i actually watched more duel then tdm but because a lot of players didnt give a shit in duel because they rather wanted to focus on tdm, it sort of ruined a few duel match up.s

however i voted TDM on the poll simply because the duel tourney was so damn messy. i also enjoyed watching the close tdm games that were played around the semi finals and finals where with duel... it just wasnt as exciting this time.

duel for spectating will _generally_ always be better though :)

all modes are good. Duel though promotes it best. It is the reason why organisers pick quake again and again. It definitely gives it an edge. More than a decade has passed and quake has established itself as the de facto game for duel. It has reached to a point, where it is a category by itself (not just a game). You play quake, not pc games. There are actually many ppl who play quake and don’t play any other games (even toxjc is one of them). It is like you have table games and you have chess. In that regard, the game might change in future, but would never die or at least it shouldn’t.

Having said that, team tourneys should be played side to duel much more frequently and not only in dh and quakecon. I liked the dh tdm, because years have passed since the ql beta release and we didn’t knew yet, which team is the best. It took long time.

My personal preference as a spectator is:

duel > tdm/ctf > ffa > ca

I think that the only mode that I can’t imagine myself having fun watching is ca (ca is good though for quake, since it is the perfect entrance point).

This was the first time I have ever seen TDM and I enjoyed watching it a lot more than Duel.

I agreed with the commentators when they said it would be much better if they were able to spectate specific players without having to cycle through, and were able at the final scoreboard to get the in-depth stats of each player. For example, it was highly lauded that a certain player (whose name I forget) was able to get 14,000dmg, yet it was unclear with what weapons and accuracy's he did this.

u can bind certain players to certain keys, and the player who did 14k was silencep and seeing as its silencep, he railed it

I understand what you mean (and was aware of the ability to bind), but I am only re-posting what was said during commentary and I do agree that it would be a good idea to have some sort of GUI to do this.

Silencep indeed! And I beileve he is a rail-heavy player, so surely most of his 14,000 must have come from rail. But apart from this explicit example, it would be nice for commentators to be able to access this info quickly and easily during a broadcast...to add to the entertainment value.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the TDM casts and I hope there is more of them at the next streamed event, whatever it may be.

tdm is fresh and new, especialy with tox and good american czm-teamplay.

this time i enjoyed tdm more than duel because it was so hyped before and many players gave a shit about duel. cannot say that tdm is > duel normally tho + i think tdm can fail hilarously with fewer teams attempting / teams that cannot go (wich can easily happen because DH was unique as the first major tdm lan in ql + in europe, quakecon is another story tho)

t7, aero are fine. they can stay. toxicity im really unsure about - its either hektik or toxicity but not both imho! dm13 im not sure as well - it showed really great matches (and there is no other map without rail) so it really has its pros but its god damn OLD: (but so is aero :P).

its not the maps, its ql duel settings. no super duper map will fix that.

what makes u say that? adjusting the maps to the current settings does seem way more progressive than going back to old maps and settings huh

ammo system, weapon respawn times, spawn system, timelimit were altered to the worse. How should a map be to compensate for non-existing weapon control for example?

Although I agree that the ammo and spawns systems were better in vq3, it's not true that weapon control is nonexistant in duel. You can deny them to your opponent by positioning in a way that so that he can't go for them unless he dies/takes tons of damage. Rail on t7, hektik, toxicity, RL/LG on dm13, pretty much anything on t4, amongst others, are very controllable in Quake Live.

Thats more controlling weapon position (nmy can't get there), not the weapon (nmy can't take it because its not there). Look at t4 and how much RG respawn of 15 added to the gameplay on that map in QL.

quake dueling is complicated enough without weapon control, no need to add it really.

There is Phrantic without rail. Or Solid (which doesn't seem that bad since they removed chaingun or whatever that was).

But if i was to choose between Hektik and Toxicity I would go with Toxicity for sure
