Be careful, it can work but there is a big chance it won't through HDMI, I have read that some people were able to output 120hz with HDMI with an hdmi dvi active adapter and stuffs like this but not in native resolution when I saw it. HDMI 2.0 can do it, but there is no HDMI 2.0 yet on the market ='D

There shouldn't be any problems. Running 640x480@120 through VGA is the same amount of information as running higher res with lower refresh. I have intel HD4500GMA and it runs at 120 and 160Hz
edit: I know nothing on nvidia optimus though. And HD4000 is probably not enough to run ql at stable 125 fps as mine gfx is just enough (not on all maps and not in 4v4).

Bring your laptop with you to the place you want to get the CRT? What else is a laptop there for, ha.

And educate yourself on configuring your OS/graphics driver for high refresh rate. I tried on linux and win xp and it was non-trivial in both. CRTs usually don't have 640x480@120Hz in their EDIDs.

win7 + nv control panel - it i easier then go shit in the morning, just create custom res with desired Hz and resolution.

So your solution is upgrading to win7 and GeForce gfx?

Yes you can 250 FPS + 120hz (I don't know your monitor) through VGA.

i have gt540m , and benq lcd. I run @ 120hz @ vga with any tweaks, but just in 640 , 800 and 1024 res. With crt, you can run, whatever you want hz on whatever res, depends on crt performance.

i have acer GD235HZbid 120hz lcd. if I got a microsoft surface pro 3 hooked up to it with a minihdmi-dvi-d or minihdmi-hdmi-dvi connector sequence would it output at 120hz? google does not seem to provide fruitful results with this specific monitor

If the gfx card is 120hz capable / 3d-ready then yea probably, otherwise nope. And I'm guessing 'nope'.

CRT ftw do it. NVidia allows you to make a custom resolution, so you should be able to get / do whatever you want. I miss mine.

Intel allows you to do so and it works due to switchable graphics.
