All those mice mentioned have shitty shapes (except DeathAdder). I've tried them. I'm curious to see reviews of the Ikari mouse though.

Sujoy must update some "old" mouse reviews also. For example:

* Deathadder with the lastest firmware ( 1.25 atm) w/without drivers. With 1.25 some users report + accel, maybe and optional 1.10 review will be needed.

* G5 v2 or G5 with a firmware 1.2.

Also he must add to the review, some parameters like "lift off distance", "Friction index with the mousepad surface"...

i have an MX518se, it's red, and it's not even on the logitech website!
as far as i know, it's the same as the original, except for that it's red
still 1600dpi, same everything, nothing different that i could tell.

I stole Lukreks nail varnish and painted mine, so i too have limited edition red mx518

I just bought one to...It's solid glossy red and says "MX518 SE" on the box. I guess it means special edition or maybe second edition? Also the box says 1800 DPI.

I'm not sure, but I like it so far. If you install SetPoint, you can set the DPI to 2000. (which is weird because the box says 1800 DPI)

I picked it up at Target for $39.99. They had the Grey/Silver MX518 at best buy...but it was $54.99. Besides color, it's exactly the same. So I went with the cheaper MX518SE.

Has anyone else picked it up? or see it in store?

The previous mousescore was enlightening as I was one of those ignorant customers given to advertising of Logitech's laser mice. Basing off of ExtremeTech's reviews, I bought the Logitech G5. But, I never knew how these reviewers would base their opinions rather than through subjective feelings. Thanks to Sujoy I'm going to buy the MX518. I've never been a high-sensitivity player,

I'm looking to buying a mouse but there are all these new mice and I don't have the slightest idea how they do because everyone who gives advice has only tried one or two of the mice =[

I am a newbie in mice, so I am just reading reviews. After reading some good reviews about the SteelSeries Ikari I bought it. And I am really happy about I bought it. The mouse is performing good and it is what I like.

It's not like too many mice need to be tested atleast from my perspective:

-Anything laser I don't need to see tested because they will never beat the performance of optical ones.

-Anything shaped like a brick from the future I don't need to see tested since you have to be able to hold a mouse to use it.

-Anything that uses a sensor already used in other mice that have already been tested

And so going by the first rule that leaves these mice untested:

Ikari optical
MX518 1800cpi
Diamondback 3G
Probably some stuff from A4tech and other Asian companies

But I know I don't like the Diamondback shape, and I have used G5's and MX5xx's and their shape is worse than what I'm using now so those guys are gone by the second rule

And then the Diamondback 3G and Ikari optical both use sensors from mice that have already been tested. Ikari optical is the 1600cpi sensor from alot of mice including old mx518's.

So nothing really needs to be tested in my opinion except for some that I couldn't easily buy if I even wanted to.

But for you other guys I'm sure there are some mice that stick out that you really want to see the performance of. But don't assume that because old laser mice skipped that the new ones fixed that issue.

diamondback 3g has the same sensor as deathadder

You are forgetting that light intensity changes tracking quality. Same sensor with 2 different LEDs will give different results. Afaik the sensor in the new MX518 is aprox the same as in DA and DB 3G with red led. Also there has been som firmware updates to DA since the last test, would be interresting to see how that affects results.

So basically the top performing mouse would now be the MX518 1800cpi seeing as the deathadder and co. don't clip at the hardware level in their full resolution and top speed (and perfect control speed) could be higher with the better tracking thanks to a normal red light.

The reason MX518 wasn't 1st before is sujoy only tested at the highest resolution. Perfect control would have doubled at 800cpi. And likewise for the MX500/MX510 perfect control gets cut in half at 800cpi (see G1) compared to 400.

Mousescore would begin to get somewhat silly at this point as many games especially older ones don't like receiving hundreds of thousands of pixels per second from high cpi mice that are moving fast. In source engine games high CPI, capped framerates (like 100-150) and low sensitivity cause clipping of how fast one can turn.

The most interesting part of mousescore benchmarks is top speed but that is quite variable with surface and depends on the type of movements made not just speed alone.

Actually I have tried the new MX518 and the sensor is horrible. Not sure what they did it to but it is definitely inferior to the old MX518.

Got one of the new ones today . It is great IMO, same mousefeet as G5 and sensor doesn't give me any negative acceleration at all, which is something the old MX518 would do on high speed flick shots. Not sure if it's the smoothness of the huge mousefeet or the new sensor, but it's quite a bit more accurate than the old MX518.

Note that there are two models btw. of the "new" MX518. One with just 1800CPI sensor and the one with model number "MX518 910-000616" which has the same mousefeet as G5.

The one I tried didn't have G5 feet.
Edit: Looks like the 910-000616 isn't available in North America.

It is brand new, came to stores in norway this month.

i have a 1800 dpi MX518 in the US, and it has no negative acceleration at all (with the CPL mouse fix)

Sujoy said he tested other res, but it didn't make a difference so it was not mentioned. Using a certain sensor does not guarantee top results. Look at G5 and CopperHead, G5's top speed is about 80% better and they use the same sensor. This is why testing of each mouse would be interresting.

An update would be really nice. :)
