve them a lot(like real muscles) but everyone got his own physical cap.
- mentality and other psychic stuff
- technical knowledge, conditions and adaptability, most players are using bad hardware, settings and all of that. While anyone is able to hit 40%+ LG in proper conditions. This could be compared to Formula1, rally, other auto/motosports or sports with some technical equipment.

o wouldnt say talent is non existant... but its not as important as ppl see it... its one of the mental barriers ppl need to break, in order to improve...

"talented" ppl will get better faster, but others are able to do the same, just have to put more effort into it

There is talent in everything. Some part of everyone's skill is defined by talent and there is limit for each person, how far he can go, no matter what his training regime and dedication is. There was never observed an exception to this simple biology fact.

evil for example, he plays longer than any other current russian duel player, but became a real TOP player fairly recently just right when he started analyzing his own games and looking for mistakes(yet he won 6 asus cups in q3, but he never really was the best player in the world back then)
Though most top players are improving in all of those aspects together and there's barely anyone who has been capped by one of them but suddenly fixed it. I can rather name numerous players which are still being limited by one/several of them. Like for example Agent with retarded technical conditions(settings, cfg, etc) and therefore trash aim which never lets him win versus serious caliber aimers like strenx. Yet he played more games in QL than alfaomega and baksteen all together and improved other battle aspects up to the point when he can beat most players without needing to aim well, but still that caps him a lot.

though I'm not really saying that his settings are impossible to play with, for example Latrommi is using sens 4 accel 0.5 yaw .02 at 900dpi (which is ~sens 8 accel 2 yaw .022 at 400dpi) and he's aiming fine(only got problems with rail when being nervous sometimes). It's just retarded to play 20k duels like Agent on uncomfortable settings that you can't hit shit rather than finding suitable settings that you're able to aim with and playing those 20k without being capped technically imho. Though on the other hand he wouldn't improve so much in other aspects if he had some aim to rely on so that worked for him up to some point

Well, watch own demos and analyse whether you overshoot targets(which is more likely with your sens) when they change directions or vice versa being not fast enough to cope with their speed and lower or raise your sens according to that. Aim also requires analysys like general teamplay and you gotta watch demos(some fights in slowmo for example) or simply feel whether you gotta raise or lower it to reach the better results. In my experience of playing with the wmo the most comfortable sens was lower ~32cm/360(sens 3-3.2 yaw .022), and in general there aren't that many good highsens aimers, but in the end there's no golden setting that suits everyone. Also experiment with different configs, playstyles(i.e. zoomshafting) but don't change stuff every day, any major change needs to be tested at least for a week and everyone has his bad days.

Ok so I watched few demos with slowmo and I'm just missing in all directions =). My crosshair is below, above, to the left or to the right. If anything I'd say I'm undershooting. But ppl (including you in your post about agent) generally don't recommend sens higher than this.

Btw is this normal than my crosshair goes up when I get hit? didn't notice this before.

I don't really feel if I've got to raise or lower my sens because I haven't changed my setup/cfg since I started playing ql.

I'm zoomshafting and railing - I can't shaft long distances or hit any pixel rails without zoom (eg. on aero I need to zoom to rail upstairs. I take a lot of rockets because of this.)

What ddk is offering in his blogpost and video is thoughts. Thoughts that differ slightly from other texts about the same thing. Thoughts that you and I both know to some extent are correct. We all know practice makes perfect. We all know it takes a certain mentality to keep evolving, and we all know it takes a very special mentality to get to the top. Not all of us can get there, because we're not all cut out for it, but we all have it in us to do it if we put our minds at it.

Now, when I said it had little relevance to this case, I meant it in the sense that, you know, sure, like with products of the sort you give examples of, we're skeptically inspecting what is before us before employing it in our daily lives.

With that said, it's pretty conclusive evidence that you, in fact, have encapsulated just about everything that can only remotely be juxtaposed to your examples.

What I could propose though, is that you are jealous someone put what you couldn't into a blog and video. But thats just sinking to your level of fubar in this matter. So instead I'll just tell you this:

My point was if< someone did not know DDK was not a champion of frankly anything in the world of quake, many could assume that they were reading the words of someone who was better than he really was as its a fair assumption to think that if someone is writing such a thing then they would have climbed to the top in order to know exactly what they are talking about.

The reality is, for whatever reason DDK never became a champion, so if someone is reading his words under the false assumption that the authors theory must be right, then they are potentially prone to making the same mistakes the author did in his playing days because they believed him to be a better player than he really is die to the level of psyche he is attempting to cover.

Don't worry, you're not the first person to think he was smarter than me and then come to realise your level of intelligence is lower, but your level of self belief is higher. A bad combination.

Anyone, even a person you would describe as an actual champion. What ddk did was relay this information essentially as I'm sure he heard some of what he wrote and said in the video. This is, of course, combined with the basic knowledge that just about anyone can understand, which is that of practice makes perfect and so on, like I said.

As such it's quite easy to deduce that no matter who wrote it, the basic idea is the same. If you want to 'accuse' ddk of anything, let it be plagiarism, but anything regarding his 'failure' to become a champion from your perspective, ultimately rendering his words meaningless, is moot.

Don't worry though, you're definately not the first person to undermine my intelligence either. So I guess we're brothers in intellect. Lets see how big a replychain we can make this. I'm betting you got a whole lot more repeating to do than you've done so far, so I'm game.

It IS unfair for the reader to expect that if the reader is above averagely intelligent, as it is a clear case of having what it takes regardless of whether he failed or succeeded in employing these techniques/theorem - Also having researched furthermore if there are other similar texts on this matter out there, which there without the shadow of a doubt is. More on this below.

And because all of your points are financially related, I might add that the guide that DDK has formulated (which is a guide based on the same testimonies written by champions you might recognize as just that: champions), the financial gain is merely a bonus of being a top level player which is also basically the gist of what the guide is about: Focusing on achieving victory rather than achieving the prizepot.

And because DDK is involved in the quake scene, in case you didn't notice; there is not a whole lot of cash involved in playing quake at a high level at this point.

And before you start blabbering about my above response, I'd like to say that yes, financial gain may very well be something that inspires most people to get to the top, but in order to achieve getting to the top, you have to have your mind set on something more than just that.

It's hard to disagree with any oh what ddk says, but I cant be the only one who finds it funny how he says that with the mindset Spart1e had one can't be good, yet Spart1e is fucking good.regardless?

First of all ddk is one of the best tdmers and cpm players in the world. Secondly it's not like all quake players try to be the best, just a handful of ones in history (lets say 100) and most probably ddk isn't one of them considering all the try hards focused on duel at least at one point of their "careers". Thirdly, all the drama on this thread comes from a guy that went to a quake lan and got traumatized for life after getting roflmegaultra stomped on the first round.

With all that said, spartie obviously actively wanted to improve someday and ragequitting once doesn't make him a person with a bad attitude, especially against evil, having lags, on a final, after defeating cooller and on the most frustrating maps of them all.

Also I read the whole article as well not just the video and it's terribly written, as if by a 14year old who is writing his 'free willy' fan fic. It's plain cringe worthy and on tops I believe it's just plain wrong.

In practice- yes it's stupid to play for the outcome you just want to play your best without ever thinking in game. Is it still worth playing? Can I still win? If I stand still will I win as the time runs out? That is stupid that wont improve you and those thoughts are distracting.

But when you compete in a tournament and say are in the bo5 finals you are not there to improve but to win. Quake is hard and tiring as any other competition. Do you want to spend 8minutes on your weakest map while the opponent is pulling away each second by more frags? Do you want to waste energy, that you could use in next matches, on something that is a lost cause. Give your opponent extra confidence? Maybe all is lost and time to throw in the towel so you can go do something else productive?

He gave a example of a starcraft game where Fantasy 'fought' till the last. If you don't watch starcraft let me explain: In starcraft the objective is to destroy all your opponents buildings and you win the game. In the 10 years of sc:bw and thousands of games played only in a handful of games did someone destroy all the opposition buildings. Because when a player is in a severe disadvantage and there's no way out- they give the respect to their opponents, viewers and TV time, to admit they lost and stop wasting anyone's time. The player Fantasy ddk mentioned is notorious for not leaving lost games and wasting everyone's time. There was a thread on teamliquid that made fun of his bad gg timing.

But starcraft is a terrible example when comparing to quake. As in starcraft even the slightest advantage grows over time but in quake your 200/200 slowly ticks away and your opponent steadily is stacking up on those yellows to challenge you.


It's been a terribly long post now but last point I disagree with ddk was to play each game situation by itself, as if it doesnt matter if you are playing with your friends of you are about to play the Dreamhack finals. Or whether you got to hit a rail at the 3rd minute or last 20seconds. Long time ago when we ate bananas and learned how to use sticks, there were these douchebags lions that would chase us. Nasty assholes but sometimes in the face of fear our bodies were pumped full with adrenaline that gave us a short boost in performance and we could escape.

I believe and I was taught that putting yourself under stress raises your alertness and thus gives you extra performance. I remember telling my teacher that I was nervous before an exam and she replied that it's good. The stress will result in extra alertness and I will check each question and my answer to it more carefully with more attention to detail that less mistakes would escape me. Now before exams I always feel nervous but I consciously embrace it as I know that little fear means 5% more in my performance.

The thing is spart1e lacks self discipline, except maybe the effort he has put into teaching himself how to time and rotate multiple items perfectly. He doesn't practice and regularly plays with a hangover. If he practiced hard he would quite possibly be the world's best QL player.

That title isn't exactly motivating though.

I think his point is that the you are talking about a guys potential that isnt there. If he's unable to put in the work then that potential he could be able to achieve is purely imaginary and thus meaningless.

The sentence "If he practiced hard he would quite possibly be the world's best QL player" can currently only be applied to a few select individuals, and spart1e is one of them. He does have the potential in terms of skill, but lacks the self-discipline, and someone's ability to "put in the work" is subject to change depending on their motivation. This is the only point I'm trying to make.

Maybe we are talking about something completely different. I went to a very good school as a kid and I was surrounded by extremely smart people. And sometimes you would think and say, that kid is a fucking genius, if only he would put in some work he could do awesome things. But see where they have something given they also have something taken. So I saw a few of these kids blessed with an amazing mind but no work ethic. So they could never become anything.

He very well might fall into that category in which case it's pointless to discuss what if, because it's like a complete impossibility.

It's his motivation and self-discipline that have held him back, and these are subject to change over time. My statements about his possible future bear no relation to his lack of achievements in the past, because the only deciding factor can change over time.

He lacks motivation, self-discipline, consistency, skill and the mentality. You can't judge him based on the best games he ever had, but the average. He might miss out on many more criterias too, just we can't see them. I think there's a lot more into being cypher or rapha than just what you would think. And yea he might become world's best ql player someday if he keeps playing, but never the best ql player the world ever had.

Consistency is directly related to self-discipline and motivation, and so is mentality, so you can scratch them off your list.

Skill is something that spart1e does have, I don't know why you included that on your list either.

And I actually can judge him based on the best games he ever had, because it is precisely these games that prove what he is capable of.

So that leaves us where I started: motivation and self-discipline are the only things spart1e is lacking, and these are things that can change over time.

Err no you can be inconsistent no matter how much self-discipline and motivation you have, and dunno if you actually think cypher in his best form would lose to spartie in his best form, if we're looking at the best games they've had. Yea he has some skill but obviously not enough to be the champ, he hardly reached consolation final when he played ql lans? And mentality is something you shouldn't overrule and you might not be able to change that with motivation or self-discipline (look at strenx and the mentality he has, how many LANs he has won?)
