I just laugh when I see stuff like that. This development cycle is true comedy now. Imagine working for this company and on this game knowing what an absolute farce you are producing.

wonder if these means they want to take their time with new features (we saw what happens when a small dev team tries to do too much at once, we get a barely tested buggy mess) while they take care of their core technical issues or if this means they stopped trying.

for as much as quake champions is not a great game, and for as much as id software is an ember of its former glory, it's unfair to say you got a barely tested buggy mess when asmall dev team tries to do too much at once. it is id software's fault that what you got was a barely tested buggy mess, but that's because they stupidly opened their beta to the public after being forced into choosing between fighting the community members who were involved in the private beta and breaking the NDA or just opening the game up.

i personally think that there was so much anticipation and interest in the private beta that id software "jumped the gun" and thought they could establish an early market. maybe they were pressed by the publisher to start generating some level of revenue? perhaps there were budget constraints that forced them to do so?

regardless of the potential motivations or influences for/on their decision making, the fact is that by making the beta public so early in the game, id software backed themselves into a corner wherein they were deluged by community opinion about a game that wasn't ready for public consumption.

it's not an excuse, it's the factual historical reality of what prompted the public release of the quake champions beta. i didn't say anything about it being "your fault". multiple times in my post i pointed out that it was problematic for id software to make the game public so early. id software had to act after information about the private beta was being released by people who were violating the terms of an NDA they agreed to.

They don't have the technical skills and knowledge to fix it or the engine performance.

They needed two patches to squash the speedometer bug, ffs!

And every other "patch" that's supposed to fix performance issues doesn't, and needs an "hotfix" or two to fix what the patch just broke.

Most of the lag issues are servers related anyway, and they're not gonna waste moneys in renting better servers now that the game is on its deathbed.

Expect the servers quality to drop further, if anything, until they'll pull the plug.

They already turned off several servers last month, now africa, south america and asia are fucked.

The Saber3d engine is rotten at it's core. It was never gonna deliver the standard of performance quaker's expect. It's a joke even by casual modern fps standards. No amount of beta time could fix the fundamental flaws of the engine. The project was doomed to fail no matter how they handled the community.

their problem is, they just need to push some smaller patches which fix some annoying gameplay issues.
ie.:
- CTF: score limit needed
- CTF: flag drag

... and more maps for CTF (content patches).

There is no capture limit, mercy limit, overtime, or sudden death because of the asymmetrical maps. To make asymmetrical maps fair, each team has to play on each side for the exact same amount of time.

Q3 has 20 years anniversary this year, they can rather make a tournament of that instead.

One can dream of them bringing Trent Reznor back, and adding other Industrial bands like Front Line Assembly, Al Jourgensen if they did a Full fledged SP reboot for Quake.
