I will watch it and pay money for it, and it will be alright; but I will have forgotten it the next day, because it's generic. So it won't be a bad movie, but it will be pathetic in comparison to the original. Take the shot depicting the street f.e. it lacks the genuine grimeyness of the original, it looks clean and basically like a film-set. I like Ryan Gosling, but he also seems too nice a boy for a Bladerunner who operates at the edge of society. Ofc I like Harrison Ford, but all those remakes Indiana Jones, Star Wars it just doesn't feel right let the old man alone.
It's just a money grab and a lazy remake it will not have an interesting story, becvause that has already been told and it will have all those embarassing puns in it. It's sad to see the old man been dragged into this mess!

Just for the record: I was wrong.Bladerunner is awesome. Probably one of the best Sequels I have ever seen of anything. One could potentially call it a masterpiece. Also good acting from blond Mr.Defaultface.

When I see White Tiger (Belyy Tigr) ie I feel my true call for soldiery and it reinforces my view on life and war. Mainly thanks to the fact that the main protagonist is also a male. I could not relate to it if the main protagonist is a woman. The more women you put in the movie to take away our roles the more you inherit our space to develop our personality. Not only that but you also confuse women giving them unfit roles. Things are not so simple and you are too stupid and undeveloped to be able to understand. Christian religion understood this well that's why God is in the image of father or husband in the family and this is supposed to be the model for the kids. Take away this and you got undeveloped and confused kids not knowing if they are woman or man and not making kids, giving the empty space to less "enlightened" people or barbarians, like the Romans called them. Rings any bell? "Refugees much"? This is so old already and all great civilizations of the past stand witness to this. Probably that's why you seem only half grown underdeveloped. Because too often without hesitation you took women equal rights as granted and you never had the opportunity to know yourself. First you have to look at what the film really is about, in a condensed sense, then you start from there.

What you are doing is lay out a worldview (fair enough) and then you see one little detail (the high ranking police woman) which runs contrary to that and on the basis on that detail you dismiss the whole
film.

Just like a feminist would do who might claim, that there are not enough women in a film, who could act as a rolemodel for a little girl. So I ask you, are you that little girl?

Even Hollywood admits it. The movie industry pays its actors less and pumps out product like a Twinkie factory akin to fast food. Hardly any creativity can be found, much of the acting and directing is regurgitated reused and produced as if people haven't seen the same shit 100s of times with only a couple variations [different actor, scenery, sexual conditioned responses] and all the while everything is being watered down and sanitized for the next brainwashed generation.

Take the war movies from Usa for example. Not even one hit war movie depicts any truth about how ugly war is. If there is a scene showing a United States soldier pissing into a dead enemies mouth, it is removed because the pentagon doesn't want the plebs to realize what war actually is. And sadly, pissing on a dead corpse hardly the worst thing that happens in war.

Anyhow, I'm done expecting a money making industry that only sells brainwash to make good entertainment. Because the mass majority does not see reality, entertainment is subject to entropy like everything else.

new blade runner movie was pretty bland. exposition is done through blunt dialog. it has all the standard sci-fi AI tropes. threads of stories are picked up and then dropped without any resolution, as though they're just there to make sure people know they're watching a sci-fi movie about a robot.

harrison ford switches from staring at the camera like an aloof teenager to bantering and fighting like han solo. the reveals in the story involve characters who are barely part of the movie. this movie literally uses audio and video flashbacks so that the audience will get it.

jared leto is overacting so badly that he breaks down the fourth wall without any reference to the fourth wall. he spouts biblical and philosophical quotes with the fervor of a white knight neckbeard defending a poet woman from a mob of poet men, and the only way to fight them off is with melodramatic delivery of contrived bullshit.

the movie goes out of its way to explain nearly everything. there is no subtlety, and the only reason it doesn't explain something is so that it can be exposed later in a "gotcha" moment a la the sixth sense, but without the natural buildup and character development.

the best part of the movie is the main character's hot ass waifu. the funniest part is when the main character bursts through a 10" concrete wall.

this movie is the epitome of contrived. also, the soundtrack is sci-fiey for the sake of being sci-fiey. it's also really really long.

there is something really wrong with the movie. and i do wanted it to be good.

1. no tension at all. zero. nada.
in the 1st runner you felt the mortality of the main hero all the time, hopelessly fighting with him against the higher beings. loving the impossible love. and how the chased replicants felt being hunted all the time. why would you feel strong empathy towards anyone in the runner 2049? no reason at all. no remarkable drama here.

2. weak characters.
in the original movie there were only dozen of heroes - the main hero, his gf-replicant, the supreme replicant creator, 2 of his workers, 3 cops, and 4 replicants. but each of them was bright character with some conflict (a replicant hunter that fell in love with one of his preys, the merciless replicant killer who saves a human life in the end, the almighty replicant creator who appeard to be just a weak childish old man, even the dirty cop showed some humanity, leaving the main heroine alive in the end).
and in the latest movie its the same minimal number of characters but not enough of them are barely interesting - everybodys just a cliche, well, maybe, except the main hero, his gologram-gf and his boss in the police department.
and because of their small number the weight on the shoulders of these cliche-flat-characters is just way too big. they just break.

3. the movie has no genre
the original was a clear noir-detective, set in the futuristic world of the sci-fi movie. the newest runner has no clear genre at all - its not detective, because it really lacks action and intrigue. its not sci-fi either. some pseudo-philosofical sci-fi drama?
without the good rules there is no game.

i agree with all that you said. my favorite parts of the movie involved him and his hologram girlfriend. the rest of it felt forced and formulaic. it was as though somebody studied the film and those similar to it, but they only grasped the aesthetic aspects, and not the meaning or soul or inspiration behind it. if the phrase "art imitating life" means that art is missing the vitality of life, then this is product imitating art.

i did want to like the movie and i wanted it to be good. i'm not some die-hard fan of the original, but i did read do androids dream of electric sheep? in my teenage years, and i have seen the original blade runner in the cinematic and director's cut versions. in the end, 2049 feels like a product that hits all the proper sci-fi notes as a study of an original piece.

why couldnt it be any better than this? they had the dream budget, the ability to choose all the specialists including actors from all the living species on the planet Earth.

they had the right DOP for the job. imho, the whole art-department did really well, however, they could be inventing more than imitating.

maybe the script wasnt near any good from the beginning and deny is not the exact right guy for telling the real epic stories, slowly building it from the start till the very end, while keeping its integrity.

It certainly has all the visual trappings of the original. Also, if you like Denis Villeneuve's previous works (Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival), then you'll very likely enjoy this one. He's definitely got a particular, identifiable Villeneuvean-style: long periods without dialogue, lots of wide angle cinematic shots on landscapes, heavy use of audio to build tension (especially when there's no much happening on screen), etc..

Blade Runner 2049 solidified, for me, that Villeneuve has become one of those directors who I'll immediately go see their film without regards to critical reviews. Only other directors that I currently feel that way about are Coen Brothers, David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, and Edgar Wright.

Watched this yesterday and it was really really good, well worth the almost 3 hours watchtime. Amazing atmosphere and nice throwbacks to the original, one of new released movies I would actually recommend!

In most modern films, I kinda feel forcefully rushed through the plot.
This often means it kills the immersion/atmosphere factor for me.

BR 2049 takes its time, and lets you really soak into the atmosphere.

What a meme. I know there were similar movies before (basically any action movie in the 80s or 90s starring Van Damme, Seagal, Norris, Willis, etc.) but ever since Taken (w/ Liam Neeson), these sorts of movies have been coming out basically weekly in the US. The only difference being whether the main character doing the revenge killing spree is a male/female, old/young, or black/white.
