I think it'd be more productive asking the top clans/players on IRC directly and make it a strictly past/present Div1 players thing.

Anyway, I'd like to play.

Make a list of people you want to see play and ask them if they would be interested in the next week or 2 weeks.

Just to name a few. Then check mark the people who agree and see if you can get 40 players. Then set the game on a Sunday (probably best day) in a few weeks, so that people can plan being available for it and cancel if they can't way beforehand.

If you need help, I can help you with asking players and sorting the list for you who would be available.

Well there seems to be some interest in the concept.

But scheduling wise it's probably better to have it at the start of the summer holidays. Since a lot of people will be having exams and stuff soonish.

So you will not prepare it now but later? Might as well start asking confirments to get 40 players and pick a date in June or July way beforehand. It's already May, so it is just around the corner really, and since we know scheduling something in Quake Live regarding games is a total disaster, it is best to plan and settle it way beforehand.

If you won't do it, I'll gladly start up a list of all players that would be good in such a draft and ask around mIRC this week to the next.

I will be making a spreadsheet in excel of the players now. Anyone who can be available and hasn't said it yet can reply here or pm me in mIRC nickname BlaD3.

I'm just making the list, whoever arranges it can request it.

The date isn't settled yet, it is just a general idea of WHO of players would be available for the European CTF draft

It's not an elite only event. It is similar to the USA version, where the most known players were picked to create a fun and fair event. If you have too many skill gaps, teams will get blown out the water and no one cares about 8-0 in 5 to 10 minutes.

Anyone can apply, you however need CTF experience and be able to tag along good players. The list is just created out of players I would like to see in such an event to make it interesting for every one to watch.

I have nothing to do with the current organisation per se.

But i do agree it's not going in the direction i wanted it too.

What i wanted was a draft open for all , this kinda defeats the purpose

its a shame that QL gametypes are so limited & servers awkward...otherwise they could do something similar to in UT2004 US scene where every friday/saturday night they had a community server where players got together & played all different gametypes on all different maps...awesome times o:

lots? if it were made open you would probably only gain maybe an extra round in the tournament brackets so i dont see how, after a couple rounds in, youll still be having 8-0s

maybe im just wrong in thinking that one of the positives of a draft tournament is the potential for some lower tier player (div 4 clanbase or similar) to be able to say "i played with l1nkje in a ctf tournament and we reached the finals!"

edit: not only that but if the teams were known in advance & they practiced a little before like the yanks did then just think how valuable some l1nkje advice could be to that player's game

then obviously theres no need for this draft since the top players can just play in the pickup channel to.

So much complaining, yet all I try to do is getting this started and sorted so that it can be played on the given dates. It's just never good enough and that's how it works.

The USA draft was a success due to having a lot of teams that could take on each other. Sure there are differences, but still every one playing in that draft was top in the USA scene. It worked out well, that's why this is a copy of that concept.

You can throw the word 'elite' around this event all you want, but in the end it will make up for a nice event with good games.

All I want is not to create the 8-0 scenario's that WILL happen in a 4v4 CTF format if the teams and players aren't well balanced. One or two lower tier players will throw the team balanced off so much.

The interest is so big, that I will probably just stick to being an admin in this event. I want to keep a good balance in the tournament, and I can't do that by taking in every one till the 40 player cap is reached. There will be too many one sided games then, which will result in the better players raging on the lower tier players.

But I guess there will always be complaints. This will be run as good as possible and if you want to make a different version of it with your own ideals, go ahead.

Dates are being discussed, but to grant every one some scheduling time and IF they feel like it, practice time, it will probably be either Sunday 29th of May or Sunday 5th of June.

if youre waiting for summer when people are broken up why is it being weekend only? it will clash with zotac then or if you do it after zotac then its basically the same as people playing after work on a weekday

Because not every one has holidays at the same time, and neither do people prioritize playing Quake Live in such times.

We also want to prevent clashing with events such as Dreamhack Summer 2011 and Quakecon. Waiting many weeks for this draft to start is also not very sensible.

There's few CTF-ers who play Zotac and they surely can skip one for once.

So I see no problem planning it on a Sunday some weeks ahead, so people can plan their real lives around it.

Well it pretty much is yes if you take the best players of each nation, you will get mostly players who also play the nationscup :p But not all nations participated in the nationscup or fielded their best players.

w/e ppl say: 8:0 is not fun. For either of the parties.

but some people think they can keep up with div1 players and maybe they are even better then some on the list.
But they didnt achieve anything in quake, or dont have the team to make clear they are a good player.
so next time it would be nice if at least div2 players(or newcomers with skill) can sign up 2.

Thing with this argument is that if you look at the downside, it means it will be a gamble of how teams will work out, because you are putting players that 'think' themselves they are experienced enough to play along sides these players.

Based on this argument, I think that creating a solid event where teams are equal is the best base to start this. In the future adaptations can be made with a mix of all skill levels (creating a 4 group seeding system, where a div1 player teams up with one div2 player, one div3 player and one div4).

But since in Quake Live a lot of players are playing in divisions they don't belong in, this would still be a questionable concept.

Anyway the way it looks now is pretty safe to provide a well worthy event, even if some people claim it to be 'elitist'.
