Strange I tuned in for the Toogood vs R2k and the Nom vs Jabb0r and it was fine. The event is only 170 miles away though.

Maybe you should shut down you torrents or whatever. Cause it only lagged twice in one hour on my end and Germany isn't that close by.

First of all I didn't run torrents while watching the buffering from TSN. Second, I tried it when people where watching (during a CS match). Third, I can easily watch Baseball while running torrents at 80kB/s down and 30kB/s up without any buffering at all.

I'm sitting in Germany which shouldn't be that much closer and I don't encounter buffering.
So if the problem is neither with TSN, cause the stream can work well. Nor with you as you just pointed out. Then maybe you should look into the routing of your isp or something like that. But you can hardly blame TSN for that.

Afaik MLB sends from the US, which should be even worse than sending from the UK. Also if you would bother to read other posts, you would see peole from the UK who've had problems with the stream as well. My guess is you watched when almost noone else was watching. The stream works as long as very few peole are watching TSN, however TSN can't handle heavy loads. Has been the same story every time there's an event.

I watched Fatal1ty-draven, then Nomadic-Lost Cause, then forever - 2gd and Toxic-Hunter. Should be pretty busy then.
And yes MLB should send from the us, so what. If they use a different routing.

Point is simply: If MLB can transmit to norway without any problems, then so should TSN (if they made an effort).

Not sure how busy it is during the quake 4 matches, afaik most people follow the CS matches.

Next time somebody mentions a video stream in a news post: please add that people should set their buffer to 60 seconds ,clean their machines from spyware etc. It has been running flawlessly for me.
Now I know that doesn't always solve the problem and that there are times when you can't do anything about it but from my experience on irc etc i know that many of the people flaming about laggy streams don't even know how to set buffertime higher or haven't tried that.
I'm pretty sure that i would have lags if i had my buffer set to 3 seconds.

my buffer has been set to 60secs like for ever... and tsn lags :/ although when i tried to watch earlier it was way too dark to see anything anyways

well, i buffer >5MB and it starts lagging (unwatchable) after those prebuffered content has played.
going now for 20MB, at least I'll get 3-4mins lagfree watching but i'll be missing half the game due to prebuffering :)

still, i wonder why yours is working great :s

yeah i know that it won't always help. have you checked for spyware? or maybe you've got a prog running that has a lot of accecs on your hard drive? if not you're probably just unlucky ,wrong isp ,bad routing or smth.

i use a sane OS hence probabilty for spyware is at a minimum ;) hope it's getting better when q4 returns (after wc3)

I think if you record the streams then upload after the event has finished then they're ok with it.

At the end of the day it only benefits TSN, their sponsors and the fans.

what is odd is i try and watch almost any buffered video on my profile and it won't work to save its life...but i switch windows profile to my wife's acct and it works perfect. =\

When I use VLC the stream has awesome imagequality, but locks up from time to time. The image locks for a few seconds, but the sound still works. Nothing big really but can be disturbing when you're watching something exciting.

When I use WMP it works great all the time, no lag, no buffer, no lockups, but the imagequality is not as good as when I use VLC.

I use a 100/100Mbit connection from Labs2 in Sweden.

gameplay is a matter of preference, but all the other stuff that surrounds the games and competition are what's really important. and Q3 has the best platform for broadcasting and competetive play, as of right now.

you could see q3 in leagues as an investment for securing a future for q4 as a competetive game. the jump from q3 to q4 won't be big, when q4 is ready.

Might have/probably has some thruth in it, then again, I read in many interviews with 'pros' that they're quiting Q4 after this or that tournament and will see what happens.
It's sad that maybe one of the only communities which enjoy their games are mmorpg players. The rest seems to be playing whatever game has money behind it (not talking about the pros only, competitive yet more casual players do this aswell). It's blasphemy to say you like Q3 over Q4 but turning to Q3 you get more disussions about vq3 -cpm and some more random crap. Watch out if you like CS:S better than CS 1.6, 'cause no big tournaments use it, so it must be a bad game.

I watched quite a few games of 1.3 at Games Convention and I still haven't fucking realised why the hell do I prefer to watch my 145th DM6 game over the last 10 days* to a Quake 4 demo. Must he something wrong with me.

perhaps because it's been the game for six years and the quake community is probably best known for absolutely DESPISING change.

you still have players that never made the change from q1 to q2, because q1 was perfect. you had people at the beginning of q3 that swore they wouldnt change over to q3 because q2 was the best it would ever get. now you have q3 fans that have loved their game (and dm6, ztn, etc) for the past six years and they refuse to think anything can be better.

it's pretty easy to figure out why you would rather see dm6 played 10x. i know q4 (and enjoy it), so of course i would rather see a monsoon demo of two top players than watching NOTHING NEW happen in dm6 for the billionth time.

so the only possible reason i can see for you enjoying watching those dm6 demos so much is because of the map. obviously you arent complaining about bugs because you are not playing, it's pretty easy to see that q4 movement is faster (especially with crouchslide) so you cant complain about game speed, netcode isnt effecting you, so i'll can infer is that you dont find the q4 maps appealing.

How about I don't think that I like the strength of the rail and lg? And yes, I don't really enjoy the maps either.

Q4 has dm6 too! :P

Because q3 is more fun and has been tweaked throughtout 7 years or so making it an almost flawless platform for competitive gameplay and dm6 believe it or not is one of the most balanced maps overall.

Size is not big nor small, the map is very good for 1v1 with the ability to have a nice comeback almost anytime (lexer vs chao), it is a good map for tdm as well and average players know the map and like it for playing any mod and mode such as freezetag, clan arena, instagib or even excessive.

So yeah, it is my favorite map too and watching experienced players such as cooller and zero4 battle it out there is so exciting that I prefer going back to ligarena's ftp to download q3 demos from past ESWCs than bother in downloding q4 demos in horrible maps with random players without personality in a boring game. Should I also mention that you have to download random files that the server had at the time the demo was recorded in order to watch the demo... eww.

Fortunately as some have said, there are tournaments for q4 and q3, spectators and proplayers can choose which to follow, I personally can't wait for some q3 action :) .

It did not work me via Q4max menu. Doesn't matter force media only or force all paks are enabled. (there are not any error messages)

Q4replay could replay the same demos despite of it shows I missing 2 files (maps) (with demo enforcefs 1)

ugh - look at the message you get from the demo menu.
Access violation on demo playback : this reeks of "autoexec.cfg with evil shit in it". Get rid of that file.

try renaming it to something like "playme.netdemo" and then run it... I think quake4 has a problem with the '(' and ')'-characters.

That'd give another error than "not a netdemo", something about wrong playnetdemo command syntax.
Besides, this is not a problem when going through our demo menu, which seems to be what he's doing (this is a message we show in a popup when playing from it).

Then get the zips ;) or download again until it's not corrupted.
The file is fine here, it is likely that your download was corrupted (or worse - that you have screwy sectors on your HD).

this is strange...all other demos from all other tours are playable, just downloaded demos from WSVG Intelsummer cup "again" and they are playable...I have downloaded both ziped and unziped demos from this tour and the are all unplayable...well forget it...never mind.
