I hope you realize that the essential difference between Democrats and Republicans is the size and influence of government over the populace, not personal beliefs. A traditional republican believes that less government, less regulation, more individual rights, less taxes is more beneficial to society. Democrats are, typically, for more government sponsored programs to make up for a lack of investment in certain sectors and higher and/or progressive taxes. It has nothing to do with who is more war-mongering. Do you actually think someone would label themselves as a war-mongerer if given the choice?

The fact that the war and associated conflicts are tied so vigorously to the GOP banner is not based on what is traditionally considered Republican ideals but rather the surrounding political climate in Washington in both parties.

I remember the days that the US went into Iraq and the whole "Shock and Awe" thing being covered with as much vehemence on MSNBC and CNN as on FOX News and being praised equally by politicians on BOTH sides of isles because it was the political climate of the time.

I consider myself independent, because I can't fully attach myself to either party ideals - because what I believe is the best for the USA can't be either fully democrat or fully republican - and also the way politics are these days in the USA muddles what is really the underlying basis for each party. Political parties are now associated with a whole gamut of mindsets and personal beliefs that have nothing to do with how the government should be run or what social and fiscal policies should be adopted.

It's really a joke how people have had their beliefs and perspectives manipulated so readily by the media sensationalizing politics of our day. It only gives more credence to the world George Orwell painted in 1984 and we should all be mindful to keep our thoughts separate from what those in the media tell us it should be...

I know what you say. I know what the essential differences between Democrats and Republicans are. I am European, actually. I just happened to have one American parent and one European. I have lived in USA for a while now, but I am moving back soon. And from my point of view, people in Europe (Sweden) have a MUCH better everyday life. I am for more government control than it currently is in USA, because I can only compare to my country of origin. I don't know if you're going to vote or not, but of course you should vote for the party that is most - ideological - appealing to you. And not for the person.

Swedes are doing good despite of governmental control, not because of it. Both finnish and swedish middle and uppermiddle have terrible purchasing power compared to other EU-countries.

Everybody insured gets a) better b) faster health care in USA than here. The problem is the people without insurance. In Sweden, because of the congestion in crowded cities, you may have to wait in line several months, if not years in order to get surgery or even an appointment.
