yeah i've been playing this on the xbox quite a bit, we only have the official 360 controllers though which are terrible.

so in preparation for the pc release i bought the gamecube hori stick with a converter and have been playing some 3s on 2df.

seen most of those videos, looking forward to seeing this though.

HRAPs are sold out everywhere (and will be for quite some time) so they are only available for about 300 quid on ebay atm. even the EX-2s are about 80.

i just wanted to try any stick really, to see how it differs from a pad. so i bought an old hori gamecube stick on ebay to try it out. people say that the stock hori sticks are bad but they're looking at it from an almost professional level, really all the hori sticks seem pretty tough from what i've seen and there's nothing stopping you buying the buttons and stick separately.

i've never used arcade sticks. i play some SF4 from time to time on my friend's xbox with stock controllers. needless to say, it's purely a casual experience. very hard to play seriously on those as you can't get your combos going.

i play a lot of SF2 Super Turbo on GGPO though and i play with keyboard. i've gotten quite used to it and it's a whole lot better than those controllers. however, i hear that there's nothing like sticks once you get used to them.

SF4 US Nationals held by Capcom & GameStop took place today along with an international exhibition to which the champions of South Korea (poongko), Japan (iyo) and Daigo (he has his own country i guess, altho he failed to win the Japan Nationals :D) would play eachother and with the newly decided US champion

Justin Wong won the US Nationals with Rufus.

poongko, while beasting everyone in South Korea and playing very aggressive, was disappointing.. he lost to everyone. blocking > poongko

Daigo and Justin beat every other national champion and faced in a final match that would settle the winner of the World exhibition.
Daigo beasted Wong 4-0.

Got a question about fighting sticks. I�m planning to buy one but i dont know which one. These sticks are quite expensive and currently i�d like to buy the Hori Fighting Stick FS3 which costs around 50 euros. The Hori Fighting Stick 3 sucks and isnt easily modifiable. The Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 comes with an authentic Sanwa JLF joystick but the stock buttons suck as they are Hori brand. BUT you can easily switch out the buttons with Sanwa or Seimitsu branded arcade pushbuttons.

If I were you I'd get a Madcatz SE stick, its about the same price as a Hori Fighting Stick 3 and its easily modifiable with Sanwa or Seimitsu brand parts.

If money isn't an issue then grab the HRAP 3 or Madcatz Tournament Edition stick. Preferably the latter one because it already comes with all Sanwa arcade buttons and joystick so no need to mod anything on it.

Easy as in you only need a screw driver to pry off the connection plugs that connect the arcade buttons and wires together.

with the hori fight stick 3 you would need to do some solder work and other dremel/filing down work. some drilling and other bullshit you probably wouldn't wanna do to a brand new stick.

SE costs about 70-80 US bucks here (not sure about how much it would be for you though).

buttons costs about 3-4 bucks each depending on where you get them. I think they have a german online store that sells arcade parts so that would probably be better for you instead of modchipman.com or lizardlickamusements.com

JLF joystick goes around 25 bucks also.

don't play Zangief, Guile, Vega.. then you shouldn't have any problems on keyboard.

i finished the Challenge mode Trials on Hard with plenty of characters on keyboard or at least reached level 4 or 5 with most (and those final combos are just as hard on gamepad or arcade stick).

Kudos to you, must have been hard on the fingers to practice all those sequences :) I played through with bison and viper, but it's just really really hard to perform the combos/ex/super/ultras with consistency. Bison was by far the easiest because of the 2 seconds wait, but i still feel hindered by only having a keyboard. I suppose the games wasn't intended for keyboard play, but still..i feel like you _have_ to buy a joystick to enjoy SF4 :)

I actually deleted the game because of this. If i can't perform my best I don't want to play, but that's just me in a nutshell. Too competative. From what i can tell, it's joystick>pad>keyboard. At least i found many guys on gamespot that said their play improved a lot, after they did the change from pad.

I'd like to know how a regular joystick (like the one below) compare to these, so if anyone can give some feedback, that would be nice :)

I've never had a console so i'm not so sure whether a pad is useless as well. Seems like most of the pad players grew up with a pad. I have been wondering about getting this one though, or the joystick above.

And offtopic, I need to get my hands on the G25 some time as well. It looks sooo awesome..

I have the Logitech Dualman and its a brilliant pad for street fighter and only �20.

The only problem I have found is that after a few months of fairly hard use, the dpad has become loose so it can sometimes effect your HIGH/LOW blocks, its also impossible for me atm to do Ryu's super, despite being able to do Zangiefs vastly more complex final atomic buster and SPD on command every time.

But if you buy it new, I would say there should be at least 2000 games of life in it and a few 1000 more if you don't need the extra precision.

I was tempted to buy another, but I thought with the populatirty of the game (over 1000 at the upcoming evo tourney!), it makes far more sense to buy a 360 compatable pad/stick if I want to enter a tourney.

If I was gonna get another pad, I would probably spend a bit more and get the fight pad.

But for 45 quid, that seems a baragain and if a conencter exists for it to work on 360 it seems a much better option than the pad.

I'll edit this if I find out anymore. I'm not sure I like the game enoug to invest in a top of the range stick, the game feels kinda cheap, being able to link massive ultra combos off a simple juggle means the game can feel like a lottery at times.

PS3 controllers *should* work just fine on PC, but some of them are known to have problems. Check SRK's Tech Talk.

There are no PS3 -> 360 converters (well there are a pair of models, but they are ridiculously expensive and known to cause lots of lag).

Yeah the problem is the tournaments are mostly using 360's or PC's. Ps3's fightstick won't work on 360 will it?

The way I seen it, getting a stick that will support 66.6 % of the games formats (PC/360/PS3) is better than the 33% alternative for the sony.
I think I'm getting a fight stick TE. I really don't think SF4 is worthy of 130 quid investment (game+TE stick), but the stick will work for Super Turbo and other fighters so I'll probably order one tomorrow.

Also does anyone know if tourneys allow you to bind LP/MP/HP to one button, along with throws etc?

Seems to me that's a massive advantage.

EDIT--Recent EVO tourney appeared to use PS3?

How does this work then if you have a 360 controller, thye have something to make it work????

I don't think they allow 3x Punch/Kick or Throws to be bound to a single button in tourneys like evo or sbo ect ect. And they most definitely don't allow turbo to be assigned to any buttons.

I just used 2 button plugs and got rid of the last 2 buttons on my TE stick. I like it a lot better like this because its less buttons I have to worry about and makes execution more robust imo.

I tried to use the throw command bound to a 7th button but I found myself using LP + LK on reaction all the time since I played SF III - 3rd Strike for months before playing SF IV. So its hard to break a habit like that but in this case its a good habit so I'm not stressing it.

But if you have no probs using an 8 button setup over a 6 button setup then there's nothing wrong with capitalizing on that. I'd stick with the 3x Punch/Kick for those 2 buttons as pressing 2 buttons for throwing isn't hard to do.

Yeah I know autos are illegal, but binding x3 punch or x3 kick is allowed, as is binded focus or throws.

BUT. I'm really struggling to play with these extra buttons.
i'm used to a pad, and before then I was used to a traditional 6 button layout so I might well remove (or do a major re-reoute) the extra buttons because its proving very difficult for me to hit the right one in the heat of the moment. granted its been less than 2 days of use but still.

I still think PPP and KKK is an advantage, it means you get the ultra out everytime which can be a big help with Zangief, particually if you think that ultra is awarded for playing bad. The more you get hit, the more chance the game gives you the opportunity of landing huge damage for minimum skil.

I must admit I think sf4 is ok, but I think its quite gimmicky too,
I miss the simplicity of ST.

Im used to the Arcade where they don't have these extra buttons. Also some characters require moves that need more then 2 buttons pressed sometimes at once.

I play as Akuma on the PC/console version sometimes and his Kara-Ultra move needs HK, MP, LP pressed at about the same time then LK LK and HP lol

So for me having those extra 2 buttons there would just further complicate certain actions in the heat of the moment like you say.

I just ripped the two buttons out. feels better, less clutter, but I'm still struggling to adjust to the stick after years of using a pad.
Often having to look at where Hard kick is in game.

Also gonna rip out the 4 way sanwa gate and repalce it with an America/Euro 8 way octo gateas this jap style is not working for me in the most basic way.

yea man give the octogate a try. I wasn't used to the square gate at first so i switched to the octo gate. It helped me with my execution but I found that it was hard for me to down-block on reaction since I was having problems finding the corner easy. So I switched back to square gate and I'm used to it now.

I also switched from a shoto char to a charge char for the first time and now I find myself playing charge characters more than circular motion chars. Since its easier to use charge chars with the square gate, I'm loving it.

Oh and for the buttons you ripped out you can buy button plugs for like $1.50-1.75 USD each (not sure how much it would be in EUROs

You can put Sanwa buttons in the SE stick fairly easy but the stock parts it comes with are meant to be a bit =/

I got a TE and i love it. You don't need to mod it and it seems fairly robust. It depends if you want to spend money or later cos if you get the SE i reckon you will end up modding it and that will take the cost up to the same as the TE and you will need to wait on parts being imported.

Although one of my friends has built his own stick by taking a xbox controller apart... Seems to work nice and he has sanwa/denshi parts in it.

I need some help, I can't figure out what street fighter pad I can use for the PC version. From Capcoms site, it seems like the Xbox pad is the same used for pc. "The Fight Pad is the exact same as the Xbox 360 fight pad that is sold separately (Ryu design only), so if you have a PC AND an Xbox 360, it�ll work on both for future titles. For the PC on Vista (and presumably Windows 7, though I haven�t tested the new RC yet) the pad just plugs in and works �out of the box� with Street Fighter IV"

But all the fight sticks i've found say PS3, and some users claim these work on the PC as well. So doesn't it matter what I buy? Because the PS3 controllers are sold out while the xbox 360 are available, but it seems weird that an xbox controller will work on a PC. The price is actually fairly low here, in total it's �20 for SF4, and �30 for a PS3 or xbox fight pad. If I buy it from Capcom in the bundle, it's a whopping �100!

This game is somewhat broke though, think about it, you get an ultra meter that builds up the more damage you take which can do huge damage and can also be linked on the most basic of stuff. Its like giving an inferior poker player more cards on the river compared to his opponent. Its broken logic.

So in many ways the game rewards you for being beat up in a round and presents you with an very generous opportunity which can potentially allow you to inflict mass amounts of damage for a single move. Where as the opponent might have spent 3/4 of the round skillfully taking off damage.

In most fighting games, the level of health left between two opponents is WELL within the damage that an ultra would do.
Even IF there is quite a bit of difference in skill.

So despite being outplayed, you can infact make up for your lack of skills by just needing to land the one thing that sets up your ultra. In many cases this is nothing but a basic juggle.

I just think this is a very dogy game in many ways.

Well, you first get the weakest ultra at 50% health so I don't think it's that broke. And if he launches his ultra, you get an ultra as well (off my head ;) so the odds are still in favour of the better player.

nah man you can get an ultra WAAAAAAAY before reaching 50% health just by blocking everything.

I was playing as Bison and I was pretty much rushing down this Sagat player very very fast. I pretty much had him in the corner blocking the whole round. He only hit me with about 1 tiger uppercut and 1 random tiger knee. I then proceeded to beat on him while he was blocking everything I hit him with. I was at about 75% health then all of a sudden he does his ultra on me and boom Im dead.

I agree with Jamerio this game rewards defensive characters WAAAAY too much man. I then switched from Bison to a character with more options vs defensive turtling bitches, Seth. And I've been having more fun now.

No, you can't do that by blocking.

Ultra depends on damage received (no matter what kind), so the only way to get ultra without losing half your life is by focusing attacks or getting hit out of a super armour move.

There is a good post there, glad to see its not just me, I just find the concept of kicking shit into someone and taking 50% of their health can in many cases award them with a level one ultra which can require next to no skill to perform and INSTANTLY claw back the damage you spend doing in a way which required a lot more skill.

Whichever way you look at it, there is a big reward for getting attacked and the damage and ease of use with which some characters can execute it.

Its why I dropped Guile and mained gief, he has low damage SB, crap flash kick, and a pretty useless ultra, the guy is a fish.

Now I main gief I have won SO MANY games based purely on the ultra damage, yeah take chip damage off fireballs, but at the same time, I just need to land one ultra/super to pull off 500-600 damage and against anyone but a good opponent or a bad matchup, they are winning me games time after time to the pint where they feel a little shallow.

I know its to noobify the game for the home markets, but its still abit like the shotgun in quakelive. You know its borderline abuse.

i used to dislike the concept of ultras but i now feel they have their place in SF4. what i hate is the current implementation. some characters have ridiculously easy set ups and some ultras do way more damage than others.

i main Ryu and i still admit that AA jab DP to ultra is retarded. solid damage for something that's easy as fuck while other characters have to work their asses off to land one.

the 13 frame reversal window also makes it too easy for characters like Ryu to interrupt a block string with a mashed out DP -> FADC -> Ultra.

True, but a few months ago I took several games off the winner of the EVO 2009 HDREMIX finals.

Like I said, certain characters work well enough with the pad.
Granted, the stick is the ideal thing, but if someone like justin wong or daigo was used to playing on a pad, I promise you they would still be right up there.

Particually as you can bind FOCUS/THROW/PPP/KKK to a single button.

If you've ever played in an arcade in europe or the USA it would have had that 8 way thing.

My fightstick TE is giving me so much hassle (can't block cross up's or do ryu's super properly), it uses a jap 4 way gate which is what is used in asia. This is a really cheap mod that I would recommended anyone with these sticks to try. I'm ordering next week.

Pop it in and see if you prefer, IMO its more natural to most western gamers because its how all the joysticks in our countries would have been.

Moving from a pad was bad enough, but I still had a lot of coinop expereince, sadly, this expereince was on an 8 way gate, so its even more foreign.

Just something to consider if you have a Fightstick TE.

You can still do well on a pad if you find a character that suits the layout, but if you get used to a stick, you will be a better player.

Sadly, this is not always so easy.

ATM I got a fight stick TE, it has a jap 4 way gate, so it means that even though I am expereinced in arcades, the USA/European arcades use an 8 way gate, so the STICK feels totally different to EVERY arcade I have ever played in.

The result???

I struggle to block how I want, and I can do ryu's super about 10% of the time (a simple move). A move I could do 100% 10 years ago.
In short, its ruining my game.

ATM I am a significantly worse player than what I would be if I used a pad (though I still suck as I am so clueless about the game atm). But I hope that when I replace the 4 way gate, with an 8 way, I will gain a big boost.

But it can take a long time to adjust.

Perhaps the majority play it with a stick, since they are all old arcade players?

I'm not saying a way 4 gate cannot hit the diagonals, I'm saying it only has FOUR OBVIOUS points of reference which are only at the diagonal poionts, the rest are(UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT).

The game only has 8 possible directions, so I was saying that American and European gamers brought up in arcades would have gotten used to an 8 way gate which as you can see has ridges in every possible direction which can make the Asian 4 ways gates seem very odd because it has longer periods of movement where there is less obvioust feedback as to where you are direction wise. Which can cause you to mess up moves or reversals which will cost you games.

The 8 way gates always give you good feeback every 45 degrees, the 4 way gates only at 45/135/225/315.

Of course either is fine and you can adjust, but for most people an 8 way gate would serve them better. Especially if they ryu/ken

They're only a few quid to upgrade so peeps can try what they want.

It's possible to get good with a pad in SF4 becase Capcom has made it easier to pull of the special moves. But still you have the advantage if you can master the arcade stick and almost all players that made it too the semifinal round (top 128) practice mostly on the arcade game anyway. Daigo doesn't even own a stick he only plays on arcade.

EVO have got some deal on with IGN, they'll be uploading HD versions on Friday or there abouts, I'm sure they'll materialise soon after and I assume they will run at more than 10 fps.

Apparently the netcode is beyond crappy. They say they are going to patch it on the 28th, but after all the previous SNK experiences on XBLA I don't expect it to be even on SF4's level.

Also, the sprites are not in HD and it looks terrible on HD screens.

And the animation was always jerky, I liked some of the earlier ones, but it was a second rate street fighter IMO.

What that engine that renders one of the best looking beat em up's ever made at 60 FPS?
So how can an engine which renders everything at 60, has facial animation and produces some of the best graphic I ever seen be a bad engine? I'm curious.

It makes you sound misinformed, given you admitted you only played it a handful of times, then jumped on a tangent about the engine.

Had you gone into some kind of detail about why no one would have said anything. Perhaps the impact of focus attacks, or the juggle into ultra potential would have shown something. ATM, you've no really given a construcitve reason why you dislike something and yes you need to, because if you want to have an opinion thats worth anything, you need to show that you understand what you're talking about because opinons stemmed from ignorance are a waste of everyone's time.
But that's the net for you.

You're welcome to try again, and show that you have the knowledge to dissect the game you're being critical of.

Otherwise, you're just another thing on the net given an opinon stemmed from his lack of knwoledge.

You can turn off all the video options, far more so than quake.

Its actually an advantage too, just like in quake.
Its easier to focus on the things that matter, but i play it in high.

There is not even an option on the site for STREET FIGHTER.
Needs to be added imo, given the amount of tourneys, plus people like wheat are involved etc.

Yeah, I'll hopefully try some HD REMIX (Super Turbo).

Maybe SF4, but I only own it on the PC, most (not all) of the players there are quite bad, so its proving really difficult to get some quality games that evolve my play.

If i can get a few hours on HDremix to get used to the flow of it, I should do a lot better as I already know the game from the coin-op and the top tier characters (that I don't use) have been slightly nerfed, so it suits me a lot better.

Being a DJ player I'd be more concerned about the lower tier characters. The game plan should be about the same, but you have to be a bit more careful when throwing max outs against the new fireball-avoiding moves and you have to get used to be pressured a lot more by characters like Cammy or Fei-Long.

Also the Zangief and T. Hawk match-ups are a bit harder and more annoying than in vanilla ST.

in the 5on5 SHIOZAWA CUP sponsored by Capcom & Taito (taking place 2 days before SBO which is this weekend), the american team "LETS GO JUSTIN" was eliminated in a dubious manner

the shitstorm started @ both SRK and 2ch (Japanese message board) with lots of crossposts.

i did, and gave up, cause some moves are just impossible to do. and i don't mean the difficult ones, but just random throws, in-air, i'm pressing the right buttons, nothing happens. (BACK +LP LK i.e.)

playing on a keyboard, dunno if that's bugging it.

so i gave up the trials, went to that site + some youtube combo tutorials.

did some training first to learn combos, but its easy to make them vs a dummy standing still, but when the guy's throwing you around and not letting you do anything in VS its a different story and i forget the moves :)))

A little table i looked at a while back and marked some things for me...

I hear there will be a patch coming out soon, don't take this as gospel as in the right hands rankings can go out of the window.

But this is a good indication of how a character will perform under certain conditions and the results from the big tourneys show that this data is not far off the mark, but don't forget there will probably be a patch out before 2010 and more importantly, the more common a character is, the more expereince people to counter it.

Typical, the guy I major "Guile" just happens to the be the absolute lowest.

I also side picked Zangief as I heard he was great, but while I wipe the floor with scrubs, a good player will keep zangief out, so all his plus points become a lot less relevant, at the most fundamental level, you always know zangief has to come to you, and thats always a disadvantage to him. Guile does shit damage and has a crap super that seldom lands and is hader to do, and his flash kick can be kicked out of by the msot stupud of stuff.

So basically between guile and zangief I don't seem to connect with anyone else in the game. I might look into Abel or Gouken, but without a Guile update, or a bond with Abel or Gouken (as they both seem interesting when played by top talent) I don't think game will hold me beyond christmas.

If they put DJ I will give up eating cake.

Some useful things here for pc players with a LEGAL copy.
I only used the" no cd" thing and the trainer (which I got elsewhere) so you don't have to spend a 1000 hours unlocking all characters.

I tried the no intro thing hoping it would go straight to title screen, but I just got a black screen, and then it went to the title screen, in other words it saved me no time so reverted back to normal.

The trainer and no cd thing are useful though.

This is the one (http://www.filefront.com/14490441/Street%20Fi...locker.exe) i have on my pc, I did not use the one from the link I provided but sure its fine.
Unless something has been updated.

Basically you just run the game, alt+enter out of the game.
Place the unlocker in the C:\Program Files\CAPCOM\STREETFIGHTERIV directory then try running it with the game in the background.

I think there is a link on the unlicker that that says launch SF4 and perhaps from there it creates another .exe in your folder.
And then shortcut to there.

Whatever, I had access to all the characters, not all of the awards are filled in by any means, so its not as if your account is maxed out or anything, the main benefit is the charcters and saves you spending a hideous amount of time to play the game.

I did it within 24 hours of playing and have had no problems.

Its not a cheat, and seeing as capcom fucked up Guile and left out DJ its the least I can do to rebel a little :)

Yeah the netcode is a problem, the betteri get, the less I seem to enjoy this game, because you start to realise that the majority of games you play are at 3 bars and you just can't get reversals out all the time, it means you get abused for it.

Pick someone like cammy her reaction time and speed are IMO a massive advantage for online play.

I've used the unlocker online for a while and it works fine, I pirated the game at first to see if I liked it, unlocked all the characters (including Gouken) and then I bought it and realised I had to do it again. The unlocker I used is this one: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JTM0ID6O from this SRK thread, it has the memory addresses so you can do it manually if you're worried about any foul play.

ok here's something i seem to have stumbled upon that might help some people. it's probably obvious but i'll post anyway.

i've been playing SF4 PC for a few days now (after the steam weekend deal) and i always had problems with 1 frame links like Ryu's c.lp -> c.lp -> c.mp. i just wasn't consistent enough. now, i know the timing is tricky but i'm able to do it more frequently on an xbox even though the controller is horseshit.

the moment i got the game, i turned up refresh rate in game to 72hz which is the highest my monitor can do at 1280x720 (i played windowed as i have a 4:3 monitor and SF4 just looks weird in that aspect ratio). i turned off V-sync fearing that it may produce some input lag like it does in Q3 for a lot of people. common sense told me to set my FPS to fixed rather than variable (why oh why did Capcom make this default?)

when i revisited the settings today, i turned my refresh rate down to 60hz to sync with the game's FPS which is 60 and switched V-sync back on. this made a noticeable difference in my input consistency... those nasty 1 frame links, combos and cancels in general seem way easier than before.

any thoughts?

Just tried that and I was able to do it fairly consistently using plinking. I'm not using vsync or any shit but I do have my FPS set to fixed purely because if you don't it can cause issues with slowdown online and it did for me. when you have to link to HP you press HP~MP instead (almost instantly)

for example in a staple Ryu combo:
f+HP (solar plexus strike), down+HP~MP, HP Shoryuken

getting down+HP after solar plexus strike is very hard, doing that plink should make it easier.

i didn't quite master it since i think it's a really stupid mechanic and my main characters don't need difficult link combos to play with.. and don't worry it's just as hard on stick too.

i bought a HRAP3 and i thought it'll be more intuitive to play on.. now it's collecting dust. keyboard is so much better. there's so much room to fail with on a stick (especially on a square gate like mine). if you hit a diagonal by mistake you fucked up big.. keyboard for motions is so much precise having keys for each direction and all.

if you don't have any ambitions of going pro "stick" with keyboard/gamepad. sticks are overhyped.

yeah i'm loving the keyboard right now. i don't think i'll buy a stick. i used to think shoryuken -> fadc -> ultra for ryu was impossible on keys but i get them 80% of the time now so anything i'm missing is because of my lack of practice and not the keyboard itself.

it's way better than my saturn pad for shotos and charge characters... 360s in ST is very painful but it's much easier in SF4 thanks to the shortcuts.

Yeah I am, it's kinda difficult, you still have to get the timing right or you'll end up with cr.lp x3 or something. Do it in training mode with input display on, if it shows:

Seriously?

Most characters can chip away a large portion of Gief's health to the point where his damage/health become a lot less significant.
I'm often 30-40% down on health before I get an opportunity to attack. Shotos esepcially, but even Bison's Fierce Kick and Mystical Fist can be so frustrating to get around.
As a result, his health/damage are not as broke as they might seem, unless you're letting him get in too early.

I will admit that once gief gets in close he can get away with some bullshit and put the opponent in a bad state of mind, but I think that is no worse than the BS many opponet can reflect on you.

The only difference being, most non-gief players have the advantage at the start of every round. Zangief has to work to get the advantage many players have for free at the start of every round.

You won't have a problem convincing me how dodgy sagat is.

The game is too super/ultra orientated for me to ever really take to, but as I only have time for one game and quakelive just offered me nothing new, its the one I'll put a bit of time into.

i read somewhere that the arcade cabinets for SF4 are very similar to PCs and that was the reason behind a port for Windows. there won't be an arcade version for SSF4 which could well mean no PC port either.

also, iirc... PC SF4 sales were pretty bad compared to xbox and ps3.

DJ looks as stylish as ever, not sure about his voice though.

Any news on changes on existing characters from SF4 as this gamesis more of an update than anything, so its a good opportunity to sort it out for tourney play.

Its seems very pro orientated, so lets hope they actually listened to some of the solid advice going around.

hmm.. btw would you recommend the TE to someone who has never really used sticks before? it's been controllers / keyboard all the way for me. i know it's probably the best stick out there atm but it's also the most expensive, especially with the shipping charges to India, it's a small fortune. the only thing that's making me reluctant about shelling out so much on it is that i don't know if i'd even like playing on sticks.

the trouble is even shit sticks aren't very cheap after shipping either and i don't know if i can really judge the experience of playing on a stick by giving a mediocre piece of hardware a try.

I would say you can play pretty well on a pad, I can't even contemplate a keyboard. You will get used to a stick, its like playing FPS on pc when you're used to a console, after a bit of time you realise how fundamentally bad it really is.

You just don't know any better atm.

If you want a free pad I'll mail you my Logitech Dualman joypad, its probably the best pad for SF on the PC.
It weighs next to nothing so I don't mind paying postage its only a few pound and at least someone might benefit from it.

Its getting dusty as my fightstick works for the Pc and 360.

if you get a stick make sure its a 360 one for compatability.

If shit sticks are pricey then you might aswell do it right the first time and get the TE. Save or whatever, or research building one, its not that difficult.The heavy base could be made from a block of wood and some drilling. The rest is just a wiring loom and off the shelf parts from sanwa.

The Fightstick will last you a lifetime, so its more of longterm investment. you'll always be able to play any fighter on the PC and 360 with it.

If you don't like it, you should always be able to sell it and not lose a lot of money because if shipping is as much as you say it will be a desired item in your neck of the woods.

the keyboard layout is actually great for shotos. i only play Ryu and i can do most of his combos and links with it.

thanks for the pad offer but i already own a Sega Saturn USB pad and it's just collecting dust because i got so used to the keyboard. on pads, i can only play one side consistently, it's not like that on keyboard

it's not about saving. i have the money for the TE even with the ridiculous shipping costs that make it twice as much. the HRAP3s are a little cheaper. i'm just wondering if the TE's are that much better as to warrant the price i have to pay.

I'll be majoring Guy, Zangief, DJ in Super and I'm plesed to say they're all radically different to play as and collectiely pretty strong, so hopefully I won't have the matchup related prblems I have in SF4 as I 'm only using Zangief..

Super Street Fighter 4 - New Characters Trailer (Cody, Guy, Adon, T.Hawk, DeeJay, Juri) - this is godlike!

on a side note.. SF4 has the most participants at DreamHack (http://esports.dreamhack.se/tournaments/view/58 - 87 confirmed + 18 pending)

only to prove how fantastic this year was for Street Fighter 4 (prolly the last old school competitive series with a good mainstream buzz and a great international scene and audience).

most events were held by the community in a grass roots fashion.. while "serious" eSports tournaments stayed away from the game for unknown/dumb reasons (maybe ignorance/prejudice towards this game and genre? i'm glad they ignored the whole thing).

community organized events had hundreds of players for SF4 at each regional event (even in those few held in Europe), all culminating with Evo 2009 having 1024 players only for SF4.

also Koreans seem to embrace the game in their pro-gaming shows with insane production value.

there have been streams with high level play almost each weekend.. and 10 000+ matches uploaded on YouTube

i think i'll soon compile a list of videos from all major events and edit the first post.

..and to top it all, Capcom acknowledges all this and only helps to sustain this great resurgence with competitive oriented features that 99.99% of today's games lack (online replay database, replay recording, spectating, team battles and online tournament features) in their upcoming revision.

i'm so hyped! :D

The last round was really intense at the end. I watched the game live at Dreamarena. Gootecks was standing behind the players because he was commentating the finals.

It was really surprising too see Yagami finishing 3rd considering he haven't won any DH events before (with only swedish players). This was the 4th SF4 tournament hosted at DH.

Yagami, Louie (the quake 3 player), Cyrox and Skatan Milla (former CGS pro and DOA4 WCG silvermedalist) have dominated the past DH events. Endy usually finish 5-8, and he uploads many videos from his online sessions.

Skatan Milla reached the semis of the winners bracket but then lost to Yagami and Gootecks.

this weekend WCG will host a SF4 tournament.. virtually all 128 spots are taken: http://qualify.us.wcg.com/?page=stem&view...entid=2271

funny how these "esports" organizations have been sleeping on Street Fighter and now they're late to the show..

never understood why WCG always insisted on Virtua Fighter in their main lineup, even this year when SF4 stomped on everything in player numbers and target audience, even on competitive titles from other genres (Evo SF4 had 1000+ players registered and a live stream audience with a peak of 24,000 viewers)..

VF5 while a very technical fighter it's incredibly boring to watch, doesn't have the same mainstream appeal and great scene behind it like SF4 (with international rivalries and memorable fights)

i'll expand this rant in a season summary i plan to write.

Nagoya Street Battle 11 and general Blanka madness!

Nishikin (Blanka) vs Daigo (Ryu) - great match with an incredible opening round. it's hard to remain constant versus Daigo when he adapts so well and pulls out unbelievable, never seen before counters (like down+HP to beat Vertical Ball.. FUCK!)

Kok (Sagat) vs Saikyo (Blanka) - what we call a classic "Thank you for playing. Presented by Capcom" moment. Sagat can punish Blanka's EX Vertical Ball with kara Tiger Uppercut FADC Ultra. it's no easy feat, but in high level play Blanka is fucked. let's hope Capcom is taking notes!

Kok (Sagat) vs Eita (Akuma) - total mindfuck! Sagat is afraid even to flinch.
Chari (Blanka) vs Eita (Akuma) - mindfuck reversal!
Sabokinoko (Zangief) vs Fabi-O (Rufus) - this round is definition of clutch

man, it's been a full year for Street Fighter 4! the ongoing flow of little and big moments never seized to amaze me.
..and when you think about it, the hype will reset in March with Super SF4! although partially since the game wasn't announced for Japanese arcades and that's where EVERY aspect of the game unfolds.

Yeah that was sweet, and that gief player just inspired me to go into ultra from a dash.

I don't know if I still have that execution in me, but it would help so much. 720 x3 punch in a few frames is a lot to ask with my regime.

I dunno hand on heart I don't like SF4 that much, so many of the games seem, like this, almost stalemate towardwards the end with certain matchups.

I seldom if ever recall witnessing scuh stand off in Super Turbo, which for me is still king, but it feeels jerky now after playing sf4 so I can't play it :(

I still get so frustrated with how my opponets super builds up, prolly cos i only use guile and gief. I have to work hard for my wins (getting in and using them is hard work), I can take off 40% damage using hard work, but which time all they need to do is land one super (which the game awarded them for failing) and its almost even again. I can't get onboard with that sort of handout. It just draws the gap between skill levels, which is ok if you're using it to beat better people, but annoying when its the other way around and you know you're losing a good few games purely because the game is baby sitting the opponent it kinda makes me feel cheated for putting in the hard work in the early days.

Rose is all over Viper, as a result the game rewards Viper with an ultra for damage received after losing half her life with a few seconds of the round, Viper responds with a special move and bolts on the ultra at the end.

So for the sake of landing one special move (and one easy ultra before opponent recovered) Viper is now in a better position health wise. Regardless of level of skill rose to take that damage off and how many risks she took.

Viper lands special move and executed the free ultra she had.

The game has just put her right back in the game for getting her ass handed at the start. Its just broken mechanics.
