Players have to care for everything on their own, but we can assist them in finding a cheap hotel/flights and in special cases last place pricemoney can be handed out in advance.

i think it was spart1e not dahang and it only went to the .za players, because Spart1e didn't need the slot and gave it away. Also it is not like that you can fly over and can participate. Asia must be your first residence and you have to live there for at least a year or will live there so long in future in a fixed job or university contract, else you can't participate.

i could go over and say i have just secured a job in robotics...cant show you the contract though cos ofc it is confidential

1st: $1,750 - zhibo
2nd: $800 - proZaC
3rd: $550 - Gosia
4th: $300 - fenda

how many go to the finals? if 1 then fine...zhibo will rape. if 2 then prozac can keep his $800...thats a lot of sake or a nice kimono for him but the 2nd space in the grand finals should go to gosia

It's impossible to compete over those distances.

In the end this rule is an extension of the same rule we use inside Europe; for example:
There is a team with 5 Dutch players, at least 3 of them move across the border into a German village. That team would be eligible to play in German competitions because the majority of its players resides in Germany. (Of course there is a rule that prohibits you from competing in 2 EPS leagues in 2 countries at the same time).
Likewise it'd be possible for players in 1v1 games to compete like that. If there were a regular rules ESL Cup for QL in Germany, PURRI (Swedish, but to my knowledge residing here in Germany) would be eligible to compete in it.

as people have repeatedly told you, it is NOT the same.

fenda and prozac live there, they did not just fly there for the tourney.
TBone is another example, he moved here and can compete here. But you would make him travel all the way to South Africa to be allowed to compete.

reasons could be: work, study, marriage, asylum, ...

we are trying not to lock people out of the extreme masters competition just because they don't live in the country or region they are originally from.
obviously it can become easier to qualify in a different region, but then again it is very unlikely for anyone to move overseas just to compete (while pro gaming is not their main source of income of course - it can't be denied that some professional RTS players have done it before, like the handful of American and European Starcraft players that live/lived to Korea, or the Korean WC3 player Zacard who lived and competed in Germany a few years ago).

Asia's player base for Quake Live is not as big and serious as Europe's or stateside's. True that there are many good players but there are hardly any local/online events to keep them involved in the scene. Atleast that's how it is in India. We have only one operational quake 3 server that caters to the needs of some of the casual duelers with only 2-3 serious about acing every game and that's it. No tournaments on LAN or even online have been even remotely heard of, let alone organized. We're already struggling for a QL server and that's how it is.

TBH, as long as there are gg's, I don't quite care whether they're the local lads or someone from the outside residing there.

I'm pretty sure it's him, and if it is he will surely give prozac and jibo some decent games if he has been active. I would be surpriced if prozac plays a lot these days, so it might become a bit interesting to see who finishes top 2. I don't think that it will be as clear as many think :)

the problem for players from japan or korea is that it is not that easy for them to get days off from work (in addition to financing their travel and accomodation)
the ql scene in those 2 countries is fairly competitive and quite a few players have signaled interest, but in most cases the hurdles mentioned above have been to high to take

these are total prize money figures. first place in CS gets 11K, which means $2200 per player for first place. QL is $1750. not much of a difference, but since this is a duel game based on an individual unit as compared to a team unit, i really feel that the player deserves more; $2000 for first would've been fair. i don't think i would've complained if, for example, the QL division was team based and prize for first place would've been $1600 per player.

but alas, QL is much 'smaller', than the others.

but i still hate WOW being there.

as if individuals should earn more than per player in a team. 1v1 is down to individual skills. 5v5 is down to individual skills and the ability to work as a team covering each others backs. it also makes it more troublesome for practice as you need all 5 online at the same time
