The "realm" box is indeed intended for focus testers. Come in the focus IRC channel and I'll tell you what you have to put in there :)

Now, the issue here is. Predathor has to use his localhost IP to test out his own script so he mistakenly made the script to run on Localhost. So unless you have a scripts/extraql in your home-server it won't work.

Now instead of wasting countless hours of fixing his script, we'll just do this.

I was having an issue with scripts and the whole script itself not working until I changed this. Then it all worked, you're welcome!

The local host IP (127.0.0.1) is there on full purpose. This port is hosted by extraQL.exe and hook.js will first try to load scripts from your local instance.

If there is no extraQL.exe running on your machine, it will fall back to my beham.biz server where I have a public instance running. There is no 24/7 guarantee for that and when my server fails, your hook.js can't load any scripts.

I guess the real cause was some character encoding / UTF-8 byte-order-mark issue with the hook.js file, which got fixed by your editor, when you saved the file again. The change of the BASE_URL should not have been necessary.

My friend messaged me saying he was having issues starting it up, he said he used extraQL first and it didn't work then he manually updated the hook.js and then tried again, still nothing. Then he said he instead used the launcher and noticed a message saying that it didn't load because it couldn't connect to extraQL's server.

I don't know what happened there, but after I did that for him it seemed to have worked.

My apologies, I should've read the Wiki but he came to be randomly about it. I'll revert the changes on the file and see if it still works. Thanks for responding!

EDIT #1: I just quickly changed the file and it says that there's an error connecting to the server on his screen.

The script works, but every time I launch it or quit I get the error:

So far i've only seen that happen under Linux/Wine when there was more than one extraQL Window open.

If this keeps happening, try deleting C:/Users/myname/AppData/Local/ExtraQL

In Version 0.106 settings are now stored in a .ini file in the same directory as extraQL.exe.

I have no idea why the default .NET method doesn't work for you, but that should fix the problem.

My virtual server was offline for some time today due to a system malfunction at my hoster's site. If you didnt run your own instance of extraQL.exe, userscripts failed to load.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience and will try to find a way to make the system more robust.

Now the good news:
- Layout Resizer script is now working fine (resizing chat, server browser, pushing stuff from center to the side when the window is small, ...)
- QLRanks.com Display script allows you to click on the scores in the server details to open the QLRanks profile page in your browser

yes, the .exe doubles as a laucher and script-server for QL.

Here's a brief overview of how it works:

hook.js loads the scripts from the HTTP server built into extraQL.exe. It will try your find one on your localhost first, and if there's none, it will connect to my server. If that one is down too...no scripts available.

When extraQL.exe is started, whether by you on your machine or me on my server, it will update its "scripts" directory with the latest script versions on sourceforge.

After that, the .exe delivers a script inventory and the script files to hook.js when requested.

That's impossible.
The Javascript sandbox prohibits any scripts (including hook.js) from accessing your file system. The only way to get scripts and data into the sandbox is by requesting it from a server. And even there are dozens of security hoops.
I'm lazy, I'm not making this more complicated than I have to.

That's OK. I'd rather wait (forever) for a well-made manager by someone competent than use something as lazy, unreliable, and hacked together as this.

Also, for some reason I can't record demos anymore with extraQL opening up Launcher.exe. It seems like it messes up some permissions for the subfolders in /home/baseq3. Anyway, no extraQL for me until all these bugs are fixed.

I dont know where you get your ideas from, but extraQL doesn't change ANY folder permissions.

I guess you are having trouble to play back demos, when you start in windowed mode and a script switches to fullscreen.
This is a bug in the QL engine.

Just make sure you are already in full-screen when you start the demo. If you want to watch demos in window mode, either disable the "Game Start AutoExec/FullScreen" script, or change the settings under "Userscripts / AutoExec".

I already added client-side script caching, so in case no server is available, it will use whatever version you last received. Some scripts that require online access might not work properly though, if there is no extraQL.exe server available (either locally or remote)

also shouldn't a lot of these scripts be default? like autoinvite, friend commands, chatbeep, or qlranks? a lot of people don't know how or can't be bothered to look at each script to enable and these being default would improve QL a lot.

I've heard that some users have problems with QLHM/extraQL and need to /web_reload. From what I heard so far, QL seems to not start the hook.js file under certain conditions. That's code inside the game engine though, where I dont have any control over.

The first time extraQL is started (when no configuration is found), it will enable all the scripts. After that, it will remember which ones you selected.

It's possible that scripts got deactivated while my server was offline. Starting with extraQL/hook.js 0.106 this shouldn't happen anymore.

I have to /web_reload as well to get the hooks to work. This is what I have noticed...

If I completely restart extraQL and login again the hooks work, but if I leave extraQL open and log into QL again I have to /web_reload to get the hooks to work.

At one point I created a one-line "hook.js" that simply outputted a message. Sometimes it ran, and sometimes it didn't. My best guesses are that there is either: a bug in Awesomium (what QL uses for the Web stuff in-game), an issue with how it's being used to inject the script, or some other JavaScript sporadically causing problems.

*edit* Actually, I dug up what I used and was mistaken. Here was the code:

Sometimes "main_hook" (the "official" QL injection point for custom JS) was called, setting the value to "foo2", and sometimes it was not. Perhaps some other JavaScript is sporadically causing problems.

The program is awesome and I like the extra tabs for twitch, esr, etc.

I usually use http://quakehub.com/ when looking for streams or VODs.. is there any plan (or would there be interest) to provide some integration with this site directly in extraQL?

No plans. It's a great site indeed, but I don't see how an integration should look like. Live stream and VODs are already in the Twitch tab.
If you miss stream archives or VODs from certain channels, you can edit the scripts/twitch.usr.js file and add the channel names. I only put channels in there that are Quake-only.
(Modifying scripts only works if you use extraQL.exe locally on your PC)

taskset 0x01 wine /home/user/.wine/dosdevices/c\:/Program\ Files\ \(x86\)/Quake\ Live/Launcher.exe
to force it to use one core.

right now i'm starting extraql.exe first and then separately run the launcher after that to get the scripts to work. is there a different way to achieve this?

I could remove the File.Exists(...) check for the entered path and just run whatever is in the text field as a command line.

I prefer that people use the .exe for many reasons:
- it keeps hook.js updated
- it loads the scripts from the local HDD, which avoids connection problems
- web requests to external sites (like ESR) are sent directly from your computer and not tunneled through my server (which again avoids connection problems and CPU/network load on my server)
- you have a local, readable copy of the scripts and can modify them if you like (b/c most scripts don't have a config dialog)

uh, why? you said hook.js can't pull things locally, but esr/twitter aren't local anyway.

Like any web browser, the javascript sandbox inside QL enforces the so called "same origin policy" that prevents javascript code to load data from any other domains than its own origin. The QL engine executes hook.js and indirectly all userscripts with an origin domain of "www.quakelive.com".

There are a few ways to overcome this constraint, but all of them require explicit help from the targeted webserver. One such technique is called CORS (cross origin resource sharing), where the target web server must explicitly tag the returned data with a special HTTP header field, otherwise the javascript sandbox will block the result.

The ESR website does not send that header, so hook.js cannot directly pull data from ESR. The ESR userscript will therefore ask extraQL.exe, which runs outside the sandbox, to load the data on its behalf. extraQL.exe does send those HTTP headers, so the script can receive the data.

Lots of hoops to jump through...

hook.js cannot load files from your HDD nor can it load data from arbitrary websites. That's where extraQL.exe jumps in - either locally on your PC or on my webserver (which is not considered arbitrary because it allows access by sending the CORS HTTP headers).
hook.js uses extraQL.exe to get
- a list of available scripts
- the script source code that will be executed
- the latest hook.js sourcecode from sourceforge to check for updates (but it cannot update itself b/c it has no access to your file system)
- relay HTTP requests to servers which do not support CORS or JSONP (like esreality.com or sourceforge.net)

The "Window Docker" script also uses your local extraQL.exe to resize/relocate the QL window based on your windows desktop size. That stuff requires calls to the Win32 API, which is not possible from within javascript.

While javascript cannot access your file system, HTML5 provides a so called "Local Storage" system, that allows javascript code to store data (not files) on your PC. That's the stuff inside the QL "home/Local Storage" directory. Newer versions of hook.js use that local storage to cache the last received script list and source code, so in case my server is down, it will use those cached scripts.

this will not be of your concern right now, but the extraQL launcher looks horrible in wine. three out of four checkboxes have nothing but gibberish next to them (the one for focus works), the "Advanced" one works after a mouseover. i'm also unable to close it using the X.

Version 0.109 now has the new option "Run as Command Line" under "Advanced". If it is selected, extraQL will start Launcher.exe via the entered command line.

The complete change log:
- automatically click on "Play" in the QL Launcher
- allow user defined command line for starting Launcher.exe
- removing eventual read-only flag before updating hook.js
- activate already running extraQL.exe when a 2nd instance is started accidentally

Uhm, 1.4 broke something and I'm getting this error msg:

System.Security.CryptographycException: The specified network password is not correct.

Then 30 more rows of error codes.

Probably want to switch back to 1.3 for now. That error message is related to the addition of HTTPS support.

This problem seems to affect Windows XP and 2003 only.
I already found a workaround and will add that to version 1.5.

I will also add an auto-update for extraQL.exe itself, so that in the future you dont have to download every new .exe manually. This is still work in proress though.

Nope. That was on Win7 x64. Good work overall, but please test it once or maybe twice before releasing a new version every day...

It's not like that I don't test what I'm doing... but I don't have a QA department nor the resources or time to test the program on every conceivable system configuration. I started 1.4 probably 100 times during development, without any issues on my Win 8.1 or Ubuntu.

1.5 is now available with the mentioned Crypto-API fix for XP/2003. Please let me know if that solved your problem.

Tested it now on Win8.1/64/German, Win7 Ultimate/64/English, WinXP SP3 32/German and Ubuntu 14.04 on 3 different machines - all working fine.

Nevertheless I made some changes in 1.6 which should help you. I'm no longer initializing the Crypto API when not needed (e.g. HTTPS off) and I also added a parameter to the init call, which might(!) do the trick.

Can you please try and start 1.6, enable and then disable HTTPS again? Are you getting an error message in that case?

Ok, I found the problem. Obvious to some, but anyway, you can't run the .exe (or any exe) in any %APPDATA% folders or subfolders. I was extracting it in /baseq3. Palm-to-face.

There's a bug in the QLranks script though, when I try to /elo shuffle! it displays to optimal teams, but uppon trying to swap players around it yells 'unknown cmd undefined' and thus doesnt work.
I am opped while trying to do this.
