I don't get the feeling that anyone really wants it, will use it, and the site will benefit. We have the irc channel and about 3 people used it in 2 years. Also, we have the 'iMsg' thing. Do you want the iMsg to just be live and more like gmail/quakelive chat?

ESR, overall, is very mature and functional. It's not missing anything in order to enable content contribution, and that's kind of up to the users.

1. yes some sort of quakelive chat for every thread would be nice.

2.agreed but a normal esr user only reviews certain parts of the site, as for me ql and offtopic. if you were givin the possibility to individualize the site it would be more handy. I am aiming on reddit here. where u can chose your favorite threads whos top topics will be displayed at your personal front page.

3.as for the mobile phone part, well i dont have the best smartphone but the site could be made more portable friendly for sure

1. are you serious? for every thread? so unthreaded comments in real-time without saving to the site. that would basically totally kill of the comments as content, the main point of the site.

2. i think we have these filters (http://www.esreality.com/?a=editfilter) from before reddit existed, and a bunch of people already use them. but the main reason reddit thrived was because of the single page where all he content was merged into a 'rated' list. the reason they introduced different sites was because they started getting unmanageable amounts of submissions, we are certainly not at that stage.

3. we have this http://esreality.com/wap/, but looks like it stopped working at some point, i'll look into fixing it, and auto-redicretion to the mobile version.

1 i liked the idea of having a chat. today i think that it would clean most of the troll (perhaps), nevertheless people would be less motivated to post replies => there would be less useful content OR useful content would be shared only among a small fraction of the community.

pay someone to redesign this, or get some community enthusiast to do it for free, also - a totally new cms wouldn't be a bad idea :)

this is a contribution based site, so no one is stopping any enthusiast from making a new ESR theme. if someone makes a better design, we will switch.

Any smart phone these days comes with a decent browser, why the fuck would one need an app for ESR.

This should be a pretty simple fix, add an "add image button" below post box, once clicked it simply adds an "file upload box" and the image is uploaded on submission and added to the post as a place image. Although the image would require approval, it shouldn't be any different that editing and adding an image.
