showmatch after the finals seems pointless..

We have limited stage time and can't conduct a double elimination bo5. This allow us to have the finals that we want, and still showcase a great CTF match to the masses, which has always been popular at our event. And with bonus money on the line, both teams should still be fully invested in the outcome of the showmatch.

I suggest making the showmatch a pick/pick so both teams will be able to play their best map.

How can you pick/pick on a bo1?

Will the showmatch be a map from the map pool or a different map? That would be actually pretty exciting if it was a complete surprise, I find this usually brings out the best in players when they have to compete for something which they have not planned or practiced for and it creates some pretty good excitement for the crowd and stream viewers too. There is a large enough map pool in QL to warrent possibly doing this :)

They will play the Grand Final (including the 2nd set if needed, since it's a true double elim. brackets), and then another bo5 show match ?

The double elmin finals will be played earlier in the day. Then later that night when we have our closing ceremonies they will play a showmatch to show off some of the talent that was on display in the CTF tourney. The showmatch however will only be one map.

While the CTF Open is onsite registration only, it is not first come, first served. Good established teams will be accepted into the tournament as long as they show up to the event and drop by the tournament area during the sign-up period.

Weird lineup. No defender and gerppa didn't play in some time. Cant see this lineup win so easy with unshape players and no experience on the new maps.

Actually concerning Infinity.

We've had a lot of mixed feedback, no huge surprise. I'd like to invite anyone who would like to test various changes to Infinity to come do so. We'd love to have some quality CTF players come test it out and help us determine what changes need to be made if any. Flights are 1.1k each, hotel is 169 dollars per night for a room that can be used by 4 people. 4 nights = 169 each.
So the flights + hotel is 1200 euros per person.
Add some food and drinks and it'll go up to 1500 euros per person is my guess.

Syncerror, may I ask why ctf tournament is double elim and the duel tournament is NOT? we have new exciting players this year in the duel tournament, tox, strenx, dem0n, spart1e etc, and these players will probably be wasted on the single elim bo5 format, just like last Dreamhack.

Nobody wants to see a player like K1llsen etc get 0-3 in the 1st round against Evil and go out from the tournament, when they could be fighting their way back from LB. Did you miss this whole thing with epic comebacks being hype and exciting?

The Duel Masters is SE so that we may watch the entirety of the Grand Finals on the main stage at the shows finals party.

If we were to use DE, like the CTF, the grand finals would have to either be played out in advance behind closed doors in the tournament lounge, or have a conditional rule that does not allow for a true DE final, but instead a single bo5 series where the player from the winner's bracket enters the series with a one map advantage (as we have done in some prior years). This year, largely due to feedback from last year, we decided that under no condition did we want to have a repeat of the single bo5 series with a map advantage -- and playing the finals in advance and doing a showmatch for Duel wasn't an option that we were willing to take for the Duel Masters, given that it is finale of our show.

However, moving to SE allowed us to make all of our playoff matches Bo5 instead of Bo3. And our Group Stage format, like last year, will generate a large number of amazing matches before we even move forward into the playoffs. And at QuakeCon, players are not eliminated from the Group Stage, instead it is only utilized as a seeding tool for the bracket.

While DE would be great in a perfect world, the format that we are using, a Group Stage followed by a Bo5 SE bracket, still provides our players with lots of matches, and allows for a nice and fair tournament.

I hope you're right, I will give this format a chance, hope you haven't closed the door on the double elim bo3 format for future tournaments though.

It's not just me, Stermy for example said on stream that Quakecon 2013 was the best and most fair format that he had experienced.

Group stages may be fun but we all know it's the Playoffs where things gets real and the hype builds up.

Also, tbh you kinda did the grand finals wrong last year. The winners bracket winner should have ONE FULL SET advantage. Like in the Silent Gamers Cup 2010 where DaHanG came back from LB to beat Rapha 3-1, 3-2.

If I remember correctly, in the finals last year the player from winner bracket had a one map advantage AND could eliminate a map from the pool at the start.
I think criticism was mostly because of the 2nd part. It doesn't make sense that the LB player is disadvantaged twice.
I'm pretty sure most specs would prefer DE and BO5 finals with one-map advantage for WB player (but no map elimination).

Last years quakecon tournament system with seeding group stage and DE bracket is the best tournament format ever used for Quake in my opinion.

Only giving a one map advantage to the one coming from winner brackets is slightly advantageous for the one coming from loser brackets compared to two sets of bo5.

Showmatch is stupid. Infinity, Pillbox, and Stonekeep are bad maps. Why not trade any one of those for Ironworks if you're going to be retarded and change the map pool on a whim? Enjoy the tournament, boys. More than half the attendees will be inactive afterwards and only Clan Arena survives in NA. Viva La Quake.
