This is the part 1 of a serie of interviews mainly related to the players themselves and their vision of Q2 and the other main FPS.. but also some questions about QuakeCon (which will feature a Q2 competition).

Purri: My name is Mikael Tarvainen and im 22 years old (born 1982).
zbone: What's your education?
Purri: Ive finished high school. I studied 3 years with economics as main subjekt.
zbone: What are you doing in real life?
Purri: Atm my life is kinda uncertain but really fun =) I just moved back to my home town after living/studying in another town for 6 months for a change. I picked up my old work, and just hang out with my friends all the time and enjoy the summer with all the nice things that comes along with it. Im not sure what I will do after the summer but my dream is to move abroad with my best friend and just take it from there... =)
zbone: What would you like to devote yourself to?
Purri: Im not sure what I would like to devote my life to. Im a very spontanious guy, so I guess I cant even guess what I will do in the future. I have a few plans/dreams that I want to do before I deside if I want to study in collage or not...
zbone: What is the source of your incomings? Work, parents, bank robbery? :)
Purri: My income atm is coming from my work.
zbone: If you had spare evening with no friends available, what would you do?
Purri: If I somehow wouldnt have friends avalible one night I would probably just be home idling, gaming or watching movies or just rest/sleep, depends =)
zbone: Your top3 music performers and why?
Purri: At the moment I dont have any favourites... I really listen to all sorts of music, depends on mood, and occasion. I like little bit of everything, but when partying im only for happy music, such as techno for instance! I just cant stop moving when I hear it =)
zbone: Your top3 movies and why?
Purri: Top 3 is impossible =) A few that comes in my mind. LOTR 1-2-3, Matrix, Studio 54, Kung Fu Huzzle, Fear and lothing in las vegas, Troy, Flying dagger, Fight Club, Snatch, Boondock saints, American History X, American Beuty etc etc etc .... list could be longer!
zbone: What your girlfriend (if available) think of your q2 gaming, especially amount of time you spend on playing q2?
Purri: I broke up with my girlfriend 2,3 months ago... She didnt like that I played to much, and I didnt. But mainly because I was studying, working and had alot of other things going on in my real life at that time. So the little spare time I had went naturally to her and my friends =) But now im single and no studies, so naturally I got more time for gaming!
zbone: How do you like instagib games?
Purri: I seldom play instagib games cause I think they get to one sided and boring.
zbone: How long are you going to keep playing q2?
Purri: Well. Untill I either lose my internet connection, start competetive with another game or simply get bored with it. But I belive I will always come back a few times to have some nostalgic trips withmy quaker friends =)
zbone: What do you think of upcoming q4?
Purri: To be honest I dont know anything about Q4 exept for a few screenshots, and the teaser movie they realesed. So its hard to know anything for sure. But since ID software will atleast superwise the game I have some hopes. We will all know when its done!
zbone: Is there a future of q2 in Europe? Slow and quiet death or..?
Purri: That question has been asked for like the last 3-4 years? And people are still playing it and probably will. Q4 is the next big test. If the game is good, people will naturally start playing it. I think many of the Q2 players (like me) are waiting for the next game. Since almost all the new games are boring in compare to Q2, people have stuck with it. So we will just have to wait and see how good Q4 will be.
zbone: What do you think of q2 in compare with other shooters?
Purri: I've played the game since I first tried it over 6 years ago, that kind of explains what I think of the game =) There is simply no other game that gives me the same feeling or joy out there, and I dont think any other game ever will give me the same pleasure since Q2 was the first love! =)
zbone: You know that Scooby leaves Europe and q2. How will it affect the q2 scene on your opinion? What do you think of Scooby as player and person as well?
Purri: Its always bad when good/known players deside to quit or leave. Scooby did some good things for the community by admining leagues etc. People like that are always needed in a small community as ours. Q2's problem isnt enough players, it is that we dont have enough with people that wants to sacrifice time/effort in creating new leagues. I dont know Scooby by person. But he has some moments and seems to be a funny person IRL, atleast when we were on ventrilo =)
zbone: There is big Q2 event in August in USA. QCon 2005. And I know you are going participate so there are few q's about that:
- zbone: Have you found sponsor or own money?
- Purri: I have found sponsors. 90% of the money comes from a oldschool Q2 clan from Sweden called [+30]. Really nice guys and obviously generous. I still cant belive they donated that kind of money for me! Visit http://www.plus30.net if you want to find outmore about these cool guys =) The other ~10% comes from individual Q2 players from Sweden. Im lucky to have such good friends that believe in me.
- zbone: What's your predictions? Who else from top Euro players will be there?
- Purri: Its hard to predict. I barely know the American players. I've played a few, and some of them got potential to be good on lan. I will mainly focus on my own game and we will see how far thattakes me. I havent checked the players list that much, but I heard that Scooby and DM might make the trip aswell. Dont know of others.
- zbone: What do you think of tournament system there? Are you beware of first FFA tour on dm8?
- Purri: The tournament system could have been better. Best of 1 map can be tough for anyone. I would have felt more safe with best of 3 maps, atleast in the final stages. But I understand how they are thinking. Time is always the issue when you run something as big as quakecon. We simply just have to addapt and make the best of it. Im aware of the FFA elimination on dm8. Thats a good way to eliminate the really bad ones instantly, I just hope I wont end up in a group with more than 4 players that are really good on FFA!
- zbone: What will be your practice look like begore this event?
- Purri: My practise started a few days ago. I have no internet from home since I just moved, and my ISP simply are lazy atm. I've moved my computer to a friend of mine to get some games. Im just going to play online before I go to USA. There I will bootcamp 3 days before with dz.doze at his place before the event. Hopefully it will be enough =)

Purri: I dislike handgrandes (im a handgranade magnet:() So, MG!

Purri: I cant say wich one is "THE BEST". Im seldom happy with my own games. Sometimes they feel good in the moment, but when I watch the demo I just get angry when I see the misstakes! But I usually make some nasty games after playing a few hours and hitting/playing without thinking =)
