I designed a new FPS duel game called "Reborn" its meant to play like quake with a more advanced movement and weapon system, with integrated tournament system, ladders, tour UI and a whole bunch of competitive features I helped implement into Bloodline Champions. I have a meeting with an investor to raise 2.5 mill, I could get the whole game done in 2 years tops, which would still beat quake 5 by 3 years i'm guessing.

I have more faith in 2GD and some random game that probably won't come to pass than in Quake Live. Of course, band this community together the right way from the start and the possibilities are endless. I would help such a project.

No one is going to give anyone a few mill to develop an evolution of an already commerically dead game. Especially someone whose never developed a game before. At least not any time soon.

Sponsors do not care about skill or talent unless their product is directly aimed at that market and they already know you bitches will travel the world for peanuts and play a 10 year old game, so why risk millions?

To obtain broadcasting rights for a game no one else gives a shit about?

All they care about is exposure, these are the games with 3-4-5 million sales because they simply get much bigger viewing figures.

IF<<<< someone out there exists with a stack of cash and a love for quake and does not mind taking that risk, or even losing money then sure, but I'm pretty sure that person would have made himself known by now.

That's the thing thresh is probably a millionaire, and you can't say he didn't like quake, so if someone like him doesn't support it, then its hard to see how anyone would.

I doubt Lakerman turned into much more than a degenrate poker player. No matter how good you are at poker/gambling, you only win when you retire for good, and there's nothing cool about a life based on the misfortunes of another people.

Depends on your idea of fail i guess, im sure many players had fun and made a few quid playing those games, but on the whole, it didn't amount to anything long term and cool.

I never got to say it to 2gd directly but I hope he knows I am very grateful of everything he has done so far for quake and all he plans to do for it still.

Well, it's great that he's trying to help the Quake community as much as he does, but does this decision to just make a new game mean he's basically given up on Quake? If so that's sort of depressing. and even if he DOES get the money to make the game, I'm not so sure it will be that great anyway. Despite some people being affectionate towards Quake clones and spinoffs such as Warsow, I personally am not.

id software has completely missed all opportunities with QL, so really the only way for Quake to rise again is to reincarnate as a new game.
And you shouldn't mix up some random spinoffs made by/for clueless fan nerds with project that has very concrete aim and directed by someone who's got really good understanding of why people play games.

Quake declines only because of id software. A proper Quake game in the present could captivate a huge audience. The way you communicate your thoughts leads me to believe you should be playing those "camper pub games."
