That's what I don't get. Why spend £1200 on a tourney you're going to rush? I say make it Bo3 rounds/quarter/semi, and Bo5 finals. They can get a lot more games out of this.

bo1 until semis, bo3 in wb semis and finals, bo1 in lb until lb finals, then bo3, grand finals bo5 with 1-0 map advantage for team coming from wb.

it will be tdm and rest ull know... but premium tournaments will be mixed in with regular tournaments.

regular tournaments will keep happening same pace, just hopefully this subscription model allows us to have cash tournaments much more often.

looking at the distribution of actual tournament players vs. spectators I really think companies should try to come up with a business model that doesn't rely on the players contributing all the cash. For instance I'd happily pay a small monthly fee to faceit to support their efforts but psychologically it simply feels wrong to subscribe to their premium service since I'm not playing actively and thus would not use any of the benefits associated with it.

They can't... cos nobody wants to sponsor low skilled people... This in fact is the only way to ensure everybody gets to compete in tournaments they have a chance of winning.

If you look at the model a bit closer, if you're not actively playing... you could win money in the one day low skilled events, which is funded through your subscriptions. If you place in a prized position... you can enter more tournaments with a cash prize and its only cost you your fixed fee.... This is much more manageable from a players perspective and provides more opportunities to win money than any other model.

Broadcasting is on the agenda, but we launched today... So do expect better things to come.

hope twitch will make soon some system that gives subscriptions really high quality and stable stream and some 480p or 360p for standard users. this will help to get some money to fund prize pools for tiny size communities.
And if this company will hold some BIG lan with best players and will allow only official stream ...there will be much viewers to fund prize pool and organisation :)

for example look at 125 FPS May League. Prizepool was $1,5k.
if there will be 300 subscribers with 5$/month that will give same $1,5k prize pool.

People will expect a very high level of "entertainment", and someone will have to make initial investments to make it happen. Since Quake is a niche game, and only a fraction of Quakers are actually part of the community, and again another fraction of that is willing to pay for your concept, that will leave you little margin to work with.

Yes, I understand your point but when you said something like premium streams with high quality like cable or satellite operators, then I think about things that are better than 125fps league.

People chipped in 650, but the 1st prize was already 729 so the rest of the money had to come from somewhere. Clearly paying viewers were not enough to come up with the total prize money.

The prize distribution would have been a lot less (but still pretty good for a tournament!) but your point still stands:

And this is exactly what ESA is going to do for you and they will provide streams, they would be crazy not to, so your idea of pitching in money will also be used to provide you with a nice stream. Not only will you get to fund tournaments and matches, but indirectly good matches will be created by the (hopefully) higher amounts of prize money which will be awesome to stream, because they are good, because there's a nice prize pool.

I think ESAGamer is like Kickstarter. A lot of people pay a little, a great things can come from that. I just hope there will be enough people buying subscriptions AND that ESAGamer doesn't fuck it up royally.

If you really insist on having something that doesn't revolve around players, and attach streams to that, but rather have something that revolves around streaming and try to get players to play showmatches and little tournaments then I'll gladly keep discussing this with you and would like to hear some of your ideas to get this to work, preferably without the streamers dumping in money before they get to at least break even (like non-profit).

if you, as a viewer, want to help out the same way you do to 125fps, you can also make an account on esa page and get yourself premium sub. i know it's not a donation and that it seems GBP25 wasted if you don't play, but if you want to help you can, no one is forcing you to play tbh :D

as far as 125fps goes, their head guy asked on esr for community help and got a nice response, props to him and everyone that donated, but that's really not a reliable source of cash for him.

I know exactly how the community will react when I create a tournament with 500€ prizemoney and you can only watch the stream if you pay 1€.

If I chose not to put down 500€ and organise a tournament with "unknown prizemoney" because that depends on the amount of paid viewers then no pros will play, resulting in a tournament not interesting enough to watch, resulting in 0 viewers, which means 0€ prize money.

If I organize it in advance and give Quakers 2 weeks to subscribe and pay 1€, and only those who subscribed can watch the stream then again I won't get a lot of viewers, because no one will know how many people might subscribe, so they think their little money is wasted (if for example only 50 subscribe that results in a 50€ cup). When the cup starts with 50€ a week later, only a few people will want to play because more is to gain with the FACEIT cups so they'd rather play that. And they also have to trust the person who collects the money so it'll have to be someone prominent. Would you let me handle the money?

I totally agree.

Teams will need to play a minimum amount of games before they show on the rankings.... once tournaments start to show for different levels of skill, people can see and believe how it works.
