I think the principle is still awesome.
I mean that game had the potential to be even deeper than Civ, but they really dumbed it down so the "The Sims" masses wouldn't be frightened.
I suppose there might even be some great stuff late in the game, but I was bored after a few hours too.

What's up with lots of developers thinking games must be easier and easier and dumber and dumber :/

What's so revolutionary with spore? If you break down it it's basically the sims (in my opinion), with just the fact that you start as a one-celled thing and evolve. You eat, mate and make friends / enemies.

as far as I saw it, the basic idea was to start just with a few creatures and then let them and the game evolve.
Until those creatures form civilisations with diplomacy, wars, management and research.

and that would have been revolutionary, imo.


But the game they published really is boring, I agree.

I think it's a lot like Black&White, a neato concept that will appeal to kids and moms but the gameplay is too simple to even be fun once you get past the surface layer gimmick.

i imagine it being like 5 different games that you can play one after the other. and the switch between the different games is kind of fluent. but dunno really.

not fluent at all. there's nothing resembling evolution whatsoever. there's no traits being developed or improved, one minute you can be a horse and your children are pigs with wings. you just slap new parts on and voila. doesn't mater if you're a 3 story whale with a huge beerbelly, you slap him a pair of wings and weeeee he flies! yuck

they lied about cool features which actually arn't in the game
spore is a pos but almost no reviewers had the balls to say the game is empty, cause it has been hyped so much over the years it would be like saying "ho shit we were wrong about this game, we've been swindled" then their pride beats to death their humility and they just fake it, as usual

yea just hype. it COULD have been great but it isn't.

give it a year or two and the modders will fix it ala oblivion

the core of oblivion, its scenario, is bad ; and no mod will change that, unless they make a new game out of the same -repetitively boring despite nicely looking- graphic environnement

Spore is cool because it has nice:
- DRM
- Online activation servers
- 3-activations limit then you have to prove you actually bought the game before giving the right to install it again.

aye, the most annoying shit is that u can only install it 3 times. and then u have to buy it again. actually, u just rent it.

and u lose 1 installation if u upgrare cpu/gpu/mem/etc

Actually you don't have to buy it again, but you need to call EA to reset your installs, but it's still the worst shit in the history of DRM, was so with BioShock and is so with Spore.
