If it was marketed as it was, (and reached an overwhelming succes at its time) like any other plain game that would be toda, I think it would. Becouse:

The game which many find one of the best ever made fast fps, is 100% obsolete today.

1. Q3 had no skill protections, evil red eyed monsters were running amok slumming tiers 24/7 uncontrolled - however the funny thing is people were playing it. They could actually finish a ctf match with 10 people on a public server, casually.

2. It didn't have gtv and cash prizes, ladders and the rest of those tiresome clownfarts built-in at the first releases, yet people were drawn to the game.

3. It was a little bit more complicated to install a 1.32 + osp, than say installing the worlds most played fps till today, cs 1.6, where you pick your uzi and magicwand and brickheadterrorist dude with glasses is all set, all you have to do is lay on your egg for a half a day in the corner of the map. Although Q3 was not like this case, people were playing it.

4. People were constantly beaten down, newcommers were threated like rampaging stepdads would treat their sons, and guess what after the newbs had their asses handed to them, they came back for some more, till some of them became the ones that pwned. Alot of people did this.

We have yet to see a working model for a fast fps today to compete with other very popular games where you have to build your canary, sorry caracters fingering tactics day-by-day and etc. Becouse I think quakelive is at a hold still, it does not suck in new people, they last of the last stay now, people who really wanto play quake.

Yes shootmania, well if it will really have 2 weapons, and will have all its maps look like they are replicas of ruins on rural parts of mongolia it might have a little space in the shadow of cs 1.6
