only because of the lack of help. q4 modding can be very much fun, if you have a good team working together on it.
but there are not enough ppl that want to help in the q4 community..

there are ppl who wants to help but many of them r not able to help because they are unable to design / programming etc :(

well then learn something to help, mapping, modeling, sounds or graphics..

learning by doing. thats what worked out for me...

heh yeah, morbyte is probably the best example.. he had no idea of menu scripting before starting at gtr, but he learned it and made an impressive menu for gtr (now he just needs to finish it :P).

but for example me : I've got no time - cuz if I started learning programming scripting etc while school I would fail sk00l for sure : /

I agree. I didn't know a lick of C or C++ before starting on Q4F, here it is just a year later and my experience has earned me a job in the gaming industry.

did you have any programming experience prior to that?

It actually isn't that hard to mod Quake 4. In fact with some quality help it is quite enjoyable. We were able to produce Delta CTF in under 6 months time. There is a lot of untapped talent out there, and we had to turn a way a few modders with our project after we reached 18 active team members.

Time is a valuable resource and making the mod team feel what they are doing is worth their time is the key.

If it works with Linux I'm going to host a server for it temporarily

it doesnt shipt with a linux build, but I'll try to create one, as the source is available, it should be no problem.

F*cking hell :/ I've been through them all (except TFC): TF, Q3F, ETF, and I was really looking forward to Q4F. I really really hope you guys find the inspiration / help / talent / whatever is missing to resume the project!

yes, but q4f has a real cool own ambientlight:

it looks like it has cheap shadows, but still has impressive performance.
