I use Sony Vegas pro 12 for video editing, and I capture the footage from either wolfcamQL or the quake live client directly. I use Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) to record the gameplay. I used to use audacity for voice recording but now I Just use Vegas for that unless I want to increase the gain on the audio more than Vegas will let me. I use Uber Demo Tools to cut my demos sometimes.

I don't know why you want "Effects" and "Text" as two different answers. Why would you use one video editor for effects and one for text? Any good quality video editor can do both fine.

You also might want to make custom graphics, so you would need an image editor as well. I use paint.net when I want to make custom graphics

Just do it like this, to capture video footage you want to use:

WolfcamQL
OBS
Uber Demo Tools

And once you have the actual video files you can edit them and all that using:

Vegas Pro
Audacity
Paint.NET

And it should be good enough for making videos. I barely use audacity or paint.net but sometimes its useful for when I cant use vegas to do something.

vegas forces you to have all the twat settings for every encoder so no matter what you do, you file always ends up being 20 GB, when anywhere else it will be 300MB with exactly the same quality

I've used that video convertor, it's pretty cool P0rt, but I disagree with you on the whole Sony Vegas aspect, there's still a shit ton more functionality and editing power in Vegas, if you've set up your encoding correctly then you won't have issues whatsoever regarding file size.

Each to their own, however the former you have mentioned is a lot easier to learn for newbies.

You can change your bitrate in vegas, but they do come out really big no matter what.

I usually compress it by re-encoding using "webm for retards".

I seriously doubt a product like Vegas does not allow you a decent level of control over the export settings.

If they are coming out large, its most likely due to a setting which you've checked to make it that way.

Post your export settings, and I'm sure it will be easy to spot.

I know that its my fault for the settings, but it doesn't bother me to re-encode. webm files have better compression than mp4 anyway, and since vegas doesn't support them, I still wouldn't be getting the best compression even if I fixed it.

if you have full control, you can make a movie half the size, with better seek time, no block in smoke and laser scenes and still play on your blu-ray player under your tv

i would recommend movie studio platinum 13.0 (sony) if your not up for spending the money for vegas. movie studio plat has virtually all the same functionality as vegas but just less effects (which i dont really use anyway)
