It's 70th anniversary today/this week (?) and there's been a lot of shows on the BBC regarding it today.

One show I caught the last 20mins of was one called "The Battle of Britain" starring Ewan McGregor. It tells the story of what happened, reenacting parts of the story and generally being educational :)

I advise you all who enjoy documentaries to go and download it or watch on BBC's iPlayer (when available).

So I had the last 2 days off sick (fuck u boss lol, but no really i was ill) and I was looking at steam for something to play and I came across CIV4 (knowing CIV5 is out soon).

I hadn't played any CIV game since 2, I didn't like 3 for some reason, however I decided to try 4 and it's fucking awesome.

I must of played it yesterday for a good 6 hours (only to come 2nd lol). Wasted an hour or two sucking because I didn't have a clue what I was doing (skipped tutorial obviously).

Anyway the next game was awesome and I haven't played anything that long since Fable 2 came out.

Looking forward to getting home and starting a new game (+beer as it's Friday) :)

Tips and things to try are welcome. (like are scenarios worth trying?)

Dear ESR,

My boss only comes into the office once or twice a year.. and hes coming in tomorrow. I made a pretty big cock up at work today and he yelled at me on the phone, I nearly hung up on him mid yell but didn't, man I was close? I haven't been yelled at since primary school.

Do I :

a) Call in sick tomorrow (very obvious, I kinda have to be at work tomorrow..)
b) Come to work, get yelled at in face this time and either:

b.1) not take his shit and walk out
b.2) take his shit and keep my job

Suggestions welcome!

Moaned at me for about 5mins about why he was pissed off, still got my job.. and he's gone to visit more customers... I hope to god (cooller) all the addresses are ok :)

Anybody got a high visibility config? By this I don't mean high graphics, I mean which gives the best quality/visibility of the enemy etc..

I often struggle to see the enemy through plasma fire or through explosions etc..

Post an image of your cfg if it's awesome! :-)

I will be, hopefully it's back up some time tonight so I can play some freeze tag, i used to love that shit back in the day!

Not sure wether to pay for premium or pro yet though.. Guess i will decide when QL is back up.

If theres one game I don't mind paying for it's quakelive.. I've played q3/ql for years, it's the only game i keep coming back to.. Definately worth supporting imo.

Well, if your like me and do a clean install pretty often then this might come in handy for reinstalling all your apps..

It's a great website called Ninite (http://www.ninite.com), you simply tell it what software you want installing, download a small file and it downloads and installs the latest & correct versions of the software you selected.

I did a reinstall tonight and it took about 30mins for a fresh install of windows 7 and 5/10mins to install 95% of the apps i use.

PC's running like new again! I like :-)

Just thought a few people find this new & useful.

I know theres alot of hype around it but I don't see why.. It's just an RTS.

Dear ESR,

I totally don't get why every weekend, tuns of people young and old go out and get shit faced..

I've done it alot but find myself telling my friends i cba to go out at the weekend because i'd rather spend my weekend being able to do something, rather than having a hangover, feeling like shit and doing nothing.

I guess i feel this way because i hate being ill/hungover and would much prefer to drink alittle rather than alot.. I much prefer being slightly buzzed rather than being shitfaced and out of control of my actions.

I also regret it the next morning, when i realise how much i've spent and how worthless it really was.

Maybe i'm just a boring old fart.

So on Saturday night most of my friends when out in town to watch football, i was going to join them but another friend said he didn't wanna go and i was on the fence anyway so we decided to have a bbq then watch the game with a few beers.

We went ASDA and got 30 beers for £15 and lots of food. We then ate, watched football and played some heads up poker after.. it gets round to 3am and i get a call from my mates in town who are now home and want to come round.

They are all totally pissed, 1 of them cant form a sentance and procedes to pass out on my couch. Next my other mate got his cock/balls out and decides to stick them on my friends face while my other mates takes pictures. (writing this, it actually sounds really gay).

It was pretty funny but can't help thinking, if that were me i would be ashamed of myself. (being the receiver of said balls, or the giver).

Another reason I'm not a big fan of getting shitfaced.

It's a Proliant G4 2x3.4ghz Xeon.. for £115 on ebay..

I mainly bought it because i want to learn about servers, networking windows server & vmware etc.

Anyone got a good idea to use it for? thinking FTP, Utorrent server?

Got a new Xbox so I’m back on XBL now.. mostly playing MW2 (currently level 27 after about 10hrs of play)

I've also got SSF4 which I suck at, but I’ve always sucked at fighting games..

No time for QL recently though :-(

Life
Applied for an IT Trainee job that pays the same as my current job, bit more travel and shitty hours, but will give me some qualifications and experience.

Going Squash 3 times a week with a bit of running in between, trying to lose my beer gut.. I've cut chocolate, crisps/chips & cheese out of my diet in an effort to reduce my calorie intake.

Web design
Finished my IT repair company website and it looks decent enough for a 3rd effort.

I'm now learning JS, PHP and mySQL as I would like to design an e-commerce website for the business i currently work for (but may not do soon if I get that job, but it's something to do otherwise..)

Not really, just some life update stuff :

WORK:
I've been on my own at work for the last week or 2 due to my bosses farther dying. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January after a stroke. He went through radio therapy 3 weeks later (after being given 2 weeks to live..). Anyway the final week my boss was coming into work pretty much full time and decided to finish at lunch on Friday. He died that afternoon.

Today she came back to work today, I bought her some flowers and a card (she cried a little), she explained that he went very peacefully and had a nice funeral. (costing £8K+!!)

LIFE:
I've recently started going squash 3 times a week, with either my sister or a mate.. Really enjoying it so far and its helping me get fit. (I currently weigh about 11 1/2stone, height 5,8" so not fat but have abit of a beer belly). It's the summer soon and i wanna look slimmer in my t-shirts than i do now.. :)

GAMING:
Last weekend there was a free trail of MW2 multiplayer on steam, so i played that on sunday for about 6hrs straight. Totally enjoyed it, but fuck am i paying £40 for a game..).

QL: Aint played much the last month.. I will try and rectify this soon.

WEBSITE: I've got my business name, which unfortunatly wasn't recommended by someone on ESR. I'm currently designing it now. I'm on my 3rd re-design as i keep hating them when i've finished. Personally i'm enjoying the design/creation aspect more than actually trying to sort my IT repair business out.
Maybe i still suck at it, but i'm enjoying the process.

TLDR; bosses dad died - i got her some flowers, playing squash regularly to lose weight, played MW2 free for 6 hours, no ql much,i like web design.

Now must get back to work.

1. Aliens arriving to our planet (in peace hopefully)

2. Humans landing on Mars (always imagined this being a thing watched by every single person on the planet, with the astronauts covered in sponsor logo's, probably "Coca Cola..")

3. Probably end up seeing WW3 (not that I’d like to though)

4. Anti gravity everything. Preferably hover board.

5. Genetic removal of all diseases from babies/foetuses (hopefully free and not expensive so we don't get a Gatatica type situation)

Dear ESR,

I have little to no experience designing a website and I’ve been trying to create a website in Dreamweaver..

Everything i try and do tends to fuck up everything else (due to my lack of html knowledge and what I’m actually doing).

Is there alternative software to use? Is there some other software that’s easy to use?

I could create a website that looks straight out of the 90's, but I'm aiming for something a little more up to date.

I'm working on my knowledge of CSS and Html, so if you guys know of any good tutorials let me know.

I figured I would post about this awesome space documentary on the bbc currently.

It’s called "Wonders of the Solar System" and its on : iPlayer

The expert is Professor Brian Cox (who did a great doc on the LHC) who explains things very well.

One thing in the show i thought was really interesting was the mass bombardment of asteroids and how they may of bought water to earth (and possibly life..)..

If you can’t watch it on iplayer, I’m sure there are torrents of the show.

If you enjoy a good space doc, watch this.. It doesn’t have much old recycled material like most docs use.

It’s up to date, interesting and the guy seriously knows his stuff. (he’s a quantum physicist)

I'm at work doing sweet fa, I've booked next week off to watch the ESL finals (and other stuff), so 3 more days of work then I’m off for 9days in total.

I've been trying to build a website for a little project i have going on, but web design has changed a lot since the days i made a website in school and i've forgotten the little I did know.

Mainly been watching you tube videos (they're crap in general but teach the basic's I forgot) and googling things I need to learn.

Any good websites for teaching web design would be helpful ^_^

I've started playing QL a bit again, mainly on weekends when I have nothing to do.

I still had a decent aim after 6 weeks of not playing at all. That quickly disappeared and now i suck.. I find that happens a lot when i have breaks from Q3/L. Good to begin with, get worse, hit rock bottom and then get better slowly. Though i play for fun, I still hate it when I play bad and lose, I don't mind playing good and losing because that just means my opponent is better than me which I can live with.

I have also played a few PC games that are probably not worth mentioning, but as I don’t have anything else to do, I’ll continue..

AVP = Sucks, quit after 5mins because I didn’t like the movement..

Mass Effect 2 = Played for about 1 or 2hrs, haven't touched since. I find the sensitivity a bit shitty (high whatever i change). I will eventually go back and play it though..

Bioshock 2 = Feels like walking around in waste high water (ei SLOW).. Doesn’t feel (the atmosphere) any different than 1... Also the sensitivity is mega high even on the lowest. (this is probably a mouse issue with my pc, QL is perfect though).


End.

TL;DR : work sucks, took a week off work to watch ESL, trying to design website, played some new games but not for long cus they were anooying..

The keyboard dock looks pretty sweet, would be cool if you could plug in a mouse also.. maybe even play QL :O

Price is much less than i expected too! If i actually used a laptop much, i'd consider buying one..

Plus its a huge step towards those pads on star trek...

1. I asked my ex gf to marry me while we were both lieing on a skate board rolling down a road..(she said yes)

2. I was in a taxi while missile launchers on the side of mosques decided to start randomly shooting rockets at me, one hit, i woke up.

3. I was riding a motorbike and came to a 3 lane crossing where i realised i was in the wrong lane, i jumped 2 lanes, ended up infront of a Learner vechicle. The instructor was pissed at me but i drove on.. i stoped at a shop and the learner came in to tell me i was being dangerous earlier.

Thought id write a little as im bored at work right now..

Christmas was actually not to bad, had about 8 or 9 days off.. seeing the family was ok too, got drunk christmas day and then boxing day.. started getting a soar throat on the monday, by thursday i felt aweful and ended up spending NYE in bed.. although i was baby sitting my brothers dog so i had some company.

I never got my own puppy for christmas like i asked for but was told by my parents they would buy me any breed i wanted when i move out..

Anyways, ive been back at work less than week and im bored already, cant wait for weekend now..

I've been there for over 3 months now, while the job is easy and not at all stressful.. but i find myself looking on job sites for something else more exciting/interesting..

I've been looking into doing some Microsoft Certified exams so i can get a job in IT, the first exam im likerly to take is the 70-620 exam on configuring vista. Then move on to other exams that interest me more..i plan on doing a few this year. I have been watching some CBT nuggets so im prepared for the exam, which im gonna take within the next month or so.

I just wish i hadnt wasted my time doing jobs just to pay the bills (sales), rather than doing something i've been interested in since i was 12.

There is that old saying "Better late than never" which i guess applies here, even tho im still relatively young but not compared to graduates (not going uni is something else i regret) who are coming out of uni alot more qualified...I guess it will be a while before i have any sort of meaningful qualifcations.

Time to stop wasting my time playing games and watching tv, and time to start concentrating on my career and my what i want to do in the future.

Also my 360 got banned this week during the mass ban microsoft rolled out..

Upto 600,000 consoles got banned for terms of use violations.

I guess it was because i didnt wait to play any of the new games, otherwise id of been fine. (my friends is)

Tbh i never actually played my 360 online much, but i did download demos, purchase arcade games and pay for premium membership.

So now Microsoft will not be getting any of money off me, stupid move by Microsoft imo.

I will still continue to use my chiped 360 for the reason i got it chipped.

I cant believe how much money i would of wasted on games that ended up being shit. Most of my 40ish games dont even get touched anymore.

Fifa 10 being the only one currently played.

Updated to windows 7, even tho im not a fan of the taskbar.... il get used to it eventually with time.

I managed to back up everything except the most important thing on my pc - my latest config :-(

So now im just gonna have to get one of the pro's configs from ESL dubai and change to my liking.
(ive tried a HD recovery program but my cfg is a mess of unknown characters)

EDIT - Found my config on my external hdd, which was only a few weeks old. (missing ql update changes)

They are sending me to Brussels in November for training at the head office which should be alright i guess.

So, ive been back from Cyprus close to 2 months now and im still unemployed..

Claiming job seekers (awaiting Jamerio rant)..

I dont regret quiting my job to go live in cyprus for abit, as i was stuck in a dead in job which i was totally sick of.. I had abit of money saved to last me long enough so why not.

Am now looking very hard for a job and expect to get one within the next month or so..

What im talking about is when your browsing servers, and you see that little icon that says "Very Difficult".. even tho you've beat the person on the server! Shouldnt it be more like "perfect match ". Obviously i agree with a few of them being very difficult (eg, pro's etc)

How do you improve your level as so you dont see so much "very difficult?" do i need to start playing other gametypes?

Also how is it judged?

Yep

Had a good few games this afternoon... installed some mouse drivers etc and had to reboot..

Now im getting "Failure to initialise PunkBusterB.exe" after 30seconds..

So i go and do all the shit recommended on the QL forums.. and nothing. Same thing

Any ideas ppl?

[edit] seemd to have fixed it, tryed uninstalling my firewall software, it worked, so i reinstalled and its seems to be ok now

Id like to just clear things up about that swe, We were both hammered, that bird is well below my usual standards, i know to use a rubber etc, i posted that journal when i was hunger over / still drunk.. and realise its not the place to talk of such things.. (yet i keep doing it.. sigh)

How ever the comments were funny as fuck so i got a chuckle out of it anyways..

Anyway ive actually been doing abit of console gaming while here, my friend doesn't wake up till 12.30 most days so ive been mainly playing Briad and Forza 2.. I tried GTA4 again but couldn't get past 20mins of replaying a new game, damn it takes so long to get going.

I also have been playing 2 player Golden Axe and Streets of Rage from the sega collection pack.. Which are pretty awesome when you've had a few beers.. (other recommendations for good 2player games welcome..from the pack obviously)


Ive just about run out of money here now and haven't even bothered looking for a job.. Mainly because a friend is coming out on Wednesday whos bringing me the £300 of which he's owed me for over a year..

So that will last me a couple of weeks, during which time i will look for a job (probably).. If not get a flight home and look for work their.

Off to get sucked out on Pokerstars..

Been in Cyprus for a week now

Internet sucks, getting between 50kb/s and 200, takes like an hour to download a tv episode..

Trying to play abit of poker too, connection is shit, constant freezes and drops are well annoying.

Using Chrome on my laptop for the first time, I think its pretty good, love the spell checker, seems pretty solid and reliable.

Don't think ill get rid of ff3 at home just yet tho.

So it arrived Friday, got a chance to play with it last night and i wasnt very impressed, the shape is good, but the buttons suck, i kept hitting the left mouse button while trying to shoot... Also it kept squeeking when i held a button down and moved it in any direction..


So its going back to play.com

The good news is i found my old copperhead in my sisters room and im using that now which i think is loads better than 3.0 i had before.. I cant even remember why i got rid of it, seems to be working alright..



I know id of gotten used to the Salmosa if i got it exchanged for a new one, but im loving my copperhead now and would rather have my £20 back :-)

So im handing my notice in next Saturday, doing my months notice and going to Cyprus mid April for the summer (or until i run out of money and bankroll)

I plan on going on my own and having a friend come out after hes quit his job too..

So it means im gonna be on my own for about a month, which kinda makes me think id get crazy bored!

Thinking of things to do to pass boredom..

Heres what i got so far:

Beach to swim/read and chill
wifi cafe to play online poker
Renting a motorbike/car and go traveling around the island.. (maybe going trudos mountains to see if theirs any snow left)
Jogging
Scuba diving

Been tinkering with Windows 7 for a while last night (through VMware, which is a doddle to set up i might say) and im pretty impressed! (speed wasnt best cus of vmware tho)

Task bar is nice, i like the new post its, i like the feeds which u can put anywhere, lots of things!

I am very tempted to give it a go as my main operating system, only thing is when new builds come out il end up updating it everymonth or so! Also im very happy with the system i have now (vista x64) but im abit bored of it!

Think 2mrw il back up my stuff and give it a go!

If anybody wants help on where to find it or needs any beta keys let me know!

Update,

installed this morning on my main system (and my only 1 currently)

Everything seems good, its very fast and stable so far (lets see how it goes over a few weeks)

utorrents working/firefox s'ok/vlc is working fine

Only thing that im having slight issues with is Ultramon, thats because m/s have put a send feedback work next to the minimize/maximize/close buttons in all windows, and ultramon usually puts an icon their to move stuff to different screens.. but u can still do right click > move so its alright, no loss of useability..

Task bar is great, along with the new explorer!

Next on my list is to test Q3 and see what fps i get!

update 2

Q3 wont load, get a error message after a few seconds of the screen flashing (like its trying to adjust resolution)

Tried removing config so it created a fresh 1, didnt work :-(

Any ideas?

She is basically my cousins best mate, who has been interested in me in ages, but ive never really fancied her (she isnt what i would consider cute or fit, shes definatly not ugly) soi decided to go out on a date with her and see how it goes anyway... (its been a while)..

Anyway after a few weeks of dating, i totally find her hot and she has an awesome body.. (she rides horses for a living) and we get along pretty well too..

Anyways

Been running Vista x64 SP1 for a couple of days because i was supposed to be getting 4gb of CL3 ddr2 ram from a friend (but that went tits up), so im currently running it with 2gb of ddr2 cl5 667mhz, but it seems very stable and quick, now i really havent played any games (apart from doing a timedemo 1 /demo four on baseq3 and getting a score ive not seen in a while [500fps+])

So i decided to order 4gb ddr CL4 800mhz for it, as CL3 ram is insanly expensive..

I also ordered a new case because i hadnt noticed half the fans in my case stopped working and i would preffer a HTCP case than a massive tower.. In the end i couldnt find a decent HTCP case so i ordered a li-lian midi tower which can go back under my desk.

This means i have an Antec P182 to sell, but it does require 2 x 120mm fans to get it working 100% again.


EDIT : Just stuck in my 4gb ram, no issues yet, moving the old stuff into a new case was a right pain in the ass.

Q3 timedemo now 667fps (up from 500)

I hope some of you have been playing this... Kinda reminded me of defrag when i first heard of it..

After playing it for a while, its actually really good and has sort of a pro feel to the movement..

Playground 1 is probably my favourite so far (time trails) as ive been competing with a friend..

My best time so far is 56.something and thats with a couple of small mistakes..

Best score possible is 46.something... which if you follow the ghost around fucking hard to keep up with.

Post your time if ya got one or your feelings on the game..

Ive had a week off work and im back tomorrow morning at stupid o'clock (8am)

Ive basically spent my week off doing...

Fifa 08 with friends.
Poker (holdem/omaha). (got my bankroll up to about $270 then Went down to $40 after tilting it off)
Went out on a Saturday night for the first time in months (i work weekends so i try not go out).
A few hours of QuakeLive.
Watched TV and films (one of the highlights was a film "The day after" made in 1983 about what World war 3 would be like..).
Checked out Leicesters new shopping center "High Cross" (which is pretty neat).
Bought a new apple mac keyboard (seksi as hell but will take a bit of getting used to in QL).
Drank about 24 cans of coke zero / regular
Went to view a few houses with friends cus i want to move out soon. (only for 6months or so, seems like its gonna be expensive, itl will be a good experiance for when i want to get my own place).

Few things ive noticed having changed from a G1

Its nearly 1/3 in size bigger than my G1, build quality is like not as great as the logi, scroll is crappy compared....

and quakelive is down :(

ps, ordering from play.com for £17.99 with free delivery took about 1 week 3days... which i thinks sucks compared to other online sites ive used. Id rather of paid £2.50 or whatever for delivery and got it with 2/3 days, wont be buying from their again!

Started playing on friday because i got ticked off with NL holdem! and i thought id give it a go...

I find its actually a much more fun than nl holdem, and have won a fair bit more money than i usually would playing a tight game in holdem.

I did however donk off a few chips when i first started playing!

Mostly thinking i had the nuts, when infact it was the 2nd (on the flop that is), but that wont happen again...

But im still a newb when it comes to omaha i guess, but i fink theirs alot of weak players out there and i can continue taking their money.

Installed a fresh version of XP last night, signed into msn (an old version) to chat with mates after, went bed and left my pc on as always...

I try and reset it, but my security question is just a bunch of boxes with numbers in em, and i have no idea what my answer is...

So i dont have a clue what happend!

ive had to make a new hotmail account so i can chat with my friends tonight, but its utter gay

plus i had about 4k worth of emails dating back to like 2001 or something, so im sure theres some security information within my emails somewhere.

Fuck sake. :(

basically, i want to get rid of the shadows on the map, the lights you can see, and move the hud to the bottom middle!

i used to have this with Q3 a long time ago, but cant for the life of me remember the config i used to use!

any commands would be greatly appreciated

After pretty much playing all day, my hand is killing me!

its mainly because when im playing my fingers stiffen up, so after a while it starts hurting my hand. I release i need to relax my hand more but soon as im moving the mouse alot my hand tightens and the pain comes back!

dont think its the mouse, because its kinda always been like this (i take brakes inbetween games usually, so helps the problem)

ive always wondered how the pro's play for so long without getting hand cramp or whatever!

Back from cyprus, slightly browner and slightly thinner (from being skint and hungry for the last 2days)

already watched most of the things i missed while away (battlestar galactica, apprentice, dr who etc)

one strange thing i never seen happen on a plane, is some fat cyprette decided to go for a shit 1minute before we were landing in cyprus, he barged past the stuedess (sp?) out of the way, who said we were about to land and couldnt go toilet, that didnt seem to matter, be barged past and went anyway, causing the pilot to sharply pull up from the runway and do another lap of the sky while this guy had a shit!

Having just come from vista back to XP (SP3) i decided to try and make my desktop as sexy as possible. I think ive done a fairly nice job. (simple but looks 100times better than what i had)

two months i quit smoking for!

I figured it was ok if i didnt buy em, now i figured fuck it, im gonna smoke on holiday anyway, might aswell buy a pack!

after my holiday im defo quitting again.. :)

oh, ive also booked my flight to cyprus last night, going in 4 weeks and i cant wait!

Ive been playing GTA (owns hard, i have to stop myself playing it) and also abit of trackmania <@:)

I would also like to play/watch some q3 (mainly the swe vs uk games as i want to watch jays pov on dm6 as i hear its awesome) but i really cant be arsed to download everything again, i guess il do it when ive got some time. (i need 1.32 and cpma+map pack right?)

should i use xerp? :-)
