Short answer: it is crap.

No DVI-Dual link, so only 120hz in 1280x720, crap colours and contrast, super expensive etc etc.

Only good thing is that it looks nice.

Dang no 120 hz

The specs don't say it CAN'T do 120hz. In theory OLED should be able to run at pretty much any refresh rate.

Some guy who had the old 11" model said it could run at up to 120hz when connected to his PC. Not proven but it wouldn't be surprising.

The pdf says that the "panel framerate" goes up to 75 hz.

Indeed, which makes sense for a monitor aimed at video professionals (60hz = no way).

But since it has DisplayPort, it may very well go higher than that (there are LCDs sold as 60hz than can go as high as 83hz after all).

Just going by what the pdf says! For that price though I'd like crt level rates, but I suppose its intended market wouldn't have much need for that.

When I first saw it I looked around for videos or reviews on it or even a similar product. I couldn't find any. I guess such displays just aren't the kind of thing people review ;-)

BenQ, Alienware, LG, Asus...? There are several decent 120hz LCDs to choose from.

it does 120 in all resolutions! (up to 1680x1050 with dual dvi)

Ah right, I couldn't really remember what I'd read - Must have been that it didn't support 120Hz 1080p.

1080p + 120hz is the maximum DVI-D can do.

Otherwise you need DisplayPort which can go even higher than that (but not all GPUs have it).

But if the monitor didn't have DVI-D, (like the Samsung we're talking about in this thread) then yeah it would be limited to 1280x720@120hz.

Are you absolutely certain the new 23" samsung will be limited to 1280x720? What would be the reason for that? That would be a major dealbreaker

The Samsung without DVI-D (750) will be limited to 120hz@1280x720 unless you have a GPU with DisplayPort.

It's a matter of bandwidth, normal DVI can't do more than 76.5hz@1080p.

HDMI has enough bandwidth, but can't do it because the manufacturers have decided it should be that way :X

Yes it should work perfectly fine then but you may need to make a custom resolution or something similar (dunno how that works with ATI).

samsung 2233rz

Honestly I tried the Samsung 2233rz on 2 occasions. First I tried it and didn't like it, but since everyone says it so amazing it has to be good right? So I tried it ones again. This monitor is terrible and if you are satisfied with it then I guess you just don't care. I suppose it's good if you are used to a "normal" LCD screen. But if you play quakeworld with 160 hz on a CRT you will notice input lag and ghosting. It has terrible viewing angles as well, you can sit right in front of it and it will seem like shadows are on the monitor, things are weirdly colored. You can combat this by turning up the brightness, but the monitor is VERY bright and I personally can't tolerate that kind of brightness.

I have tried the BenQ, 2233rz and the Alienware and I thought the Alienware was the best. It had no ghosting and no input lag, the viewing angels and colours still obviously couldn't compete with a CRT monitor. It is also very expensive however It costs over twice as much as the 2233rz. What I am hoping with the new Samsung is that it will be pretty similar or hopefully even better than the Alienware, but cheaper. When I look at what Alienware sells and offers "Cheap" isn't something I associate with their pricing choices.

have you tried the LG W2363D? it has a similar gaming experience as the Alienware. i am also looking for a 120hz monitor and i heard that 2nd generation of 120hz were smoother than the 1st one (2233rz, VX2265wm...).

also looking for 120hz tft which will be used to play shooter in resolutions from 800x600 to 1280x1024. But i rly dont have a clue which one to get. the LG W2363D is atm by far the cheapest. Did anyone have the opportunity to compare the LG with a CRT or some of the other 120Hz TFTs ?

I have one and really like it. if there is a loss in performance compared to the crt it is negligible compared to the advantages of using a flat, larger, sharper montior than a crt.

I feel exactly the same way.

I only notice the poorer performance over a CRT in UT. Even in Quake Live I don't notice the difference.

1080p is just sweet, compared to 800*600. Its worth it - for me.

Also, the larger horizontal FOV is win.

yea, the lg is dirt cheap atm.

the acer/alienware/lg/benq 120hz 1080p monitors should have the same performance, more or less. afaik they even use the same panels(?), the benq has led backlight though.

i like my benq, the difference in performance compared to a crt in negligible. the benq has presets for 800x600 etc., i don't get why people would want that, widescreen pwnz :)
