It's a nice pad, nothing wrong with the Speed. It's very smooth, almost slippery, like there is some sort of coating on it. There also isn't any "grain" to the fabric. It's worth a shot if you prefer the low-friction cloth pads.

try a supermat and teflon tape
i didn't think the tape would help much on a plain cloth pad but it has a nice feeling to it - smooth and less friction

I have a Razer Mantis wearing out. I went to Fry's and bought the Goliathus Control (all they had) and ended up returning it the very next day. The material and craftsmanship is no doubt excellent, but it just didn't feel right with me. The friction was too rough and my mouse even skipped from time to time. If the Speed was availalbe I'd probably get that since it's the proper successor to the Mantis Speed.
