Another fail CSer who thinks mwheel for jump was ever a good idea.

it is for a half life engine based game.

A simple script (called decentjump) that would input jump multiple times at the press of one button (+jump;+jump;+jump etc), essentialy the same thing as having jump on mousewheel. It's necessary in hl base games do to an engine bug (or feature, who knows) that would make you stick to the floor unless you press jump at exactly the right moment. Compare this to quakeworld on which hl was mostly based, where you only have to keep the jump key pressed to jump the moment you hit the floor.

To add to that a bit... You can fake the hitbox by crouching and then spamming jump. If you're crouched down in HL-based games, jump doesn't make you jump, it makes you stand up. However, it's extremely fast, and if you're holding crouch, you go back down again instantly. If you spam jump really fast while crouched (mousewheel makes it pretty easy to do), the opponent will see you as if you were standing up, when you were really crouching - thus missing you, if he was trying for a headshot.

except most player sprint dash, jump, hold crouch in air, release, jump, crouch again, etc. etc.

What? Either I didn't get what you said or you're wrong, at least regarding CS. If you're crouched in CS and you hit jump, you do jump, only lower and still in the crouched position. But you don't stand up. You can only stand up by releasing the crouch button.
edit: and jump on the mousewheel can be useful in CS. Since you have to hit jump exactly when you hit the ground to bunnyhop, not before or after, having it on mousewheel makes it easier. Also, you can pass under trains and through tight windows faster since you'd normally achieve that by spamming jump. So I don't really get why you would say it's a bad idea for CS. I personnally have it on space though, it works fine for me that way.

He really ment hl engine, see above posts about jumping. Even though it's based mostly on quake 1 and a bit of quake 2, it's different enough to matter.

in quake you can press jump before you hit the ground, then you'll jump as soon as you hit the ground. You'll be able to move alot better if you just bind jump to (say) mouse2

You actually have to jump in Q3. It's almost more important than firing your weapon, so you need a button with a bit more priority.

MWHEEL for jump? Please no. Try SPACE or MOUSE2.
