Nah, Salomon did OK in the WCG 2003 Korean Finals; sure he got massacred by ForresT (hello? ForresT did win the UT2K3 tourney after all), but he did win two out of five matches, which is a "good" performance IMHO. This was after all, the first time that Colombia participates in an international tournament. I'm sure that next year we'll do much better.

As for the national finals, yes, it could've been a more exciting one, however it's obvious that Paganini was quite nervous and wasn't able to show what he was capable of doing.

AFAIK, none of the clans or players here are sponsored: pro gaming cannot be considered a profession here therefore you cannot expect to see a high skill level (i.e. a Colombian Lauke, Stryfe, GitzZz, el_put0 [hah], etc.) from our gamers. This is simply a glimpse of the UT2K3 world here. Then again, what do you expect from us? You simply cannot compare apples with oranges.

well i played against a very good player in q3 from colombia and some others in venezuela, dont remember name though .... but they werent too far from fist1 from brazil for example ... anyway i dunno too much from SA gaming ...

The Q3A players here are better than the UT2K3 ones due to four reasons:
1) UT2K3 was released in the late summer of last year. It simply hasn't caught on. I only started playing UT2K3 since last July and I'm your average UT2K3 player.
2) Just like the American and European gamers, most of the ones here are reluctant to switch from UT to UT2K3 because the latter lacks "something", not because there's a shortage of servers out there, but because it feels more like Q3A (which isn't true BTW).
3) As far as online practicing/matching goes, this is a very infrequent activity: there are only 3 home broadband ISPs and they cost quite a lot therefore playing with 200-300ms pings (your average 56k dialup connection) is ridiculous and simply not worth it.
4) Q3A has lower hardware requirements. UT2K3 cannot be played at 320x200.

In spite of this, don't give up hope! Sooner or later we'll have a worthy player in some game. ;)

Mr Anonymous : Are you too coward to register and back your statements? I bet you're a ratix lover, but guess what? Salomon beat ratix fair and square. He might have better aim and control, but if he couldn't handle the pressure of a small crowd in Bogotá, I imagine he would've crumble in Korea. You think you can take Salomon in a 1v1 match? I don't think so, unless you're Neo, Juano or Ratix.

As Zukeft said, the UT2 level of play in Colombia is pretty low, and it's understandable due to the fact that this was the first event of this size here, and that this country FPS scene is primary dominated by Q3. We have some players with tremendous talent such as ratix, killerpunk, neo, junglizt etc. Very few people know them given our lack of real broadband providers that allow us to play real matches with other countries' players.

Most of these Q3 players were the ones that took higher positions in the WCG preliminaries, and they (as me) picked up the game when the tourney was just announced (July).

I expect the level to go up for the next year, and for me i hope not to play that badly as I did in this year's final ;)
