What do you know about Nexuiz gameplay? Not much it seems. And the physics is very diffrent in Nexuiz 2.0.

Don't worry about them dude, they couldnt iterate out of a for loop if they tried, much less program a game.

If you like it, great, if you don't, then delete it. Its free and it didnt cost you anything but 10 minutes of your time.

Nexuiz might be well coded and all, but it's still shit when it comes to gameplay. I just tested it and the physics still feel laggy (like I had a 500 ms ping when the server browser tells me 50), it still lacks any sort of movement ability besides running around and jumping.
No strafe, no circle, no dodge jump, no dash, no wall jump, no particular innovation unless it's hidden, maybe some sort of ramp jump although it's hard to tell with those uncontrollable physics.
And about the weapons, wow. Even Unreal Tournament weapons look like piece of design genius compared to that. =)

It's good that people use some of their spare time to produce something free and all, probably it's well-coded, etc ; but when the design is so poor and you hardly have fun at all playing that game, what's the point in it ?
They could at the very least use the help of someone who has a clue about gameplay and ask for advice, so that all their (respectable) efforts aren't wasted like that.

I guess that's what you do with a 5 yo boy when he delivers an ugly meaningless drawing and you tell him it's great, adult people should accept that releasing something to the public means they will be judged. And mind you I don't think I'm beeing too harsh with them when I say they've made respectable efforts to release this free game, but the result is not really enjoyable.
And it's especially bound to happen when nothing's improved since 1.0, at least when it comes to playability, which already was everyone's main concern after that first release I think.

Of course not (though the first sentence was true for Q4, and for half the posters on this site the second one was too :P).

After mucking about with Nexiuz for an hour or so, it's actually FAR better than I expected. (disclaimer being that I haven't played it online).

The engine is MORE capable than Q4, and when scaled down to Q4 levels performs better even while running bots as well.

It may well suck online, and yeah, I'm certainly not saying the gameplay doesn't need a LOT of work, but frankly there have been worse games released commerically that people here have given head.

It's certainly not in the same class as CPMA or even VQ3 as far as the gameplay goes, and equally behind as far as OSP/CPMA features go, but then so is EVERYTHING. Do you REMEMBER how unplayable Q4 was, and how mediocre Q3 was, before we came along?

It doesn't have Steed-quality models, or swelt-quality maps, but what it does have is enough to get started.

And I'd feel bad about all the bashing, but it was pretty much self-inflicted with the first release that was posted on ESR.... it was blatantly unfinished with missing graphics and the like. First impressions are everything and nexuiz threw their's away.

Yeah - the first release was AWFUL. I'd forgotten about that (or "suppressed it like the painful memory it was", if you prefer :P).

Given the gap between the two versions though, at this rate Nexuiz 3.5 will be the Greatest Game Evah. :P

The weapons are damn nice though.
I hate the physics, the gameplay and well...the game overall, but I have to admit, the weapons are very nice. They've done a great job with those.

Hopefully they manage to make it better for the next release... this was a huge step forward and I wouldn't be surprised if they actually could make it semiplayable in the next version. I'm not counting too much on the engine tho.

It depends, imo laser, sg and mg suck ass :P And crytek would get my vote for top10 most crappy weapons in fpp history. Then we got Nex which looks cool, but basicaly its just railgun with fancy beam. RL got the kick, but on the other side it feels just like graphicaly tweaked Q1 RL with stronger splash, and the Hagar's idea of rapid fire weaker RL isnt anything new either. Mortar is interesing due to primary fire which I found easier to direct hit than RL, even when midair.
What is left is Electro which is somewhat Shock (ASMD) idea of combo spinoff. Well since secondary work little more like Bio, I wont take away orginality from it. Additionaly it looks extremaly good. The only misfire is that its too slow for infights, and since it can be detonated by any weapon not only its primary, then it it loses lots of its tactical/spam potential.

BTW you can strafejump and you have aircontroll in nexuiz and i think the weapons are a bit fresher as in warsow or q4, but you should understand the weapons, second fire mode and the different gameplay (have you realized you can always pickup health?). When it cames to a battle between q4/warsow/nexiuz, than i think is nexiuz the freshest game and not simply a quake or cpma clone with always the same weapon selection and item pickup.

Just because I have that War§ow flag doesn't mean I'm bashing Nexuiz in favor of War§ow.

Instead I'm pretty certain such a flamewar wouldn't benefit War§ow at all. Way to inspire moronic attitudes such as yours.

I'm just criticizing Nexuiz cause it's the second time I try it, and the second time it's unplayable and that the game design looks so poor. It's just my personal (valuable I think) opinion, and I give it considering what the developpers of Nexuiz intend to do with that game.

You presented your option thats right. It was like:
- I do not like the weapons. Well thats taste, i like them. Great point. There are many things though that i do not like and i guess i will have to live with that.
- Your other big point was: It does not have xxx jump, yyy jump and zzz jump (which warsow has). Surprise: Nexuiz does not want to copy warsow :). Nexuiz physics are similar to those found in quake 1 however bunny hopping will not work, it might even slow you down. In Nexuiz you just have to jump to gain speed similar to Painkiller. Nexuiz does however have rampjumps and some great spots were this can be used if you know them. And it does has a lot of air control which an also be used quite nicely if you know how/where. Again i think this is just some 'I do not like it the way it is' rant.
- Your only valid point from my perspective is: Movement felt strange as if you had very high ping. I admit thats very bad but not normal. I assure you it runs very fine for me. Would love to figure out what the cause of this is!

Having the same physics as in QW when bunny hop "slows you down" is pretty pointless by the way, why advertise the game with those references to QW physics if it plays totally different (much slower ?) ? Whether it's miscommunication or cluelesness, there clearly is something wrong here. :o

You have a point though, it's a "I do not like it the way it is" post, just like it would be if we were talking about UT2Kx for instance.
The difference is that if UT2Kx has some sort of movement abilities that I don't really appreciate either, at least Epic does not claim that UT2Kx inherits its gameplay from QW or anything that might confuse people into thinking that.

Simply because i think its the closest.. Everything besides the bunnyhopping is similar, the cornering, aircontrol, movement speed, rocketjumps. Its even possible to load a config file to turn it into real quake like physics. If you compare those variables with the default values in 2.0 they are very similar. I did not choose an other game to compare the movement because those are too different. If you think quake 1 (i never said quakeworld which feels a bit different to me *) was a bad example then next time i'll just tell people to try it :) .. Well i think its still a better idea to compare it with something and tell the difference then tell people to try it ..:)

in any case one thing could settle that discussion for good : instead of that poor youtube video, why don't you Nexuiz devs and fans get a few decent players to showcase Nexuiz's gameplay, movements, fights, etc, and provide a few demos or even a video from it ?
Would be much more appealing to everyone I guess than that sucky clip and a few forum posts that absolutely don't match our impressions when we try it.

I experienced absolutely no "feeling" with the game. Its slow, you can move properly, no chance of strafejumping or something like it, and you can barely see the enemy.

yes CSDM, its very popular these days; spawn, choose guns, shoot, die, respawn. its basicly CS without rounds, replaced by FFA teamdeathmatch, its quite fun tbh, surprised it took so long to arrive

haha, probably gives back the old CS beta 4 and older feeling where guns stayed on the ground between rounds and after a few rounds basically each start of a round was a run for the gun story. =)

No feeling? Nexuiz is very fast, just press forward and jump jump jump in a straight line. And when turning around corners you release the forward button and strafe/turn in that direction. The Nexuiz 2.0 physics is simular to Quakeworld.

Right while the aircontrol is very simliar to that in quake(1/world), gaining speed is as simple as jumping in a stright line. Funny stuff like strafejumps might even slow you down at times. One can use the new aircontrol for tight turns (cornering) while keeping the speed..

It looks awful and what's more it's slow and boring. Movement? OMG there is no real movement... what's the point of adding jump key when u can't jump at the direction u want :/ ? There is no doublejumps or even speedjumps. That makes moving even more annoying than i thought at the beggining. Useless weponary without any potential. Nothing less, nothing more. And the main problem - there is no fullbrights. Skins are almost invisible. Not worth of downloading.

I've played half an hour now and there are definitely ways to gain speed, something similar to bunnyhopping, and yes, it works!

Just tried it and... its chaotic, and after 5 minutes of playing it there comes boredom.

Actualy I felt something from Q1 from it, but thats probably only cause of engine. Anyway its one of the worst fpp games I have ever played. Somewhere between Doom3 and Hired Team Trial (tho developers of HTT are on black list for using oryginal amiga Hired Team title).

Definitly not worth downloading even if its for free.

Singleplayer wise Doom3 was fine, but little boring. Just as lets say Quake 4. There was a lot of better singleplayer fpps.

But as we are on ESports Reality then we shouldnt care much about single in such disscusions. Especialy when comparing something to multiplayer game.

Yes, this "Campaign" is just multiplayer maps with bots in certain order. First two are normal dm, third one is dm rocket launcher only, fourth is tdm, the fifth looked something like UT's Domination mode, and... and I got bored so I turned it off ;)

After I played it little more :P

Some of the maps are quite good architecture wise. Little faster jumping, and air control give a little of movement... but its still not enough cause its easy, boring, flat, and boring :P Some of the maps looks like they would only wait for some vertical moves. Tho I can say I really liked extremaly long and fast rocket jump, which feels nice.

Well even as there are some good points (rocket jump, some map archtek)m its still booooring. DM is too chaotic to be any entertaiment. TDM after some tweaks could be even interesing when played in real teams (not mixes). 1on1... its like painkiller without its movement, stakes and dm-sacred ;) Ah yes there was also some insta mode which surprised me cause I wasnt bored after 5minutes of playing it (which is impossible in other games, especialy UT), but well since it was just simple insta after all I got bored later anyway.

The more time I spend with it, the more game feels just like Q1 mod with some spinoffs. It may be fine with some people, but its definitly too simple game for me, and so I got bored with it really fast.

ps. with some further real esports oriented tweaks it could be better than doom3 for sure ;)

I disagree that these projects are waste of time.
I'm not sure of the licensing agreement for Nexuiz, but it would make a good starting point for programmers to mod into a pure gameplay fps such as cpma etc. (being a free game and all).

There is movement.

Instead of moving the mouse like in Warsow,

you have to use the strafe keys to turn corners, in mid air, which makes it a bit harder to turn, and you cannot turn as fast, but it's there and it isnt been used.


The real problem is the fact that most maps are to small to use it, and on FFA the maps are to small, anymore then 6 normally and it becomes a spam fest.


the maps are only really orientated for 1v1 and 2v2 play at the max, except for perhaps DM16-SilverCity.


if the maps were made a lot bigger, and the corners not as sharp the movement would be more fluent and easier to use, as well as being able to play FFA games...

There seem to be a lot of ego driven people around here. They try some game and the second they do not like it its utter bullshit, has no gameplay or the worst graphics ever. How about being realistic and fair for two seconds and just say 'hey this game does not fit my needs, i do not like the gamplay because of XXX, i do not like the graphics because of XXX but its free so everyone should give a shit about what i am saying and try this game themself maybe they will like it anyway'
To all those people i would like to say i just love this game for its fastpaced gameplay (once you learned how to do this. This is an different game then what you have played so far afterall!), its variety of available mode modes, its scalability and yeah the whole game including gamecontent being GPL. So i invite everyone that is not yet spoiled by all this bullshit in the comments to just try the game and find out if YOU like it of not. If not fine, there are lots of other games to play but just realize its not the game at fault for not being like you would have it to be. :)

I agree, played some and watched some games today (<3 kojn), and this game actually surpised me (I played an earlier release before which I didn't like at all); the game is more technical then I thought, saw some impressive movement and mapcontrol today.

guess it's just not my type of game, the movement is a bit too different for me, and the general gameplay doesn't really appeal to me, I think there are some balance and technical gameplay mistakes too, but it's not a bad game for sure :).

Had to do some tweaks too, but visibility is greatly improved with tweaking the explosions (can make em look quite clean) upping contrast and brightness in rediculous ammounts, low detail, removing viewbob/roll. Just need brightkins/hitsounds and forcemodel/beefier models :P.

As mentioned in some other post there are votable serverside bright skins/models. And there is a hitsound. It should actually be pretty easy to hear. Maybe i'm spoiled by playing this game since 1.0 :)

this game runs as fluent as quake4 on low settings, it's very dark on all maps, and the physics is just wrong, not to talk about how crappy the weapons are

conclusion:
unlike warsow which i played for 3 hours in a row on the first time, i spent about 10 minutes playing nexuiz, wondering why i'm wasting my time with this game

Maybe you should learn to use the gamma controls in a game to make it more bright if its too dark for you and lower off of the effects to make it run faster..
And i think the rest of your comment just shows my point in the previous post!

I had a p4 1.8Ghz, 512rimm and a r9800pro running it fluently q3 style... Try to tweak some more and you might wanna show a little dedication when trying to get it run to your manners, it wont run by itself you know :)

the "warsow > nexuiz"-crap isnt worth anything when not getting into detail about what REALLY bothering you, so that developers can do something about.

check basewsw/cfgs for some example cfgs of the wsw team.

Hours of tweaking?? Just go to the options/effects menu and turn most of them off. OpenGL Shaders 2.0 might be ok when 'on'
Or you could have taken a look at the FAQ.html and found out that there are some preconfigured config files for just things like this.

So how about asking for help and/or at least reporting this to the official forum? I suppose you can imagine people would like to improve those things. But just bitching around in some forum will not help. In case you do please include more info about your system and tell more then just 'its too slow'. Tell some mechanic 'my car does not start' on the phone, he will likely just hang up on you..
For most people 2.0 runs much faster then older versions so it takes some time and information to figure out whats wrong on some systems.

how about the fact that i didn't need to ask any help for wsw? no ppl to talk to, no sites to read, no irc spams, or configs i have to ask from others, NO TIME TO WASTE, and i'm not a progamer, so yes sometimes all of that IS a timewaste when you have RL stuff that's priority

exec low.cfg and then vid_restart is all you have to do if you want more fps.

give it a chance ... why should the developers work on the "problems" if no one playes it. i mean -> it was a lot of work .. perhaps its not as fine as comerical software. than fine. don`t play it and do not wonder why you have allways to buy a game just to play it.

if you want a good game -> play it / give response to the developers / perhaps get up youre ass and help them.

I like it. The weapons are original, the movement is fast (if you know how, feels a bit indirect at first) and it's fun.

Nexuiz needs less confusing sound and brightskins.

There are serverside bright skins.. One can vote to de/activate them.
On the other hand i think the nexuiz sounds are better then the warsow sounds. I have problems making out the direction of sounds in warsow very often while the (if your hardware supports it) 7.1 surround sound in nexuiz makes this very easy. Though i must admit i have a lot more experience with playing nexuiz then warsow :)

About the brightskins, didn't know (anyway you should let people enable them on any server).
I didn't say the wsw sound was better. Most people play with headsets (=stereo, in most cases) so that's what matters. Tbh I dislike the stereo sound in both games.

Uhm another thing, can you only picmip the map? I'm used to picmip 10 but in Nexuiz the players and some items just go invisible => bad.

Yeah kro said he likes warsow more then nexuiz.. Fine he has an option and voices it. But different to many people here he did not trash talk the 'weaker' game. I'm fine with people saying what they (dis)like about a game and kro is one of them and i respect him for doing so.

However what i do not like are people that try a game for five minutes and then scream into the world 'its bullshit, do not download it' just because they do not like a game. Every game is different and everyone likes different things. Just admit you do not like it and name reasons. Thats fine. Trash talking is not!
