Due to many events beyond the control of the Quake America staff, there will have to be some unexpected changes to the Duel Cup #1 happening on January 30th.

First of all, the immense amount of support that the first Quake America Duel Cup has gathered is very humbling, and yet also very daunting. We now stand at 68 players registered to play in the first cup, a number we never anticipated. With an average sign-up rate of 17 players per day, we are on track to have over 100 players signed up. Due to this immense number of players, the Quake America staff have decided that, at least for Duel Cup #1, the format will be Single-Elimination until the Quarter-Finals, when Double-Elimination will begin. Quake America does very much appreciate the support offered by the players and will do our best to allow everyone a fair chance to play.

Second is the issue of seeding. We had originally planned to run a completely objective seeding system by borrowing from the AGP database, and then everyone without an AGP rank would get a random lower seed. With the AGP database as we currently know it inaccessible, we have to run Duel Cup #1 on a different system. Seeds will be done subjectively by the admin team to the best of our ability. Please keep in mind we are only a few people and we cannot seed everyone completely accurately. The Quake America staff will do our best to provide an enjoyable environment for our players and spectators.

Thirdly, we will be closing the sign-up period on Friday, January 29th at 13:00 CDT. If you want to get registered to play in the tournament, get signed up sooner rather than later!

Finally, just a reminder that the tournament is still set to go down on Saturday, January 30th at 21:00 CDT, however the check-in period will start roughly one hour before. You MUST check in and MUST be present in IRC to be allowed to play.

On behalf of the Quake America staff: Good luck, have fun!

Owner of Quake America
