how exactly is the rocket jump different in ql? i can see you can jump higher and its a lot more forgiving with timing and accuracy, but how exactly in science terms does it differ from q3?

this thing got totaly ignored when ql came out, just like 5second weapon respawn.

q3 rocket jumps are way harder and much more satisfying when you get it right. ql rocket jumps just feel like noob mode where everyone can have perfect rjs.

rjs were just another aspect that you could train like crazy, master and be better than the rest and its gone in ql.

I'd say there are few differences between QL and Q3 regarding the rocket jumps (I'll compare defrag to race for relevance to the thread).

It's still fairly difficult to achieve the maximum amount of speed possible from your rj's.

Nice of you to post on this thread and be very negative. But tbh, I don't even know how I'm meant to be replying considering I found Q3 rocket jumps equally 'challenging' to QL rocket jumps. I guess you're just looking for a reason to hate. If you're not, then be more specific with what type of rj's you mean - it just sounds at the moment like you find it really satisfying rocket jumping to YA from mid on dm6 without making errors Oo

well i found q3 (osp) rocket jumps easier than ql, i fuck up easy rjs in ql that i never would have in q3 or q4

I found I made more errors with rocket jumps if I kept changing mouse. On the whole I found neither q3 or ql more 'challenging' to rj.. but I guess experiences vary

im just trying to figure out why ql rjs feel so much easier to me. its like the time window for synchronizing +jump and shoot to get the max height out of it is longer, and the slightly wrong angles more forgiving. im starting to think its because of the antilag in ql that i get this feeling.. or are my q3 settings totaly fucked?

I just felt this was all either hateful or assuming of something non-existant. I think maybe you find it easier in QL because you've just improved generally at the game? I can't think of other explanations.

yeah pretty stupid of me to say such things with no concrete knowledge.. and you know what, i went and tested this again on both defrag offline and ql practice mode and i cant really notice this difference that i was talking about and remember from when ql first came out. its weird coz i remember talking to people about it back then... i still fail many more rjs in defrag and cpma than in ql tho, again i can say it seems to be the ql antilag thats making me percive this difference.

I see what you mean dude, rj in ql is much easier and push ups are higher when at max.

on dm6 its easier to rj from ra stairs to bridge in q3 than ql...stair bug hitbox change/ that's my guess.

Don't see how that is relevant to making rocket jumps easy. Did you not notice what he said below?

you have to be less accurate on the new physics to achieve the same heights compared to the q3 physics.

if the knockback is the only thing changed than this is irelevant on new maps as it is all relative to maps.

im suspecting something else besides the knockback is changed also.

You can jump 10% higher in QL (g_knockback_rl_self = "1.1" / Q3 = "1").

Other than that I don't know, I'd say that I miss more rjs in QL actually.

I thought the RL knockback got increased for pql only? As far as I knew for vq3 it's remained the same, unless they've changed it recently.

Dunno, surely, but RL knockback and RL knockback self are two different cvars, I've always jumped higher in QL for as long as I can remember.

Well you mentioned knockback self, so yeah, it's what I'm talking about. PG knockback self got increased in qlive, that's why you could do endless PG climbs that you couldn't in q3. And as far as I know, the changes to RL knockback self are pql exclusive. Unless, like I said, they changed it recently.

Depends on what mod you are talking about.
In defrag there are specific techniques from which you can gain higher jump height or speed from rj.
Major example is the GB (Gaz Boost - explained here: http://www.q3df.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=202) which is a good example of speeding up with rockets from walls.
There are also different techniques in vq3 from which you can gain rocket jump heights beyond 391u.
Recently there has been a discovery that the rocket jump height depend on the wold axis that you are looking at.
Long story short, I guess there is more to rocket jumping that you might know

I'd love to have non-weapon category. And sucks that you can't run on an empty server (won't let you rup, match won't start). Empty servers because I prefer vql and nobody else does :l

Ya, although those aren't 'technically' dupes. They are from different attempts equalling the same time.

I mean duplicates of the same user on each map. 10x of one player, etc.

well, those are the best times. It's a list of the best times, not the best times per person etc

I've never seen any other leaderboard like that anywhere though, outside of an arcade machine and 3 letter names.

I know what you mean though, you're after the "fastest runners", not the "fastest runs" - two different things.

There's not really any point to having dupes though. Only the best time of each person is relevant. tbh, it only makes it messy and difficult to observe
