skazi's remixes do indeed tend to fall into the cheesier end of the psy/goa genre, but as long as he's not driving people away from finding out about the rest of the genre then it's not a bad thing.

overall, glad to see more people using goa in gaming movies, as i've been blissing out to the likes of hallucinogen for around 12+ years now.. all good. :-)

Awesome editing and effects.

Content was normal, lots of standard frags and what not but this was ok since the editing and effects made up for them and showcased the content really well.

The intro was very, very nice.

The music however just didn't work for the frags/content. For the effects maybe but I think it really spoiled it (my opinion) but from a showcase point of view this was very very impressive. I agree with whylf the music really messed up the very good editing.

The only bit that I hated was the screen of clips and the lyrics on screen, it looked really nice sure, it was obviously there to fill that section of music but god it was awful and annoying. :)

Aza, the frags were largely of really high quality... plus some of the funniest/luckiest frags ive ever seen including hydras quad rocket frag.

As for the music I'm not into this type of music, but i would have to say it is possibly the most fitting type of music that you could have for these frags.. I think you`re letting your own personal taste for music be the judge, and not whats most fitting.

i am not also fan of this kind of music, but imo i think it really fits well in the movie ;)

There were a fair amount of standard frags, just showcased in a very nice way but yeah there were lots of skilled and lucky ones.

As for the music, it's not down to personal taste at all. I just don't think it sits well with the content (frags) but it does work wonders with the editing.

I still think it is a very impressive video though. :)

btw I love psy-trance. And it's a great style of music for a frag movie. But what annoys me is that these tracks aren't very good (one part was really awful). There are SO MANY better tracks with the same style that would've been great for this movie.

Incredibly well-made editing and effects, the cfg was ace with no 2d what so ever, music could've been better but the majority of usually dull standard frags suddenly became very entertaining to watch due to the effects - Been over a year since I saved a good Q3 frag movie on my computer, so thanks Liquide for refreshing my video folder! Gave it an 8.

Personally I loved the movie from an editing point of view, but hated the music vehemently, especially Benny Benassi - Satisfaction. Not only has it been used a million times, it also just plain sucks.

Editing was the best I've seen any place, ever, and I really hopes this movie can somehow be used to improve Liquide's life professionally as well. He has talent, and this is the perfect portfolio work to display that.

Still same lyrics and same basic beat. I don't like techno/electronica and similar, so I don't like the music in the movie. Doesn't stop it from being an easy 10, but I just can't enjoy it as much as I could if it had some good old rock and metal.

hmm so far the best music featured in a movie so far (ofc only imo because of my taste) the editing was very very sweet and nice made, very clean, but in some way some lack of an hud, maybe just a tiny dot crosshair would have done the trick for me.

Annihilation was made back in 2003. 2 years counting movie creating of this kind is a major difference. own-age's job was more impressive to me back then, than Liquide's job is now. Not to take away the fact that Liquide could've done an equally good piece back then but since that didn't happen for whatever reason I find it to be out of the question :P blah, I'm not making any sense right now, good night =)

Can't stand that music. That really fuck up the move imho. And I think there's a little bit 'too much' of editing.

Couldn't agree much more. The "music" gets literally unbearable from 1:55 to 8:59. That lameass unintelligent uninspired German techno *dunk dunk dunk dunk dunk* bass beat really destroys the original songs and drags down the overall quality of the movie.

Yeah especially for the first one which is I think an extract of the original sound track of Requiem for a dream. The original song is damn good, but that electronic version is just horrible.

i liked it. was shown the intro a few months ago to provide feedback and whatnot, and was impressed with it even at such an early stage. editing wise this movie's very well made, and very close to how a quake3 frag movie might look if it came from either myself or apm, or anyone else at shaoprods. thumbs up! i liked the 'matrix source' style video wall.. an editing nightmare, but well made. :)

codec quality could've been a bit better, and whilst i liked most of the songs used, i was a bit miffed at the way the songs were mixed, or rather weren't.

sp are no different from any one else making movies, in that we don't make movies because we think we're 'leet', and we certainly don't impress on to people that they should think that we are. We make them because we like to make them, we like to try to push the medium in new directions, and we hope to make movies that people want to see. In much the same way as anyone else who spends more than 10 minutes throwing a movie together. I think it would be foolish to think we could impress everyone; so thanks for thinking different. :)

SP aren't average, just some of the members arn't as good as others. I think that jrb and liquide are the most skilled q3 movie makers around. They have different styles, but are equally as good.

Some nice ideas, but too many "filler" shots or actions that get drowned in the editing and effects imo. In the first minutes I was going to keep it and the rest of the stuff took more than it gave :/

I think it's clearly a winner in terms of editing but in terms of enjoying 'wow' frags? Frags are not clearly visible and many of them are sacrificed to promote special effects. If you're looking for a pure frag movie this one isn't your best bet. If however you want to enjoy a visual experience that far surpasses anything else I've seen in Quake 3 movies then you should download this movie now.

On the music issue, after reading the comments I was horrified as I was expecting that the author had used some lounge/chilling ambient sountrack that totally destroyed the mood. As it turned out the music is indeed electronic but it fits the movie nicely, being fast and hard where it has to and slower in certain sections.

Definetely a keeper and a 8-9 out of 10.

I think that, like the lastest q3 vids, something is missing, too much deja-vu. Some things like a real personnal touch, "message" or visual/graphic art.

Dunno how many i'll rate this right now. Less than 7 for sure. Editing+frag+sync music are not enough anymore ihmo.

nice movie :)

"Lyon Connection" has raised the bar of q3 movies quality. Not only editing wise. So it'll be hard to look at this movie w/o comparing it to the aforementioned one.

So let's look closer at this one:
Frags are the main content of fragmovies. There are some awesome ones mixed with a lot more average ones (like shooting a rocket at a guy 10 feet from you & then rail), so fragwise it ain't the best movie out there.

Now we come to the editing part; at most times it was very nicely done (it was synched nicely with the music) but there were some parts where it didn't feel that smooth. Editing wise the intro & outro were the best.

The cfg was a bit too dark and quality wasn't of the highest standards (above average tho).

Music is a matter of taste. For me it didn't fit that good in this movie. Also it was one constant flow - no pause between one track and another which just didn't feel right IMO.

Certainly not your average fragmovie but not a masterpiece either. Worth a watch once or twice.

CONTENT
Quality frags, but nothing jaw-dropping. Standard high-caliber rails, shafts and rockets you would expect from some of the most skilled and experienced players in the world. Solid.

EDITING/EFFECTS
Excellent and professional effects. Precise angles and replays. Good use of slow motion to synch with the soundtrack. Very smooth intro. However, many of the frags are so quick that they're hard to comprehend, especially without any in-game frag messages. There are periods when there's too much going on too fast. It's also nearly impossible to watch all the frags and read all the player names at the same time. Unnecessary song lyrics halfway through.

SOUND
Could be better. It's not necessarily the music genre used, but perhaps the songs in particular. Just didn't "feel" right when watching the movie, didn't flow very well with the visuals. Given how busy the movie is frag-wise, the music only makes it harder to watch at times. As well, many of the frags were a noticeable fraction of a second behind the music. Not bluntly off-synch, but just noticeably so.

OVERALL
Very skilled effort. 7.5 out of 10.

Long-winded intro, garbage music, and too many slow motion sequences. Lost interest and stopped watching after a few minutes. 3/10.

It wasn't that bad for me, but it is indeed 'over-edited'. e.g. splitscreen is a nice feature, and is definately useful for some parts (the double-rail in the beginning), but having almost all the time is just annoying, same goes for slowmotion. The music is personal preference, I partly liked it but after some time it got a bit annoying, too. Some frags were good, some frags could have been let out, some were just boring (comes with slowmotion I guess). Good show of editing skills, but for me it wasn't that entertaining as a frag movie.

Lyon Connection easily owns this. 7/10

I think this Movie lacks Atmosphere and Speed. But the editing is very nice. Its an editing monster. Almost every scene has synched slowmotions which must have been hard work. But this is not a Movie i can watch again and again and again like i can with "Annihilation" or "The Painfull Movie". And the fraggs didnt look that great. I think to make frags look impressive you mostly need speed, so slowmotions are good but to have too much of them is not the way a moviemaker should go. The second problem of slowmotions is that its almost impossible to synch ingamesounds to them. When you have so much slowmotions it is very very hard to have ingamesounds synched with them. I would take MUCH time and i think that´s the reason why there are no ingamesounds. You can have either slowmotions or gamesounds. I think a mix of them is the best way.
And the Music fits not that good i think. The Movies mentioned above have much more atmospheric music. I dont mean they have all metal and thats the way i like it. No. yes they have metal, but they also have very slow,atmospheric music to build up atmosphere. Virtuosity has that kind of Music in the Beginning but then the music is very monoton and strange i think and bothers me.
So yes this Movie has "better/more editing" than Annihilation but flow, Atmosphere and the right amount of speed is more important for me but i gave this Movie a 9 because this Movie has the best use of "slow motion editing" i have seen so far and i know that it is impossible to make a movie that "has it all". There is no perfekt Movie and ther will never be. But for me The Painfull Movie and Annihilation are still the best Q3 fraggmovies. Ive you havent seen The Painfull Movie so far you should give it a try(search for TPM on own-age.com).

Mix impessive frags with dull, common frags, use crappy music with annoying computer voices, use slow motion and visual effects for the sake of using them, use a crappy q3 config, combine with great(!) intro and boring credits and you get this movie.

However. I feel I'm seeing several missed opportunities, regarding to the synching\editing process, some speeding\slowing parts that has too much of a bungee feel to it. Might be personal preference though..

Definately one of the best frag movies to date!
I can see this being a 10/10 for at least half the people that see it. For me, though, its just a tad to over the top with the effects and I often found the editing taking over from the frags. Also, alot of the frags are very good but some are very average. None of the frags blew me away though. I'm getting a little critical here, there are more good things than bad things in this movie :)
In a nut shell:-
A mass of special effects and editing greatness of some average to great frags.

I rated this 8.5/10 and I rated Lyon Connection 7.5/10. If I had to watch one of these again I'd prefer Lyon Connection. As with The Badge 3.0, Annihilation and Virtousity, the editing is of a higher level in The Badge 3.0 and Virtousity over Annihilation but I prefer to watch Annihilation any day :) Thats how I like my frag movies, great subtle editing and suitable music with a mass of awsome frags and action.

Great movie.. music is always difficult, because you simply cant fit everyones favors.
However, the editing is just amazing - voted 9, only -1 was the music ;)

Frankly the split screen was nothing but distracting, and the "know you better than myself" karaoke shit was irrelevant. The editing was extremely professional though, and the quality was nice. I think I rated it six, but I meant seven. I guess Forever 2 and Lyon Connection have changed my standards a bit.

Liquide doesn't play Quake and hasn't to my knowledge ever played Quake. Liquide was the premier tanker in BF1942 and has made movies in BF, ET and now Q3. He's a BF'er, any claims to anything else are false and people making these claims should be shot on sight.

Music didn't bother me at all. I think a lot of you are overlooking the fact that in order to do editing like this with the way he used all the effects he needs this kind of music.

The pacing and the lil breaky thingies etc are exactly what he needs for the way he put the film together.

Peronally I dislike the music, but the way he put everything together is really extraordinary and the music fits in just fine.

The first song Overdose by GMS is my favourite!!!
Its a remix of the theme song from " Requiem for a Dream" and it fkn makes my skin crawl every time :P

one of the best quake3 movie i've ever seen, 10 from me

sucks & is teh boring imo.

what i get from seeing the movie is that someone is an attention whore, meaning alot of effects for no parent reason. Music can be discussed. editing was cool but the two window thingy got boring the second time. With cool/good/great frags this movie could have been better... too much average frags imo. I wouldn't rate this movie high but i guess i'd recommend it.

ppl have been comparing this movie with annihilation and says that virtuosity is very very much better, imo not. annihilation has perfect mix of effects, it pretty much only have cool frags, great choice of music. virtuosity is all about the effects and editing, not the content.

my favourite frag movie would still be Fight 4 The Flag... man i love that config :(

hmm, i saw alot movies, ofcore now i dont watch as mutch as i watched ~1 year ago... anyway this movie is really good, and its not only my opinion

its a good movie.

but its just hard to do a great frag movie these days...really not much frags that are "wow", or have never seen be4 out there..so thats why i wasent impresed tbh.

the editing is good..sync to.
dont like the music, but it doesnt make the movie any worse in my eyes.

Just stayed up downloading the movie....

it wasnt really worth it. not for the frags at least. beautifully edited with nice sync-up of sight and sound even down stuttering the camera movement.

But on the whole not a satisfying movie the frags were ok. some nice air rockets and the odd nice rail but everyones capable of pulling off silly rails im sure i could go through all my old demos and cobble together frags of that quality.
i find it more impressive to watch a movie where there are a series of nice frags in a sequence not simply......

*cut shot* sum1 gibbed at ur feet
*cut shot* some1 caught plum in the air with a rocket
*cut shot* rail through tight gap.... and so on

The music......heh nicely cut together with the shots and getting the action to fit with the drops of the tunes, but boy did it sound tacky. it gave the whole thing an ibiza meets quake 3 awkwardness. pls some1 try using something other than hardrock/generic dance for a movie i think everyone would be intrigued.

if ur interested in seeing a well edited movie by all means download it but the lack of crosshair and ingame asthetics detracts from the impact of the frags. which arent much to right home about anyway.

even so, impressive production.

Editing 9, Frags 7, Music 8. Although it's really not my kind of quake-movie (i like the old ones; just insane frags, with blood, marks and full sound with some music in the background), I think this movie was awesome. Great synching, ok frags, some of them very nice. Music wasn't of my taste (at least not "play the game".. that was kind of gay :p), but still I think it played well in this movie. Gave it an 8.

it was with an unexpected pleasure i watched this movie cos they're rarely made with that kind of fast music

i dont understand how you can say the frags are not that good, imo they are just great, airrocks in every sense, airrock + rotations etc
Still the frags that are the less impressive are made nicer with that awesome editing ;)

Awesome movie, best editing in a frags movie to date, I've been listening to "Infected Mushroom - I'm The Supervisor" all night whilst downloading as well and didn't have a clue it was featured in this movie... so as u can imagine I loved the music as well and was pleasantly surprised :D

I liked the one movie better that goes "do you like my haaat??" at the middle
