Sooo, I've had the beta for quite some time but I never got to try it until yesterday.

Graphics are really cool, despite the low polygon count, and the result is awesome. A friend of mine didn't like the cel shading (or whatever it is) and the more childish graphics when compared to DotA, but I think that sullen ambience suits the game pretty well.

I played with a little girl that looked like she came straight out of American McGee's Alice. She sucked imo, but it was fun, we won and I still got a few kills and assists in a team full of ranged heroes with a guy that managed to get killed 12 times in the early game. Considering the last time I played DotA was about three years ago, I think I did quite well.

As far as I could see, gameplay was exactly like DotA, just with different heroes and a pair of universal skills. It even keeps that last hit stuff when killing creeps that I always thought it was stupid, but w/e. If the early game is boring, maybe they should change the XP progression instead of giving players stupid things to care about (denying is cool though).

I don't understand why would they put universal skills (everyone had a nice heal and a trap) because it homogenizes the characters, but it looks like you'll be able to unlock abilities and runes the more you play and you'll have to choose before the match which ones you'd like to use, so it can be interesting if they manage to balance it well.

Despite being an unlockable hater, I think I can take unlockables in a game like this provided the match making is effective.

I haven't played HoN, but from what I've read the nice feature set is one of its strong points (LoL didn't look any better than DotA in that regard), although I dislike its graphics.

LoL has the advantage of being free though, I think I can convince my friends to play it more easily just because of that.

Has anybody here tried both? Any impressions on which one looks more promising?
