High speed van crash in Russia (19 comments)

A speeding van in Russia loses control, hits a dirt embankment, and flies 20 feet into the air.

The driver of the van was killed and the one passenger is in critical condition with a head injury.

Not even the general lee ever flew that high I don't think.

Because since 2009, GTA4 has been used in driving schools for driving practice rather than actual driving in order to save money and resources. You need to register your computer on the database for the National Transport Ministry, then install GTA4 from scratch and once you legitimately unlock Algonquin, you can apply for a driving licence.

People have so many dashcams because you can actually upload your crashes to the Rockstar Club directly from your car, but you need to be a Russian citizen with an already existing driving licence in order to view them, there's a very popular Saturday Evening TV program "Car Idol" where the force of impact upon collision is used to qualify crashes, and once that happens, a panel of judges rate them on Entertainment, Hilarity and Number of Fatalities, and the best four rated ones are voted for via a premium phoneline call/text message competition.

I'd provide links to news stories about this, but they are all in Russian, and both Rockstar and the Russian Federartion's Ministry of Transport make you sign non-disclosure agreements when you become a participant, so that's why it was more quiet than usual.

Although I'm still surprised more people from outside of Russia haven't heard of this, I think it's really cool.
