love the teamwork from action. the only thing they lack is an aim superstar, like purri in xt, who will get tanked and dish out punishment, both in normal gameplay and as a pu runner.

This. They played lovely in case of teamplay, but they were hitting not so well. Nightops had some bad moments with his LG, it looked like he's using ball mouse.

Imagine action players having high aim accuracies, they would own.

Think it has alot to do with nerves aswell, not having previous lan-experience can really make you choke out on your aim.

Amazing final, the player cams were fun to see both players raging.

That little bit on t7 where Cypher dealt sooo much damage with shaft (as rapha jumps to mega and back to bridge) and then adds a rail to end any chance Rapha had for the next few minutes was sooo sick.

I don't think Rapha played as well as he could have but that isn't to take anything away from Cypher, he played great.

Cypher definitely has a brain to play quake, he is playing really nice, he's map knowledge and every corners are perfect. Meybe he isn't timing too much and we could easly see it when he played rapha in final. But he doesn't need time every item like rapha does. He complets he's timing gaps by his heavy aiming and good positioning.

Cypher, along with fazz, is easily the most creative dueler in the competitive scene. He picks fights that are awkward for most players, catches them out with their pants down and destroys them.

lulz, coordination (its not just running around together) like that is pretty damn hard and the sign of good _team_play and as tox said, thats was the strength of ic aswell

Hmm, have to disagree here. Toxic is, with no doubt in my mind whatsoever when I say this, the greatest tdm player of all time. <Kanye> Of all time.

He put together a team of players he figured would complement his style, and then drilled them on the strats they would need to execute in order to dominate. Take Stermy for example, probably the best outright raw aim outside of Toxic that I have ever witnessed. He lived in the US for a while and I would spec him playing pubs, just unrealistically dominating every game with sheer beastmode aimbot skill. He's the perfect player to put in a team and just have roaming the map doing insane damage and disrupting the other team nonstop. His tdm pedigree doesn't stand up to say, Fox, but his aim is equal if not better. Winz is another aimbot, but he's shown in Q4 that he can play deceptively careful and that is a huge part of really being good at tdm. Linkje is a proven CTF player who dominates with insane aim and incredibly smart decision making, someone who could really learn basic tdm strats without trying.

Toxic got all of them together and drilled them good, made them play solid strats on all maps, and they took it even farther by playing the new maps and learning them as a team better than anyone else in the tourney.

Drop Toxic into Team Russia in place of Mikes, and they win the tourney, easily. The only team that would challenge them in my mind would be colwn with Fox taking Toxic's place. I mean, IC recruited Fox for his beast aim. Aim has always been the number one skill to master in Q3 tdm. It doesn't matter how good you are strat-wise, unless you can cess your way successfully back into the game from a down, out of control position, you aren't ever going to be a dominant tdm player. When 519 was getting good and starting to compete on the NA scene, I went out of my way to convince Gator to join us, because at the time he was the closest thing to a battering ram aimbot I had ever seen, and I knew he could add that dimension to our team and put us over the top. It proved to be a smart decision, because he could turn the tide just by grabbing an RL and jumping into a room of weakened enemies and somehow kill everyone, by himself.

Colwn just owned everyone with pure aim skill, and to put a stamp on things they timed the items and powerups well too.

Sure, they probably wouldn't win against a team like QPO at the prime of tdm activity, but they had Toxic as a spearhead, so they always had a huge advantage in this tourney. If Fox would've played in place of someone on that team, it would've been boring rapefests. Playing with people unproven in tdm, Toxic at least kept it interesting for the specs. But still, it's fucking Toxic.. what did you expect?

Then toxjc wasn't imo the best in his team. It seemed to me he was the 3rd or 4th best player, after stermy and l1nkje.

You could drop stermy or l1nkje in Team Russia in place of mikes and would had won it (maybe even winz).

imho it was mostly the composition of players/types that made it easy to force a certain style/strategy of game

you have 2 defensive and 2 offensive players
you have 1 superdefensive 80% railer+45 % mger with stermy
you have 1 very very solid aimer with winz
you have the insane talent of link and the insane experience of tox
nobody really "shined" out of those, but everybody did his job for the team

compared to Reason where zyv, noctis and fazz are too similar in style (those 3 have to contest for armors and weapons in between them)
deus is a very welcome addition to the Reason team and just needs one weapon to defend himself and do BIIIG dmg

We've also heard of the special rush strategy of colwn. To just time a unified attack on an area and just take it over. They never failed. Look at the final match on dp: Reason got ONE quadrunner when it mattered and it was the first one when nobody had a time on it. Colwns lockdown on quad area from then on secured the win. Reason kept the score really close till minute ~15.

but the biggest fail by Reason was dropping one of their previously best maps and not practicing osp6. I hope the next mappool for an online event will consists of just 5 maps so we'll see better practiced teams and spray even more

why they did not drop hidden fortress is still beyond me.

The most annoying thing at tdm is the fact that the teams can't play 2 maps in a row without a 15 minutes delay between the 2 maps.

Just create or implement software for creating maps INTO QUAKELIVE.COM.


Have a specific page for making maps and saving them into quakelive database. Every account can create and save like 3 maps with certain limits for size, and you have textures given to you by id software, so shit isn't stolen or need to be checked.

Saving into id website automatically makes the map property of id software, no need to sign shit over or buy the map.

purgatory is great, but its a new map and people can play it differently with surprising results. old players would not want to risk it, instead of playing dm14 where they know how to play it and win.

well thats his point. it isnt just that we need new maps. its that we need tournament organizers to make use of them instead of sticking with old maps just to keep everyone happy in the short term. i dont see any reason why we had to have a map pool of 7 maps instead of 5 maps so we could remove 2 old maps. i dont see any reason for not including tornado either since they announced the maps 3 months in advance or something? plenty of time for teams to practice.

its cuz the maps being released right now are too little. If they had my idea, they'd be FLOODED with maps. Enough to pick and choose, no bullshit.

We'd have 7 all new good maps for all modes really easily. (guess i should jot down the obvious instead of just think it and not type it, so people can follow better)

Why do we need new maps? always the same with different games, ppl play the maps that are there cause THEY ARE GOOD, thats why ppl stick with em and there is no need for new maps cause usually 99% of the new maps sucks cocks

we need new maps because the old maps are so over-played that everyone is playing them perfectly, so it comes down to aim and random chance. of course the new maps are supposed to be better.
