picktv had the best of SG-1 on everyday monday - friday for 2 years, had SGU on, alatantis is on the 3rd or 4th season, so that will probably finish in feburary, then it will be farscapes time

then when everything else fails, every channel will go back to star trek voyager and captain jane way

I'm embarrassed to admit that I watched all of SG-1 and SG-Atlantis.

They were dreadful really. The writing was always hopelessly derivative, unoriginal and predictable. The character development was primitive and the resolution of conflict overly convenient.

I don't know why I watched them, perhaps out of habit. One thing that kept my interest was to see what sort of writing faux pas they were going to commit next.

Was the conflict going to congeal out of thin air, or was the solution to it going to be completely 1 in a billion again? How far out of character was a character going to go next? Which latest box office movie were they going to try and imitate for the next episode?

they all contradict each other, SG-1 says the ancients transcended, alantis has ancients in and they got wiped out by the wraith, alantis needs the 9th chevrons to dial to, SGU says the 9th chevrons has never been dialed and they need the power of a whole planet to dial it and they reach the destiny

Atlantis needs 8 chevrons. And not all the ancients transcended, the pegasus galaxy became overrun by wraith, so they left for the milky way. There they could continue studying thranscendence, some makes it to the next level of existence and the rest is killed by some misterious sickness. Something like this.

to dial atlantis from earth, they need the 9th chevron, the ancients went back to earth, and lower atlantis into the sea, there is remains for 10,000 years

7 is needed for travel inside a galaxy. 8th chevron marks the target galaxy which is pegasus in atlantis' case. the 9th chevron had to be implemented due to the insane distance between the ship and the nearest gate in the known universe.

I don't always watch sci-fi but when I do I can burn through a whole season in less than a day. :D

if uk tv did`nt have the sci-fi on between 6-9pm on no channels, nobody would watch tv during those hours except for chicks who watch eastenders

Are there any good new scifi series? All I seem to watch are old Star Treks and sometimes SG-1. Everything reasonably new that I've seen is absolute trash, and anything brand new like Defiance is just insulting.

SGU failed because they have yet another crap ancient design ship, with weapons that last 30 seconds and drain all power to the shield, and they then run away if there is any kind of fight

so nobody will every know what took off from destiny when they first boarded destiny, at the end of the end credits

There isn't any. That's why I am watching Star Trek series right now. I had to remind myself DS9, now watching Voyager because I didn't have a pleasure before and will probably refresh TNG later because I haven't seen half of it. Maybe there will appear something worth watching in the meantime.

I've seen all the Star Treks, and they're all pretty good. Each one started out rather cheesily in their first couple of seasons though, especially DS9.

The original series was more homogeneous in that regard, but it's you know, the original series so it's pretty different from the rest of star trek imo.

Some of the movies were ok, some were horrible. Nemesis was so bad that I can't even bare to think of it.

I've seen TNG zillions of times, and one thing that impressed me was that even when the writing was really bad, you had Patrick Stewart's stellar acting and presence bring it up a level. Like he was so good that he could actually save really bad writing and have the episode come out half decent. Of course there were some episodes even he couldn't save ("Lonely Among Us" was ripe for something like MST3K).

I dropped TNG because of writing, some episodes were just unwatchable bullshit with no interesting stories. However there are many episodes in DS9 and Voyager that are linked with TNG so I will probably resume watching it just because of curiosity.

Well, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and even Enterprise all had plenty of cringeworthy episodes in their first couple seasons. Seems like they always took a while to find their footing, and bring in better writers. Shrug.

star trek always has 6 or so episodes, of testing acting skills, then a few always die, and new actors get promoted from the docks you never see

Lexx was pretty good, I recommend it if you haven't seen it.

I heard farscape was great but I never watched it so can't comment.

Otherwise you kind of have to go the anime route. Of course there are some decent sci-fi novels. Iain M. Banks culture series is pretty good.
