I don't play often but I've been around for awhile, 56kbps.

I think this is my first time posting to esreality but I follow around on it sometimes. After watching my twitter feed and facebook page blow up about resentment towards the new patch for quakelive, I had to find out why.

After reading the news I felt like this was actually a good move in the direction of Quakelive being more than what it was. Handing off power to the community in an open source setting is the way it was meant to be from the beginning if I remember right.

In terms of esports I think this is the best thing that could happen for Quakelive. I go to quakecon every year. Year after year, the smaller byoc tournaments tend to have trouble getting servers to run correctly. They didn't really have control over the servers that were "assigned" to them. The ability for a tournament host to fully control their server is by far the best update I've seen.

But I'm curious. I have my opinions, I would like to hear others in regards to the esports scene. How do you all view the new update and direction of Quakelive? Is it good or bad for esports, or indifferent?
