I doubt I will buy blu-ray discs, it's a bit expensive and not needed when you can download HD content.

final fantasy is not exclusive

if thats your fear then id say forget the console. i had the same fear but got a ps3. since ive got it i had:
NFS:shift (with the console -- never played besides at the sellers house)
GTA4 -- played for less than 1 hour despite the fact i used to love GTA3 & lower...
MGS4 -- never played despite it being 1 of my earliest buys
uncharted -- played it quite a bit at first but lost interest & havent touched it since
demons souls -- played it once (and many say its the best console game in recent years)
SSF4 -- played like 50 games...lost interest after it not doing the moves despite me swearing to hit the proper keys
COD MW2 -- 10 year olds calling me shit on mic...now i only play it once a week with guys from work after losing a bet
uncharted 2 -- arrived like 2 weeks ago...still in the amazon packaging

the fact is that i have mountains of american & japanese tv to watch & when i want to game i have QL & UT2004...no real need to go to console. i also have the added annoyance of no wireless so i have to unplug my pcs net to play it online.

if you fight your assumptions and insist to get a console then get a ps3...the online play is free so even if you dont make it regularly its not costing you like xbox's monthly fee. ps3 has the better exclusives and it isnt landlocked so you can order games from china/japan (like i did with demons souls)

i hear you dude but the flash backs to other games and memories as it tried to make sense of the overly complicated story made it all worth it. mgs2 well and truly fucked all the story up but i am sure it does make sense if you look long enough... maybe lol

I spent a weekend when my flatmate was away somewhere and just finished in 2 or 3 days. Like a huge interactive film at times. It gets better tho

The memory of snake going back to shadow moses complete with ps1 graphics was awesome.

I am a die hard mgs fan tho and i understand if people are put off by the overly long cut scenes. I of course loved them

ive not really played mgs 2 or 3 much, hardly at all infact and from what i gather to follow the story you do need to.

yeah ive just downloaded and put peace walker onto my psp as well so will give that a go soon. looks amazing and all reviews say so too. i played the demo and it was very nice

The only reason to go 360 over PS3 is if you really like halo and gears (ie your like 15), or plan on playing online a lot.
PS3 has a deeper range of exclusives both now and in the future, can play blu-rays (if you care), can play 3D (if it takes off in the future) and is pretty much the same price (although that 360 bundle is pretty sweet, guess they are just off loading the old model now).

Dird sounds like he just can't be motivated to play, I did have this problem but it's been ok since i've had my PS3 connected to my pc monitor. If you don't go overboard on games that you'll probably never play, it's not that expensive in the long run anyway. I'd check to see what games interest you before buying anything so you know there's stuff you'd try.

For records, I did eventually use the xbox a bit, mostly for the arcade games, hardly played any AAA games, apart from like, batman I think. I sold it after 3 years. I only play PC games now and use a steam link for playing on the tv.

You should consider getting a more modern console like the PS4 or Xbox One. Apparently the PS4 has more exclusives so I'd go with that.

I will choose PS3 as well but a PS4 is advisable as it is equip with more features.
