Someone organize a new weekly cup without prize money!

who will play it than without prize money? The "pros" will probably say: no money, no play.

It seemed to be the exact same people winning every week and yet still gained ALOT of players

for me,the reason of "not much players signed-in" is the fact that the cup starts early, i mean,its sunday, people usully pass the whole night watching T.V or playing some games till (maybe ? ) almost morning,so some people will not have the chance to play in the cup cause it starts at 13 CET.

this is just my opinion.

Refer to Guild Wars 2, which has been hyped for seven years now. No mistake was made, but your opinion must mean a lot to 2GD.

I'm talking about an FPS game that people take seriously, with competitions and cash prizes in mind.

I 100% support reborn so don't get me wrong there and it's not 2gd I'm doubting.

At this point we can only play the waiting game and let time tell. I do think this will be the last hope for the genre, hinging on the expertise 2GD has with the scene and the community. Honestly, if he can't make it work, I doubt anyone can. I'll put all my support into this game while I can, because I also believe it to be the last game of its type I'll play.

2GD is really passionate about it so I'm sure that we will have something to play with much earlier.

that will only happen if the game sucks. dota2 is great, and it was hyped for a looooong time before it was actually released

I understand what you're saying, but you're comparing the success of a moba game with an fps game. They are different genres and attract different people. You cannot compare them.

I never even thought about zotac with this update. Most of the pre grid stages are played on public servers and on ztn/dm13. Oh noes :(

Online cups WITH PRIZE is very important. Who trains and plays more, wants to TEST their strengh. Friendly games and cups without bigger prize is worthless to test who is realy better.

I can't see why prizes are so important.
There are lets say 70 sign ups, and usually 68 of them haven't a chance to get the 100 euros anyways. So lets say cypher and agent drop because of no prize money, still a good cup!

we had already 1000 cups without prizes, noone cares about them, ~15 max players singin..

yeah, that really motivates people that run cups to throw some cash in :D

ITS MY OPINION, so..

After 12 years of Q3/QL for fun cups and friendly games are not fun anymore. These games was fun back in days, not now. back in ~2002-2004 playing random pub games against players like zamuz , fazz, cooller , fooki was like tourney, you tryed your best, to get as much frags as you can. I feel fun playing Quake just in cups, or if i don't play it like 2-3 weeks and I FEEL LIKE I WANNA FEW FOR FUN GAMES. Playing for fun cups/pracc games I never show all my best moves and tricks, so If i lose, I feel akward. Even small prize makes you TRY harder and I TRY HARDEST when I feel other player trying hard too. When you are lower skill player, winning friendly game, forfun cup against better players feels already like a prize. Etc I ejoyed playing strenx in friendly games becose: HE ALWAYS TRYS EVEN IN FRIENDLY, HE IS BEST ONLINE, so it's fun to test you skill.
I could play noprize cups if it was some promoting cup, some invation cup and so on, becose it makes it a bit more competetive.

Sometimes I join random pub server and playing random guys, I feel like they trying and I feel they have fun fraging me, playing close games, chatting with me, I know how they feel, I did same as I wrote above, pub games with better player feels already competition.

Didn't we all see that coming anyway? I'm not surprised at all tbh.

Maybe id needed a reason to close quakelive.com down for good, they are tired of losing money I'm sure. Maybe they floated zotac a bit of dollas to shut down as well, end this as quickly as possible. I don't quite see how this patch could possibly bring anymore activity to this game, or any type of profitable revenue. Sure they might get a few more premium/pro subscribers, but I can't imagine anything near the amount they want. With so many players just simply not playing/viewing their ads directly from this patch, I just can't fathom anything positive coming for quakelive. Although, other than the incredible and significant changes they made to standard, I do think this patch is pretty nice.

This could be the fact that the new update and subscription bit is affecting how the tournament would run or it's just not financially viable for zotac to continue to support it anymore.
I had a quick look through the numbers of participants on the zotac page and they seem to be pretty consistent over the last few months (between 70-90 a week) so it can't be that, the new update might make those numbers change obviously but it's a bit premature to stop the touraments based on that, if it is.

This ABSOLUTELY sucks. I barely play quake any more but I do enjoy watching it. I prefer to watch quake duel over any other sport. Zotac offered the only semblance of serious competition. Now there will be nothing to watch.

I think its weird that they make this decision when there is usually around 3k unique viewers every Zotac....

All the MOBAs provide that easily with the same investment, so I was surprised they supported Quake that long.

I will sign up for the last zotac (I hope more will do the same) as thanks for all the contributions and tournaments they have made for the community. I also agree to what some said that the starting time it's in general very early and even if started 1 or 2 hours later it would have made a bigger difference in general I think.

I personally think they should have taken a 'summer' break to make it more special again when people are back from holidays. In general you will have a decrease in numbers during these months as you have to take a break sometimes if you play this game year after year.

If half the people gutted its stopped had actually signed up every other week it wouldn't have stopped.

Compared with other games the Zotac player pool is tiny, fair play they kept this up as long as they have and didn't bail with g-data, they have been loyal so far but its the right decision from their perspective.

Quake 3 will always be my favourite game because it was my first and because it achieves a balance and a high level of game play that I haven't found anywhere else, but with shitmania/ps2/csgo and what ever dire generic bf/cod game coming out its never going to be worth while for a company to put money into a QL tourney sadly.

Its up to the active community to keep the game afloat - if you love quake you will still play with no prize money.

Sure most people will play if a good weekly tourney is organised. But who could organise a good and orderly tourney every week like zotac has done?

Trackmania 2 canyon got "dropped" actually. well, not "dropped", it just stopped because it was a partnership limited in time (6 months) between nadeo-ubisoft and Zotac.
