You can find Cherry G81-1800 keyboards pretty cheap sometimes, they use black switches, which I think are best for gaming (better than reds). They don't click, and they only need a light touch.

G81 uses shit switches, G80 uses cherry mx-switches.

I don't get that, because that little bump with blue and brown switches would just hinder smooth combinations which is what I like about the blacks I have and and which is why I didn't buy a black widow though I do agree that reds would be better than blacks but I don't agree that browns,clears or blues would be better than blacks at least for FPS gaming, RTS would be a whole other matter

tbh the bump is fairly negligible in fps, if anything its nice because you dont need to press all the way down for dodging, etc

Yeah, I have a blackwidow and it doesn't cause any problems when gaming. Especially FPS games since you're not double-tapping alot (UT exempted). It's just preference really. The tactile bump isn't something you actively notice once you're used to it.

Well reds are the same as black, except require less actuation force... it worries me that you are going to produce gaming peripherals to sell to others, and whilst a mouse is not the same as a keyboard, you advertise yourself to know what gamers want... i.e. know your market (gaming peripherals i.e. mouse/keyboard) because reporting incorrect facts on one will not reflect well on the other (your mouse).

I didn't actually mean that reds have a click and are hard to push, it was just a bad way to clarify what blacks are like. But granted I got the wrong cherry keyboard, though its pretty obvious I meant the G80 since I was talking about black switches though (to you anyway, maybe not the OP).

To be fair I don't know as much about keyboards as I do mice, basically because I haven't researched them nearly as thoroughly as mice yet. And thats more like how I advertise myself, not that I know everything about what gamers want, and just go ahead and do it, but that before doing any product, I research thoroughly and ask the gamers what they want. That way, when I do release something, I can say that for this product, I'm confident I found what gamers want.

Had I not rushed my post, I would have said: from my experience, I personally wouldn't want less actuation force from reds, because even the black switches are a bit too easy to actuate. Unless you want to switch keyboards for gaming and typing, I think blacks are the best all-round, and from the research I done (albeit quite a while ago), that was the general consensus as well.

TBH if I were to go into keyboards, I'd probably just give people the choice of switches anyway, since different people seem to prefer different swtiches, and I suppose its not really right to say one is better for gaming than the other, but more like one is better for one gamer.

Looks sweet, but I really son't know about not having the numpad.. I mean, I really do use mine quite a fucking lot. Every time I need to write a number. It was useless to me until I worked in a shop, but not it's second nature and I think I'd miss it.

I also see the arguments on black vs. red cherry switches, thought red was definitely the way to go but not so sure now.

The best part is when you want to use a trainer on a single player game. You are fucked! xD

You could have a look at the QPad boards, like the MK-85. Or the Corsair ones, although I wouldn't recommend either. Those are the only ones I know of with red switches and UK layout though.

If the CM storm was available with a UK layout I'd get one probably, I want a tenkeyless with red switches :p

Go here. I got a Ducky DK9008S Shining from there which I really like, but you said you wanted to spend a bit less so have a look around on it. This one sounds like what you're after and from what I've read elsewhere is very good quality.

Not sure bout the oem, but CM also has a fullsize "quick fire pro" coming out.

Let's hope full-size doesn't equate to lots of extra buttons on the sides that make it wide and impractical to use for a wasd low sens fps player. I want all my regular keys + numpad nicely tucked into a compact shell like the Otaku.

That Corsair one looks perfect, I just wish it didn't have that fucking ugly chrome and was plain black or gray instead.. Woe!

The Razer one is cheap, but I think I'd really crack up with the macro buttons on the left.

I use browns, blacks and reds switches everyday (noppoo, qpad, filco and cherry).
Reds are great for gaming but they could be annoying for typing if you don't watch your kb.
The keys require almost no actuation force so you can easily push two keys at the same time. With some practice, everything is fine btw.

Browns are the best mx switches for typing, they almost as light as reds but with the tactile feel but the tactile thing could be very boring when gaming, especially on fps.

Blacks switches are crap, the worst for typing and too stiff for gaming. Luckily these are the easier to try, every gaming shop is full of keyboards with mx blacks.
I'd rather get a nice rubber dome kb for gaming instead of these shitty switches.

Yep, I first got a black switches kb, then a brown, then a red, then two more with reds. I'd say get a reds yep :P

Note that the browns COULD be an issue for gaming, I know few quakers who are very happy with browns switches (they maybe never tried reds :]

They're tactile, so everyone says they're bad for gaming.

It's really just preference. IMO tactile switches are better all-around as long as you're not bottom them out all the time.

If I asked you to compare a rubber dome to mechanical switch, which would you say is closer in feel? I have IBM M and I love this keyboard. Can't say I find it annoying in any situation, even FPS gaming.
