You can't predict 1000 people being on TS2 for a release party. Didn't even know TS2 supported 1000 people - upload bandwidth used during 1 day: 60 GB.

Should've predicted a lot of people wanting to download something which they've been pimping like madmen pre-release.

nope, nothing like that. i did upgrade my gfx drivers when the bf2 installer prompted me. and im using a gf4 ti 4400

Well don't know what it is then. Just the same thing happened to me when I tried to start the game. Apparently you can only use 60hz refresh rate when starting the demo up for the first time.

I found out its because bf2 does not support cards like the geforce 4 or below. Im not going to upgrade from my Geforce 3 ti500 till Quake 4 comes out :)

I have the same thing on a lot of PC's at my gaming centre. They're all identical but only some are not working as you described. I'm going to try the refresh rate thing when I get in tomorrow.

pretty dissapointing, after all the hype it feels exactly the same as bf1942. Not to mention the infantry class is still almost as useless as before.

Exactly, needing 30 bullets to finish one guy is bleah. I hate games like that who want to be close to the realism on the ammunition clip count and everything else, but then neglect the damage factor of real life. Shoting one guy with a clip of 30 bullets, and when he falls you have about 10-15 left, now when there are two or more guys rushing you, you're in troubble.

I also noticed that the ironsights and crosshairs are way of the actual firing path. The sniper is a joke tbh.

But it's a fine game for recreation :),

Been flying a lot, the attack helicopters and jetplanes.

Tried it, disliked it, deleted it.

The movement feels quirky, the mouse sens is different standing than running (which exacerbates the quirky feeling), the weapons are pea shooters, the ironsights are just an annoyance as they didn't bother to model breathing a la AA, the graphics are good but nothing spectacular, some of the weapon sounds are horrendous, and the conquest mode is a spamfest.

Perfect for the casual gamer, but not my cup of tea.

You're confusing people who are interested in pro-gaming with people who are elitists. Elitists are people who only like the very best games out there - whether they're competitive games or not. Pro-gaming fans, on the other hand, only like the best competitive games.

For most people, the fun comes from simply playing the game. But for people who are into pro-gaming, the fun comes from the competition. When fun comes from something like competition, games which are not good for competition will not be fun. It's the nature of competition.

The fact is, this is mostly a pro-gaming/esports site. Hence the journalistic approach.

I love the demo. Much more fun that any of the previous BF games IMO. The ranking system with commander and squadse etc. is awsome. Lots of fun :)

Runs pretty smooth on my machine (P4 2.6GHz, 1GB PC3200 RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro).

The demossytem is pretty smooth to if it's like they say. Haven't tested. The server records, you retrieve the demo after and can watch through any player and set up cameras and camera paths and it can also export to AVI it says :) Now that can make for some pretty insane movies :D

So it's basically like a qizmo mvd...

Qizmo doesn't do MVDs.

It's been hacked on most servers. Just look for "No time limit" in the server name and it'll be fine. Much better without it.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. It owns, provided you're willing to give Battlefield a chance - it's not Quake 3, but it does have it's charms. Watching 2 tanks duke it out while MiG's and Harriers scream overhead and then having an Apache annihilate both tanks only to get shot by a Stingery and then having to dodge into a building to avoid the commander's artillery fire, well, it's just awesome.

If you can get it to run well at high detail, it feels like you're playing a movie, and it's utterly sweet.

They provide entertainment to thousands of people around the world, and whether or not they require the degree of skill you deem necessary, they don't appear to be supported by CPL or ESWC, so we're not stealing money away from your precious Quake 3 either. If you disagree with the game mechanics, then fine, just say you don't like it, but the fact of the matter is that BF2 remains a good game if you're willing to accept that it's not Q*.

Then again, if you're saying that the number one sales hit of this year should be banned, then you're basically saying that we might as well ditch the gaming industry, and especially multiplayer gaming - 'cuz only morons play this sort of game anyway...

a good game, loved 1942... didnt quite get on with BFV, still has the same flaws as the others... the choppers are still stupidly overpowered and annoying as ever, other than that yeh it has some sweet new elements, the squads and commander functions add another dimension which was definatly needed.
