I'm looking for a mouse to use at the office. My requirements are:
- Inconspicuous - I can't have blue pulsing lights on my desk.
- Good performance without drivers - I don't want to have to install drivers to get the most from the mouse.
- Good tracking on off-white desk surface - I'm not sure what you would call my desk surface. It's plasticy but textured and not very reflective.
On my short list are the Razer Deathadder Black Edition, the Razer Abyssus, the Logitech G400, and the Microsoft Comfort Mouse 6000.
I put together a table with all of the features I could think to compare. I really like the idea of perfect tracking with no prediction or acceleration. I doubt I could tell with my use, but it would be nice to be close to perfect. I would also like the mouse to be light.
I am currently using a WMO 1.1a at 500hz with the reg fix for acceleration. I'm ok with it, but there are tracking issues with my desk surface and I would like a higher dpi to make dual monitors easier to navigate. I'm also not sure how IT would feel about my tweaks - which is why I would like to get something that doesn't require any.
Is there a mouse that is missing? Is there anything else I should be considering?
Right now, I'm leaning towards the g400 for it's 1000hz default, it's (claimed) durability, and the fact that I won't need to do any modifications. I like the DA, but what will the polling rate be without drivers? Are the coating issues and the thin feet isolated issues that I shouldn't be concerned about? The Abyssus seems nice, but I will need to open it up and remove the LED. It also seems like getting a good one is a crap shoot. The comfort mouse 6000 was included because I was curious. Judging from posts here, it will be locked at 125hz which seems like a deal breaker. I was hoping MS would have another winner and I could get out cheap.
