I was thinking of building a new PC but can't decide which to build. I've got about a ~$2100 budget.

Not much different. Just get a top range i5 and a 670 and spend the extra cash on getting an SSD and a 120hz monitor. No point in getting a faster CPU if the hard drive still takes long to load, and no point in getting over 60fps if the screen can't show it.

To add on to this, I had an SSD in my i5-2500 pc and it was really really fast on boot and loading apps/games. I transfered everything to a regular hard drive now and that shit is slow. Seriously can't tell the difference between it now and my previous Core 2 Duo machine (When it comes to loading)

The Ivy-Bridge is about 5% faster than the SB and is far more energy efficient. I'll probably end up going with the first build.

I have a 128GB Corsair SSD

I'll have it removed from my current rig and put into my new build.

I've got Battlefield 3 and Diablo 3 installed on it. Not sure if mixing an OS and games on the same drive would mix well..

It mixes well, but 128GB is a tad small for games + OS. It fills up too quick and you have to be bothered with deleting stuff on a regular basis.

haha well funnily enough tribes ascend has texture streaming, so it would actually make more sense for that assuming it would max out on a mechanical drive! Though when it comes down to the values i doubt it would actually make a difference, and since they've long added map wait time now also, i guess the answer is... nope! :D

I wouldn't buy an MSI board ever again. Had so much trouble with the brand before, motherboards, VGAs alike. IMHO look for some Intel boards. They may be not really overclockable, but dependable as hell; quality stuff. A top-category Gigabyte may also be an option.

You don't need a 850 W PSU. A reliable 600 W is more than enough. Seasonic, FSP, Enermax, Silentmaxx, some Corsairs, etc.

Also, 1 TB of HDD is not much. For me, at least.
Look for Hitachi - I wouldn't buy Seagate; too much trouble with them lately.

You may want to add an SSD too for the OS and installed programs. Much faster, than SATA2 / 3. The brand should be also Intel. 60 / 120 GB.

I agree on your points about intel motherboards but, this processors are made to be overclocked involving next to no risks with just a good air cooling solution. Gigabyte motherboards on the other hand, they have some bad behavior regarding how they interact with graphic cards. For motherboard EVGA and Asus are the best. If he got the money for he should go for it.

As for psu the best is to take this list : http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-sup...913-4.html Seasonic are well known to be the top.
