Looking forward (11 comments)
Posted by cloned @ 02:46 CDT, 14 June 2016 - iMsg
So I lived and worked in China for the last three and a half years and I am currently packing my bags as I will return home to Germany tomorrow. I will need to find a new job, new apartment and build up a nest for my family (wife, two year old boy and who knows what happens to the bloody Chinese parents in law...) who will join me later at around half a year. It feels strange to leave this place which has become a second home for me.

So why write about this on ESR?! This page has been part of my (almost) daily routine for 15 years. From a gaming point of view I have been most of the time inactive. I played Q3 from 1999 to 2003. Switched to QW and played from 2003 till 2008 (but did not put as much hours into it as Q3) and had a short period with QL (few months during open/closed beta). I sometimes followed a tournament when I was in the mood, but mostly I prefer to play myself then watch other people play.

Since 2009 I started to get serious into single player gaming again and said goodbye to arena shooters. Many genres saw a comeback through kickstarter or through indie-gaming. Not so good old arena shooters. When I heard Epic is doing a new UT, I felt relieved, even so I never actually played any UT game (movement sucks…). Overwatch, Battleborn, Lawbreakers and other hero shooters are gaining huge playerbases. These games are not classic arena shooters, but in my opinion a big step up over COD and other mp FPS.

From tomorrow evening I will be back in Germany with a lightning fast internet connection again which is not hindered by the great firewall. But until yesterday I actually did not know on what to look forward to for multiplayer gaming. Sure Quake Champions might suck in the end, but it gives me some hope regarding my favorite genre: Arena shooters.

Exciting times ahead, from a personal and gaming perspective. I like.

Posted by cloned @ 08:42 CDT, 14 June 2013 - iMsg
Hi there fellow ESR readers. I am currently thinking about getting myself a HTPC the next few monthes. Here is the current build I want to get:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-3770
CPU cooler: NH-C12P SE14
GPU: Geforce GTX 670 (Asus)
Mainboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H
Ram: G.Skill DIMM 16 GB DDR3-1600 Kit Ripjaws
HD: Western Digital WD30EZRX 3 TB (SATA 600, WD Green)
SSD: Samsung 840 series 2,5" 120 GB
Case: SilverStone GD07
PSU: Enermax EPM500AWT Platimax
Soundcard: Asus Xonar D2

Any advice someone could give or using something similar? I want to use it as a media station (XBMC) and as a gaming machine (Steam Big Picture).

Anyone else playing? Have completed the first few missions and I am completely hooked! Actually I didnt play the originals as I was more into Jagged Alliance, but it feels good to play some round base strategy again. Also nice presentation, only minor downturn is that you can see from the UI that it was designed for consoles. Still wont stop me from shooting some aliens ;)

My last general gaming thread was the shootmania thread, so I feel I have to make up for something! So much rage and everything!

Anyways, here is a free game made in RPG maker.

Hope you enjoy (have only played for half an hour or so, but good fun!)

There is a new competitive shooter coming out soon from the makers of Trackmania which is aimed at the esports crowd.

Here is a link to a preview by RPS:

In the preview it says it will feature rocket launchers, railguns and jumppads! Plus a level editor to create your own maps easily.

In this video it is described as a mixture between QL and CS.

Dont know what to think of it. Seems a bit simplistic. But at least with this and Nexuiz there are coming new arena shooters, which I think is a good thing.

InMomentum released (9 comments)
Posted by cloned @ 10:11 CDT, 1 November 2011 - iMsg
As the topic says, this indie first person platformer that reminds me of Defrag has been released today. Here is a description from steam:

InMomentum is a minimalistic sci-fi platform racing game that challenges the players to think in both horizontal and vertical perspectives while racing against each other or against the clock in a puzzle-like environment.

InMomentum gives the players the possibility to explore a visually unique world by having minimized object detail and a special focus on visual stimulation by the use of colors and shapes. The game’s style forges a strong bond between the visuals and the player, thus provides a very unique experience.

Anyone already got this and can tell me if it is worth the 8 euros?

Transcendent Man (32 comments)

Anyone else here has seen this documentary? I thought it was quiet interesting and def. an interesting person. Someone here mentioned this guy in another thread, forgot who it was though :/

Here is a summary of what it is about:

TRANSCENDENT MAN chronicles the life and ideas of Ray Kurzweil, an inventor and futurist that presents his bold vision of the Singularity, a point in the near future when technology will be changing so rapidly, that we will have to enhance ourselves with artificial intelligence to keep up. Ray predicts this will be the dawning of a new civilization in which we will no longer be dependent on our physical bodies, we will be trillions of times more intelligent and there will be no clear distinction between human and machine, real reality and virtual reality. Human aging and illness will be reversed; world hunger and poverty will be solved and we will ultimately cure death.

Hi there,

the guys at rockpapershotgun had a Rage special today. Only had time to read the singleplayer preview which sounded quiet ok. They also published a multiplayer preview which you can read here:

didnt have time to read through, but I think some ppl might be interested!

edit: Seems Rage will offer only vehicle deatmatch with up to 6 players and standard co-op. So no classic deathmatch mode!

First I thought this game is only about the name, ... then I played 2 hours straight :// ( not unlike some troma movies like "Surf Nazis must die" where you think this must be the most awesome movie ever and then it is a 90 minutes borefest)

Anyways, enjoy :)

Hi everybody,
I know the zombie theme has become quiet tiresome over the last years. Nontheless I think this trailer for the game Dead Island looks fucking fantastic:
No game scenes, but very bleak and well done. Anyone else play some zombie related games? Myself I am playing Left for Dead 2 from time to time and I am waiting for Dead State!
